Fresh, homemade authentic Italian food. NOT an "Olive Garden" type of experience. Smaller menu, fun cocktails, and open rustic atmosphere.

Awesome rustic Italian on Main St. Spicy shrimp, chicken dishes, and pizza were all great! They even handled some special requests with ease. Highly recommended!

Had their chicken wing special appetizer--very good. Had Calamarata Pasta...chicken, spinach, blush cream sauce with shell pasta--also very good.

We shared a great Ceasar Salad. Excellent Carbonera and Malacaba (sp?). I enjoyed a glass of the Tuscan Blend wine. But skip their bread and oil - never tastes fresh and it's really boring!

Taverna needs to expand their menu!! It’s extremely expensive and way to light on their options! I brought my family for a true Italian experience and there was hardly anything. It’s time you get back to some of your old menu!! Covid is here awhile, let’s go. And the prices, wow! Way over priced!

Great dinners. We had enough for leftovers.we shared the artichoke and arugula appetizer. I ordered the lemon chicken w capers on linguini. My husband had the red pasta and sausage dish. Very quiet Sunday evening. Menu shorter than usual...but appropriate for the COVID times. All staff wearing masks and keeping distance from guests. Nice to not have to cook dinner for sure!

Our waitress was rude and her service was poor. Often feeling like we were bothering her when asking for necessary things like a knife in order to cut meat.

Taverna has some of the best calamari that I have ever eaten. My fiancé and I get calamari at every restaurant we go to if it is available on the menu and the calamari at this restaurant blew everyone else out of the water. Not only were the sauces they pair the calamari with excellent but the calamari itself was so flavorful. If you are a wine drinker but are horrible at pairings like myself. I would strongly recommend asking them what they recommend because they recommended this red Italian blend that paired really well with my pasta and my fiancé’s pizza. Overall this place was amazing and my fiancé and I have found our new favorite Italian spot.

My husband and I went in for dinner on a Thursday evening. We were able to make our reservation on OpenTable quickly and easily. Our server was prompt and very pleasant. She repeated back to us everything we ordered, so there were no mistakes. We were checked on as needed by our server and the manager. We were given fresh silverware, plates and napkins with each course we ordered! We went heavy on the appetizers because we couldn't narrow down from the great choices. We got the veal meatballs, whipped sweet ricotta, truffle garlic bread and the fried calamari. I would go back every week and order the same thing! We shared the special for the evening, which was a, fried, I think, chicken leg with a roasted red pepper sauce, sweet potato cornbread and sautéed spinach. Perfect size to share after four appetizers. Lastly, we shared the cheesecake with the amarena cherries. Everything was so delicious and the night was just perfect!

Our server was excellent! He was knowledgeable about the menu, he made us feel welcomed but didn't overwhelm us with too many stops by the table. We sat outside during the Wednesday night Main Street event and the ambiance was great. I hope the weather and the City of Newark allows for these events well into Fall!
