Drawing strong inspiration from TAO Downtown in New York, TAO Los Angeles is a dynamic two-level space, complete with four private dining rooms and a large bar. A grand staircase connects TAO’s ground and lower level seating, creating the ultimate platform to see and be seen. The custom staircase includes round banquettes and Chinese daybed-influenced sofas. As in New York, a 20-foot tall Quan Yin statue stands atop a koi pond; using 3D projection mapping technology, Rockwell Group’s LAB designed subtle animations bring this signature statue to life. The menu, developed by Chef/Partner Ralph Scamardella, feature a diverse selection of Asian-inspired specialties, focusing on Chinese, Japanese and Thai techniques and ingredients.

We had an amazing experience at Tao! I have been to the Tao in NYC which I thought was truly amazing and it was great to see the LA restaurant was equally as phenomenal. The space itself is remarkable, the food and service both top-notch and overall experience was one of the best I've had in years of dining. Looking forward to the next time!

I had a horrible experience. I was happy when I arrived because of the decorations, however, I was seated at a small table with no room to move. I had explained to them that I was celebrating a birthday. My server arrived and asked if we wanted to order anything. She did not mention her name or anything.
Five minutes later we ordered appetizers. She brought us plates and her hair was in a braid located in the front. Her hair was touching the plate and I immediately felt uncomfortable. It took my tempura roll an hour to even come out. I did not even enjoy it. Later on, my server did not check on us. Surprisingly she checked on all her other tables and not ours. I became so irritated and upset that I spent so much money. This is not a restaurant I will be returning to.

Tao is a restaurant with real 'wow factor'; the decor is stunning and it really feels special just being there. Food is excellent, mostly familiar Chinese and Japanese dishes executed expertly and stylishly. Portions are generous but thankfully not as excessive as is in many LA restaurants, and prices while high are wholly fair for the quality and price. We ordered gradually, a couple of dishes at a time, ordering more if we were hungry and stopping when we were full, which worked well! The only negatives were slightly patchy service - our first two dishes came very quickly, and before our wine, which we had to chase, and we had to ask for side-plates - and the ambience being spoiled somewhat by an incredibly loud and raucous group which the management didn't appear to do anything to control. Obviously this is a place to come to have fun but it's very much a special occasion place (we were on our honeymoon, and there were several birthdays going on) and management should realise that guests don't want to have their experience spoiled by any one party behaving inappropriately. Still, I'd happily recommend Tao to anyone wanting a very good meal in a jaw-dropping restaurant!

Came here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday and yay for DineLA deals! The meal came with an appetizer, a main course and dessert for only $49 per person.

The setting is absolutely amazing, and I loved the digital animations shown over Guanyin. We were seated in the two-person lounge area looking over the center of the atrium and the view was perfect for people watching. Our server, Elizabeth, was the sweetest and provided consistent service - which made our night out extremely enjoyable! She even had candles and 'Happy Birthday' chocolates put on both of our desserts so the boyfriend ended up having two birthday "cakes."

The food was delicious and as authentically flavored as an Asian restaurant in Hollywood can be. I highly recommend the chicken satays and mongolian beef. The cocktails we got were also well-made and worth the price tag (get the Lychee Martini and Cucumber Sparkler).

Thanks Elizabeth for the memorable night out!

This is an exceptional restaurant. When you walk in you are amazed at the design and the immediate service. Our waitperson, Lauren, was always there when we needed her. The star, however, was the food. each dish was delicious. The Tuna Pringles, Sea Bass skewers and the whole Snapper really stood out. If you get the desert platter prepare to be stunned!

We went to Tao for dinner before seeing a show at the Pantages. We went right when they opened, so we didn't have to wait for our table. The ambience, decor, and service at Tao were all great. We thought the food was good, but overpriced for what it was. However, still a good choice for date night.

The ambiance in the restaurant an obvious cultural riff of the food it purports to illustrate a mastery of. The entrees were paltry at the highest rating, the appetizers were two levels short of decadent. The service in the restaurant was efficient in delivering essentials, but personalities were very stiff, and overly-rehearsed to near robotic delivery. The managerial presence on the floor was set decoration and offered no interaction. An enhancement of robust flavors and marination can save all courses of the food served here.

Had a wonderful time! We were seated right away. As soon as we entered, we were immediately impressed by the decor and ambiance. It was perfect for my boyfriend's birthday! Our waitress took our order fast and our drinks and appetizers arrived quickly. We weren't rushed to finish our meal. The portions are on the bigger size. The tuna poke was excellent and chicken satay was very tasty. I loved the Tao-tini, the second one was a bit stronger than the first - perfect sweet drink. I ordered the dessert platter (since it came with a big candle) it was perfect! My boyfriend and I left very full and happy. Will definitely come back!

The sushi was mediocre at best. Definitely not worth the price. We ordered toro at $18 a piece and got a very thin slice of toro.
The waiter was in a hurry to take our order. When we wanted to talk to him and ask about his recommendations he said he’ll give us a couple more minutes to order. The bus boy was taking the dishes before I was ready. I put my last sushi in my mouth and before I could have some ginger to cleanse my palette the ginger and my plate was gone.
Between dishes, it took a long time to get the next order. We were having sushi and generally sushi comes out pretty quick. The entire meal lasted 2 hours due to the slow speed of getting our food.
We ordered the Tuna Pringle’s twice and was charged $24 for the first order and $28 for the second order. There were 3 Pringle’s both times. I’m still confused about that.
I’ve been to Tao many times and had much better experiences but I definitely wouldn’t come back now. They need to train their staff much better and raise their quality of sushi.
