Teatro - Southbank
A fresh seasonal produce driven menu inspires our ever-changing Mediterranean cuisine with plenty of gluten free options. The theatre itself remains constant, but the food and the menu are constantly evolving. Why not enjoy the stunning views of the Yarra river whilst indulging in some cheese & dessert on Southbank Promenade.

Good food, Pleasant staff & efficient service. So convenient for a pre- MSO performance. Will be back.
Lovely food, shared dips and a 'small plate' each and it was a filling meal.
Also shared the mandatory chips which were very, very good!
Wines were a little pricey, with the cheapest just over $60. Would have liked to see a shorter wine list with more at a lower price.
Overall a good meal.
Good food and friendly service.
We ate four different pizzas and were very pleased.
Staff were rude, food was overpriced for what it was
Service and food have fallen away in the last few months, new staff lacked the skills of previous employees.
Have been to Teatro many times, but our last visit was disappointing. Sangria was expensive and just OK, the paella very gluggy and tasted of tomato paste. Minimum seafood.
Booked 11.30am table for pre-show special birthday lunch for my 91 year old father. Arrived 15 minutes early due to train times. Told dad could not sit and wait in restaurant as they 'don't open until 11.30". He waited standing in the sun until my sister asked to speak with manager after seeing people being admitted at 11.25am. Manager said they can't admit people early as they need to be able to set up ready to provide seamless service when people do arrive. Didn't explain how 11.25 was ok. The seamless service consisted of us having to ask for water after waiting for over 5 minutes (remembering that dad had already been standing in the sun before we sat down). We ordered champagne and oysters to start. The waiter returned with the champagne and the message "No oysters". He then had to replace dad's glass which had lipstick on the top!! We ordered scallops replace the oysters, and then pizzas. The first course took ages to arrive so we didn't start eating until 12.15pm. We rushed the second course to allow time for dad to walk to the theatre, and asked for the bill. It didn't have the deduction the manager had offered. When queried she said she was giving us dessert instead. As we hadn't time for dessert even if we had wanted it, she took 10% off the bill with very bad grace. Will definitely not be eating there again as a special day out was ruined. Good service recovery is worth a fortune. Unfortunately, not available here, despite a single glass of red wine costing $21.
Service very offhand. Got bad stomach that evening so thought the fish must have been off.
Great food and fantastic setting. Service was a little slow although it was very busy, but there didn’t seem to be enough wait staff for the number of patrons. We were given glasses but no water for the entire night - lucky I had Sangria!
Dinner was amazing, great quality of produce, and great value for money. The only disappointing aspect of the night was the particular waitress allocated to our table, she was very rude, gave us a lot of attitude and was not very pleasant. Every other waiter/staff that came over to the table was lovely though! So good experience overall
As with a lot of other customers, we went for pre-theatre food. After only being able to book counter seating online, we were pleasantly surprised to be shown to a table when we arrived.
We ordered four items off the tapas menu and also a pizza to share, along with a lovely bottle of Rioja to wash it all down with
Fortunately our pizza was not put through by the waitress who took our order, as we were stuffed from the other food we received, and therefore we left full and very satisfied.
I would recommend the position but the food was average and the service not great. We arrived at 5.50 pm for a 6.00pm booking. Waited 15 minutes for a table to be free in the front section even though we were happy to sit in the back. Entrees came at a reasonable pace but the shared pizza arrived at 7.10pm. We had to ask for the bill when the pizza arrived as we were going to a show at 7.30pm. Too slow!!
Nice to have a riverside table and indulge in some people watching. I don’t think I would have enjoyed being inside .....too noisy. Dinner was very tasty
Fantastic atmosphere, delicious and varied menu that is well priced! Topped off with great service!
Great food, service and ambience. Will definitely be going there again.
Sensational food with beautiful ingredients and great flavours.
Only criticism I have is they bought our main meals while we were still eating our starters.
Another beautiful meal at Teatro Southbank. Faultless.
(It was a little noisy, but being Valentines Day,it was expected. The joint was jumpin'!)
Drink service was very slow and we needed to remind them to bring our drinks several times
I thought this was a great restaurant, but it was very busy but after 7.30 it gets a lot quieter. We were very happy with the food and service especially if you are going to an event near by. And yes I would recommend to a friend or friend.
Love the ambience of Tearto - add to that great food, good service and location, and you’ve got a place that I’m happy to return to.
Great food, very busy but good spot to go before seei something at Hamer Hall etc.
Beautiful food to share.Good wine list.Excellent place to go before a show Welcoming.
Perfect! Great food service ambience! Highly recommended and especially the Rose Sangria!
The staff were very pleasant but seemed to lack training. Some dishes were poor and some good. Some dishes were of a good size and some were tiny.A tourist restaurant. The service was very fast but all the dishes arrived at once even though we asked for them to arrive one at a time.
One waitress too keen ..We were sharing tapas but she kept coming over& wanting to remove plates etc
We were not lingering &there were heaps of empty tables but we felt we were being rushed.
Excellent service and food Staff were all on the ball even during park times.
Only downside from a senior citizens point of view was the doof doof sound track
Teatro at Southbank Melbourne has a truly international menu of well-prepared dishes. The ambience outside on the centre-city Yarra riverbank is cheerful and fluid with pedestrians and cyclists vying for space. Best to choose a table with a bit of shade in Melbourne's summer. I was personally disappointed that the restaurant no longer makes a large paella out in the open in Spanish style at weekends but the same excellent dish is available from the menu. Waiter service was attentive without being overwhelming. Prices, especially for a glass of wine, are at the higher end of moderate.
Overall, it was a satisfactory experience and a reasonable price for a popular city centre restaurant in a prime location.
Food was very average- seafood wasn’t fresh, mussels smelt off and lamb had no flavour. We sat inside because all full along the riverbank- so loud indoors I could barely hear myself.
Great woodfired pizzas and lovely to be there to see the lights of Melbourne
Enjoyed the happy hour drinks and it was our waiters first night and she was fantastic. We had a show to get to and it was no problem to have drinks and dinner within the tine we had.
The service was very attentive starting with seating. The food choices and cocktails were great. The location is superb. In our stay, we ate at Teatro three times. One of the food highlights was the seafood paella. Our vegan friend had several options.
Always get looked after, food is great and a good wine list
We went for an early dinner when they were not particularly busy. The music was too loud and the service was slow. The food was pretty meaner and overpriced for what was served. Would not go back.
Loce it. Go there a lot. Never disappointed. Thank you to Teatro and the nice people who make it all happen
Food quality very good, great service, considering how busy NY eve day was, would definitely eat there again and recommend to friends and family.
Lovely restaurant, close to Arts Centre. Great for a pre show dinner. NYE was quite busy but we had good staff looking after us with smiles.
Perfect New year eve
Geschmackvolles Menü mit tollem Weinangebot.
Freundlicher , persönlicher Service!
Great tapas and service was efficient and friendly. Table outside was great as was a nice evening. Would return and recommend.
While the food was nice it was overpriced. We sat inside, there were lots of flies every time our food came out. Lots of staff but clearly they needed to be assigned to certain tables/sections as we kept getting asked the same questions. Staff were friendly however.
Fortunate to be seated inside on a hot day, we enjoyed our meals and location very much, and easily made the show...
