I love this place. The food is really good, and the staff are attentive. It was raining and so all dining was indoors. Tables were well spaced out, and ones that were adjacent to another were split by plexiglass. But when I went, no party was adjacent to another party.
We had a great meal and the restaurant did a wonderful job safely distancing the tables and following safety protocols.

Party of 4 on a Sunday evening. Ordered apps and main courses. No one finished their dishes, there was something just a bit disappointing about everyone's food. One pasta dish was undercooked, the sliced steak had a huge, thick piece of sinew through the center of it which had to be cut around to eat but also, trim the outside gristle to chew. It was just very underwhelming and felt lazy to let a cut of meat like that go out the door. The salted caramel dessert was really no different than a pudding, it was sold to us as being much more unique. I wouldn't bother coming here again, nor would I recommend this to anyone, it was memorable for bad things vs. being neutral enough to forget, which is secondly preferable to being so good I'd recommend. Consider something else unless you're in a bind - and then tread carefully.
We dined outdoors. Service was great, food was great.
Food and service were excellent. We had the octopus appetizer, which was tender and grilled to perfection, then the kale salad, followed by the bronzini and eggplant parmesan. Portions were plentiful and presentation was top notch. If I had to make some constructive criticism, I'd say that the fingerling potatoes showed up in too many dishes, some variety of root vegetables would be appreciated. Lastly, the espresso was a huge watery disappointment, or as my father used to say acqua lorde. Please teach your wait staff how to pull a proper espresso.
Hi Mikel, Thank you very much for joining us and making Tarry Lodge your place to dine. We love to listen to our guest and it is always very appreciated. I am very happy to inform you that our expresso selection has changed, please stop by again and expresso will be on us. Thank you, Luis Gaspar General Manager
Our party of four sat outside on a very comfortable autumn evening recently and it was from start to finish a really enjoyable experience. Our server, Sam, was engaging, inviting and very attentive. The food was very good, the overall experience was enjoyable thanks to the Sam and the folks in the kitchen.
Overpriced for what you get. Bathroom was dirty and had flies. You're paying for the name.
Nice outdoor dinner during COVID time. Felt safe and enjoyed very good food.
Our servers and hostess were so wonderful! They made our celebration of a special occasion all the more happy and memorable. Our pizzas and salads were so incredibly delicious that we had none left to take home. This restaurant is very much worth a visit!!
Ate outside where there were more about eight tables on the sidewalk. It worked for us.
Server worked hard. In and out of the building.
Steak, bolognese and eggplant dishes were all very good. Salads are excellent.
Limited menu, but enough choice. Very good wine list.
Very good value.
Every dish was a home run. All the dishes had great flavor and presentation. Service was excellent.
The service was poor...not enough waitstaff. One waitress with 8 tables...water and drinks weren't refilled and the food was mediocre and bland. The meatball pizza arrived without meatballs.
Great spot to take a student to brunch in New Haven. Very close proximity to the residential colleges. And great bottomless bloody mary's!
Food and service was great!!
As good as it ever was!
The street is quiet apart from the odd motorcycle - can't be beat on a late summer evening.
Due to Covid and the stupid CT government's continued restrictions, despite low infections, the ambiance was not the usual. The staff did a marvelous job serving us and the food was excellent. All best wishes for economic recovery to TL. Mary
The food was great. first time trying the fungi pizza -very good!
It was very busy sat nite. Probably short help. Food was very good and so was the wine.
Able to reserve a spot outside and service was excellent- host to server to staff. Food delicious- partner was a little thrown by the arugula on the pie- Really, I could sit and just eat that focaccia and salad all night. 90 mins exactly right for 3 courses- thank you, Tarry Lodge for a lovely first dinner out since quarantine.
Bathrooms were dirty. Faucet in sink did not work. Inexcusable
Tarry Lodge is our “ go to” restaurant. We are never disappointed.
Everything was great; the food, the cocktails and especially the host and waiter!
The food is always top notch and service is attentive. From, pasta to pizza to fish and salads - delicious. The portions are plentiful. The only complaint from everyone in our party was about the music. Please change your playlist and turn it down. Something relaxing and not notable would be much better than the odd mix of pop.
Always a lovely experience. Great service, great food.
Great food and great staff. Followed the COVID restrictions while keeping a pleasant atmosphere.
Amount of invoice echo rita this for food that was only fair. Will not visit again.
The location is kinda tough for parking but it’s a great restaurant the food is amazing, and the service is right on par.
I have been to Tarry Lodge in New Haven at least a half dozen times. The food is consistently very good. The menu is simple as it is more noted for the pizza and wine than the entrees. Generally I prefer to have a pasta entrée when I visit here . New Haven is full of great pizzerias. So I and my guests had pasta dishes- Tagliatelle Bolognese for me and another friend and Linguine with clams by another friend. The white bean mixed greens salad is a satisfying starter. We also shared the grilled Octopus which was very flavorful and tender. Half price bottles of wine the evening we were there (Wednesday night) encouraged us to order a bottle. The wines by the bottle here are quite expensive- I would suggest ordering the house wines (ones offered by the glass or as a whole bottle).
As delicious as usual ! Never a bad meal. Food and service are always great
Didn’t remember that we were celebrating an anniversary. Most high-end restaurants do something special for customers (like offering a small toast etc.) on such occasions, so that was disappointing.
A little more pared down menu than the original Tarry Lodge in Port Chester. Has it’s own more urban atmosphere. Same delicious pizza and attentive service.
The carbonara was over the top and Our server was truly awesome!
We will be back! Thank you!
Tarry Lodge is a great place to bring your wife, friends or business associates. The food is always excellent, and the value for what you get is outstanding. The staff is attentive, courteous and helpful making you food choices. I have a hard time hearing, and I could talk and hear, even though the place was full when we were there. It is near the Yale Shops and a good place to catch lunch when shopping in the Yale area.
This was our third time back at Tarry Lodge in the past 6 months and the food is still consistent and super. Despite of my commitment to try something different this time, I had to order Eggplant Parmesan again. The new item we tried this time, Kale salad, was just divine. Kale salad, in general, is not my go-to but kale had the right amount of bitterness and crunch and dressing very light and not over-powering at all. I think it just might become my go-to when I visit Tarry Lodge in the future. The entire staff is very knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing.
Tarry Lodge will continue to be our favorite pre-concert dinner spot for some time to come.
Not worth the money , food ok ,desserts skimpy , to dark inside. Service ok. Host not to friendly
Excellent experience. Staff is friendly and accommodating.
Food was excellent! The sauce on the duck and mushroom risotto was delicious.
