Great Beer
Tar Barrel is a well-known corner in Red Hill and named by road builders storing tar barrels during road building on the Mornington Peninsula.
TAR BARREL Brewery & Distillery has seen Matt Bebe and Andrew Gow reunite to continue producing award winning craft beers at 72 Watt Road Mornington, the original home of Mornington Peninsula Brewery. And now with the introduction of a whiskey and gin distillery it has widened their ability to offer more crafted taste experiences.
The new Tar Bar will also maintain their belief in the philosophy of being ‘local’ and using ‘local’, having both core and specialty beers on tap to enjoy alongside the famous wood-fired pizzas. Local wines and spirits ensure all are catered for.
A destination not to be missed.

Would not recommend. No covid safe plans in place to make customers feel safe. Poor service as we were taken to our table and given no menu or instructions on how to order. Upstairs was really hot and chairs were uncomfortable.

Tasty pizzas, hot chips, fair choice of beers although no Mornington draft or pale ale!
Overall, an an enjoyable couple of hours.

Closed too early and as it’s not in walking distance to anywhere else your evening is suddenly cut short.

We booked a table for dinner expecting a table and wood fired pizza.....we got neither!! We managed to find somewhere to sit in the beer garden and weren’t notified beforehand that things had changed and there was no food being served! We would have gone elsewhere had we known. Ordering food from menulog wasn’t the plan....We weren’t told there was no food being served when we first arrived .....instead we were told by other patrons after sitting there for an hour. The few staff members that were on were lovely and doing their best but run off their feet. We were told the manager/owner was out enjoying a meal elsewhere. Which was exactly what we were looking forward to also.
Totally understand a few hiccups being the first night open but that was just ridiculous.
