Teatro - Southbank
A fresh seasonal produce driven menu inspires our ever-changing Mediterranean cuisine with plenty of gluten free options. The theatre itself remains constant, but the food and the menu are constantly evolving. Why not enjoy the stunning views of the Yarra river whilst indulging in some cheese & dessert on Southbank Promenade.
We sat outside on a balmy afternoon and had an early pre theatre dinner. All the dishes were great ....both taste and presentation. The jamon was a generous portion served with a ring of warm homemade crusty bread....heaven.
The waitress was friendly, prompt and very helpful.
I will definitely go back!!
Excellent prompt service.
We were there for a pre-theatre meal and were a bit worried we might have to wait but didn't have to wait long at all. There is a 'happy hour' $7 drink offer and the house wines offered were fine. Friendly and responsive staff. A bit pricey but the location is very central (great for the art centre) and you can have views over the river if you sit outside.
Delicious food, attentive but bot intrusive service, a great place for a business lunch, we dined inside and had a peaceful friendly experience. Highly re c commend their lunch special. They are ample portion sizes, well cooked and be beautifully prepared.
Impossible to find. Once we found it, we sat, we read, we left. It's a loud, upscale pizza place. Check the menu before booking.
We loved the great pizzas and informal, friendly and efficient service. Well done guys & gals.
Terrific service, excellent meals. We weren’t told we needed to order sides with the meat dishes. Brilliant Paella 🥘
Service, ambiance and food was generally very good. Barramundi dish was the let down, as it was very salty.
The food was amazing and the staff were very friendly. Didn't keep us waiting and was very prompt with service. Definitely will be going back.
We’ve dined at Teatro several times. I’m a regular visitor to Spain & love the Spanish style of food. Teatro is right up there with the best restaurants I’ve dined at Spain
We enjoy our ladies lunch before attending The Australian Ballet, it's become a bit of a tradition. Whilst we liked the new menu we were disappointed to see that the "Potato" Pizza had been removed from it. That was one of our favourite menu items, please consider bringing it back.
すごく混んでいて なかなか席に案内して貰えなかった。 注文も時間が掛かりました。20:00には空いたけど 早く出て行って欲しいようで 不快でした。
We love dining here, so much so this was the second visit this week. This visit was to bring some interstate corporate clients to dine with us. They loved it! the food was delicious and allowed everyone to eat according to their preference, while experiencing something new. The music was turned up louder as the place filled up, making it harder to hear, but I suppose that is the atmosphere that they are trying to create. But the food was still amazing.
We felt the food was of nice quality but service we received could have been better as we hailed a few wait staff several times and ate dessert with plates and boards from mains not cleared.
We have gone to Teatro for years and it was a Spanish tapas restaurant but it appears it has been bought by Chinese and the menu has changed since we were here - which was only a couple of months ago. It bears no resemblance to what it once was and we won't be returning. I had lamb shoulder which was as tough as 2 tooth (old sheep) and a friend asked for gluten free and we were given a menu for this but it didn't seem to be exact. Our dips were to come with normal and gf bread but she got some wilted celery which had to be returned to have their ends chopped off. as they were dirty and wilting! they had no gf bread. Tapas seems to have gone except for a few offerings at the beginning of each main meat dish on the menu. We felt beans as a side at $17 was vastly overpriced.
We ate at Teatro early before thw opera. The food was very good. The service was a little slower than it usually is - we go there often pre-concert, and had allowed plenty of time for tapas and wine. Obviously we don’t like it if we have a long wait or have to rush eating. All good in the end so will go back.
The paella was delicious and the waitress was so friendly and even lent her sunnies to my friend because it was really sunny and glaring outside. Definitely recommend to anyone.
Lovely food and great service. Will definitely be returning!
i love eating here, the location is great, staff professional and friendly, food selection is good. however it is noisy! perhaps choosing a different table location might help and avoiding Friday nights just after work. $14 too for a glass of Prosecco (it was very enjoyable) is a bit steep.
Great vibe, tasty, well prepared food, friendly staff. We will return.
Excellent food and service always. Love the options available. Staff were lovely and we were provided high quality food quickly. The only negative thing I would say is that the young man who seemed to be managing the restaurant (from England?) was overly micromanaging his staff and it was obvious that he was. They were all doing the right thing but he was on to anything he thought might not have been done or not done properly. The staff were excellent even with his overmanagement of their work.
worst meal experience in melbourne. ever. worst meal experience in melbourne. ever.
Great place for a quick dinner before a show, service staff were friendly too.
We have taken many friends to this venue and everyone has always been impressed with the quality and taste of the food. Easy to share and if pre theatre dining it is surprisingly quick.
If you're looking for a quick/convenient meal before catching a show at Hamer Hall, Teatro, located underneath the venue, will deliver a satisfying Italian feed with ample time for you to see the curtain go up.
A guest was unable to eat onion and garlic so the chef produced two tasty variations on menu pizzas for us. Very impressed!
Lovely staff, enjoyable location, soggy tasteless pizza, sloppy arancinis. Other tables' food looked as bad.
Lovely experience! Soft music so you’re able to talk. Attentive staff and great food and drinks.
Great to pop in pre theatre and have fantastic paella!
Reserved a standard table for two well in advance. Seated us at the bar without asking if that was okay. It wasn't. They ignored us repeatedly when trying to order. Finally ordered and the food came out fast enough, but $28 for a pizza with a sprinkling of lamb is laughable. The kale and beans were crisp and fresh and flavourful and slathered in oil for no good reason. The highlight of the meal was the wine, which was simply adequate. Add to that a very noisy room and a constant parade of people walking behind us heading to the bathroom, results in no good reason to go back.
I have been to Teatro 3 other times and enjoyed it but this was my best experience - great food even though one of my faves (zucchini flowers) was not on the menu. Staff were great, friendly and good service.
Can't wait to go again!
Brilliant food although menu is smaller than it used to be. Plenty of choice for the shared plates though
Beer on tap was not available. Desert Chirros were not available. Selected wine took ages to get to the table. service was fair to poor with a few poor staff running around.
Pleasant decor but noisy due to the size and closeness of tables. Good service relatively unobtrusive. I would go again but not on a Saturday evening.
Great service. Lovely food. Wouldn’t recommend the paella
Teatro is well located for a pre-theatre or pre-concert dining. It also handy for those strolling along the Yarra bank. The service is friendly, the food fresh and enjoyable (you can see the fish and oysters waiting on ice), and the prices reasonable. My one concern is the noise level - lots of hard surfaces and biggish groups mostly shouting makes conversation between 2 people across even a small table difficult.
The diavola pizza was pretty nice and decent value at $26. The squid ink risoni with garlic, chilli, crispy squid, broad beans and lemon ($35) was less so. Far from the imagined blackened pasta with with delicate lemon and fresh broad beans topped with crispy squid tentacles, it was kind of... off-green risoni with some mixed vegetables through it, topped with fried calamari rings. I’m not sure if it is some sort of a regional delicacy, but it was a pretty strange dish and way overpriced for what it was.
Teatro is an ideal venue for a pre-theatre dinner. The staff are friendly, helpful and courteous. The menu has a good selection of food and offers glasses of wine of 150mL and 250mL volumes.
All good outside drinks took 15 minutes to come on both orders.
It’s our city go-to for quick dinner with our teenage kids. They love it! Diverse menu so something for everyone. Food is always consistent. Great drinks menu too. Service can be a bit hit & miss but we had excellent service from there this time. Great for a casual meal.
