Tar Barrel Brewery & Distillery
TAR BARREL Brewery & Distillery has seen Matt Bebe and Andrew Gow reunite to continue producing award winning craft beers at 72 Watt Road Mornington, the original home of Mornington Peninsula Brewery. And now with the introduction of a whiskey and gin distillery it has widened their ability to offer more crafted taste experiences.
The new Tar Bar will also maintain their belief in the philosophy of being ‘local’ and using ‘local’, having both core and specialty beers on tap to enjoy alongside the famous wood-fired pizzas. Local wines and spirits ensure all are catered for.
A destination not to be missed.

Found this place on the open menu app. Outside beer garden and tables were well laid out, beers were great without being too fancy and the wood fired pizzas were absolutely spot on. Will definitely be there again.
Great place to catch up with friends and colleagues
The pizzas were great and the beer is really good. The Phil Zinger band were amazing!
Fantastic service, amazing Pizza and overall ambience fun and full of laughs. Highly recommend and will definitely be visiting again. This was our first time, but wont be our last :)-
Really enjoyable experience and the pizzas were great!
Had a great night, will go again, Pizza 10/10, Staff 10/10, a bit expensive spirits $10.
overall great place
First time at Tar Barrel and was very happy to find a local place to enjoy great beer, good pizza, live music and wonderful venue.
Love the beer, great pizza and chicken wings. Live music.
Another awesome evening with friends at the best brewery on the peninsula - great beers, superb pizzas, fab live music.....what more could you want on a Friday eve ;-)
We enjoyed our afternoon. Great staff very friendly & helpful.
Had a really nice piping hot pizza straight from the oven.
Had beer tasting paddle to start with then chose our own selection for the next round!
Saw others drinking wine by the bottle or glass.
Music was great always enjoy the Jackson Four however it was a Jackson two!!
Only downside was we were upstairs at the back so music was heard to heard and distorted by background noise. Definitely not suited to anyone disabled up there so glad our friends did not join us - knee replacement & those stirs would not have been good.
Good venue to go on a Sunday afternoon plenty of parking around.
Lots of space for a big disorganised group of blokes , great pizzas and beer
Relaxed vibe, great beverage choice, average food, friendly service, overall an excellent night.
First time visiting and will definitely be back again
A few pints and a growler fill executed perfectly as usual.
Was fine, had under-booked by two people so we were told we had to leave. I understand restrictions and take responsibility for the mistake - but the person telling us we had to leave was very rude. No attempt at problem solving. Plenty of people walking in off the street and not being asked to sit. Didn’t have time to order pizzas as we’d planned.
We ended up getting a table for 10 at Dubliner and had an amazing night. Spent over $1000 too. Not particularly impressed with the service, especially of that one person.
Great beer, great pizza
Amazing service and food just as amazing 😊
Nice place to go. The pizza's were very tasty and well priced. Clearance of glasses etc from the table could have been better. Decor is industrial but has a good feel to it. Our group of 6 really enjoyed it and will certainly go again.
Great ambience, superb choice of beers and wines coupled with good valued pizza's and chips. Love the venue and will always go back ;-)
Always great pizzas and of course excellent selection of beers. Great night was had by all.
We made a booking online, which was confirmed only to turn up and the place was closed. Not impressed
Pizza was delicious, fast service with friendly staff. Great value for money
Always a great spot for a pizza & pint.. great food, beer and music.
Ordered bottle of wine and pizza.
One hour later we had finished the wine when the pizza was delivered.
We sent pizza back and left.
visiting from melbourne - venue was close to main parts of peninsula; great sunday sesh vibes. we tried the gin which was lovely & overall we had a great time.
We still love the beer and food, but missed the buzz as ver quiet on Saturday at 4pm.
Had a great time, with guys I catch up once a month with. Two of them had never been before and said they would be back.
Pizzas were fantastic
The food, service and atmosphere were great and so was the entertainment. However after 7.00pm the large roller door was opened and it got very cold. Make sure you rug up during the cold months.
Best place in Mornington for top of the range beers on tap
Great drinks, pizzas, staff and atmosphere. Very down to earth place.
45 mins for a couple of wood-fired pizzas. When I checked the order (we had a 4 year old in our group), was given a free serve of ‘tude’ from male bartender, “they’re backed up and will come out when they’re ready”. Right you are champ, we won’t be back.
First off, ley me say. Great venue, service was really good. Great team behind the bar. I gave the food three stars only because at 8:19pm, you couldn't get any! For me not the best decision given its a brewery! I'd expect food till 9pm but that's just me. I've had a few by 8pm and I'm spot on hungry. Beers are great, location is great. Music on the night was really good too. Really enjoyed myself. Second time I've visited and enjoyed it!
The afternoon was awesome.
We would definitely recommend to friends.
Plus my husband loves the Mornington Pale ale. A win win 👍
We loved the tasting paddles and the whole vibe was great. Lovely pizzas and the chips were hot and crunchy. A more diverse bar menu incorporating tapas and finger food would make the place perfect. 100% would revisit.
Absolutely loved it.
I’ve been twice now and I really enjoyed myself both times.
Due to health issues I can’t drink alcohol and the Mornington zero is a lovely non alcoholic beer and it’s wonderful that I can go to a pub like setting with friends and still get a beer and feel included in the culture and festivities.
The staff and all really friendly and inviting.
I will definitely go again and would recommend Tar Barrel to everybody!
Good beer, food took forever but was delicious when it arrived
Too long between visits for me, always enjoy our time at the brewery. Great selection of beers, wine and now whisky & Gin. Feel the menu is a tad limited, but to be honest its fine for a Friday night after work, few beers, pizza and chips.
Will always be back
Had a great couple of hours here from 4pm on a Thursday. Will spend longer next time, this was the last venue, after a busy day. Great feeling about the place
Service was good, food was good. Beer was good, didn’t try all, will next time.
A big day, this was our third venue, on brewer tour on a Thursday, work Wayno’s Buses. Excellent Day
