Due to very poor weather, we had to eat in our car. However, the staff were great, particularly as they were working on very challenging circumstance. The food was good, my wife had the 5 bean chilli, which she said could have been warmer, but my chicken pie was gorgeous and piping hot! 👍
Menu was just Sunday lunch no variety or other options. So we came away usually we live it up there rain or shine but didn't want Sunday lunch on this occasion. But food is amazing just very disappointing after booking a table and travelling that far for food to come away with no food . The stench of smoke was over powering too . But still love the place . Strange tough times and will be back .
We stayed 2 nights and overall had a great time. Would have scored higher but for the fact we had to wait 2 hours for our food on sunday night. Kitchen had lost our order. Staff have been excellent and friendly though so that one glitch didn't detract from us having a good weekend
I’ve just returned from a disappointing evening at your establishment. I’ll run you through my evening and I wonder if you’ll find it acceptable.
First turned up at the organised time, to spend 20 minutes stood on the side of the road signing in. The times set by your booking in system (I would maybe consider staggered booking times).
So get to table, (not been wiped but ok) asked if we were ready to order, order, pay etc, all seems ok (how we were wrong!)
After a short time, some nachos turn up, no cutlery, napkins yeah fine, no sign of a drink. Nachos finished (enquiry was made into drinks), plate collected, no drink.
Drinks turn up! alleluia!
Long wait for two fish and chips (can handle wasn’t too bad)
Two fish and chips turn up, no cutlery, no condiments, nice Lad went to get cutlery, no offer of condiments. Ended up helping myself.
Fish and chips - fish was fine wasn’t exactly the hottest but edible. My chips were burnt and cold, the others were hot and border line undercooked. I did get a slice of bread debatably the nicest part of the meal! Certainly not a £50 meal!
You’ve done a lot of things well, and it is hard times, but if you can’t get the basics right your doomed! Spoke to my brother and he said it was a shambles when he went at Christmas. You need to remember going to tan hill is an event it’s an hour and half round trip, and I’ll not be coming again and telling everyone I know not to go until start hearing some actual good stories, should maybe look at trip advisor, don’t think I’m the only one!
Anyway I’d quite like to know your thoughts thanks Chris (table 2)
Having visited in the past many times I now feel that the pub has become too commercial.
Great place...Fabulous food ... staff were lovely as we had rain snow and sun..we were lucky as we had a table undercover 😀
Staff need better manners. Will not return for that reason alone.
Our first campervan stay at Tan Hill. Angus met us outside and showed us where to park. The location is amazing. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t on our side and we had hail stones just prior to our dinner reservation which was outside due to covid. We took blankets to sit on and wrapped them around us. It was a bit unorganised when staff were deciding where we should sit which is strange when we booked weeks ago. We did get a table with a parasol and Angus brought us a gas heater. The heater was a godsend and I dread to think how much they are spending on keeping everyone warm with the heaters. The food was absolutely gorgeous, the pie and chips were so tasty and tasted like proper pub food. The staff were amazing, they all never stopped and are on the go in the freezing cold conditions. 2 staff even apologised for walking in front of me when they hadn’t done anything wrong. I got the impression that they were possibly constantly apologising because people had been complaining unnecessary. The music was great and there were lots of people there. The staff were friendly and adapting to the new regulations. The breakfast in the morning was really good. It was clearly quality ingredients and the best black pudding I’ve had in a long time. We had a great overnight stay and it was great to feel a little bit of normality coming back.
It has to be one of the best places we have ever stayed. The food was excellent, the staff could not do enough for you, they worked so dame hard but all kept smiling.Finshed the evening of with singers. Just perfect end to a perfect stay. For sure we will return sooner that later. Thanyou everyone for looking after us..
Well organised outdoor service in line with covid rules. Staff were exceptional remaining helpful and cheerful on what was a very cold evening. Fantastic ambience with live music couldn't have asked for better.
Service was very slow and had to ask for updates a few times to check where the food/drinks where. Food was ok but for the price portions could be bigger. The pub was not busy so unsure why service was so slow. Heaters were available however had to ask for one as was not offered. If you are planning a quick pit stop plan to wait a while.
Absolutely amazing, wanted to go for years but never had time! I’d absolutely recommend anyone wanting to go to just go!!! Amazing staff, brilliant food and a fantastic place… the views 😍
Great location and view ruined by a cocked up meal order resulting in no food after an hour and a quarter wait.
Refund provided quickly by friendly staff.
Heater kept going out and ran out of gas . Shelter inadequate. Poor service and indifference to customer's needs. Very disappointing and quite expensive for what we received. This experience was not as our ones , we wouldn't visit again.
Difficult times but Tan Hill have tried very hard to make a lunch experience memorable. As we can only sit outside at the moment the experience is not as good as sitting inside which I always enjoy. On the day I visited it was cold - a shame but they had heaters on each table which helped. Was all good fun though and am so glad they seem to be coming through these times ok. Lets hope. A great place to visit
Amazing, remote, location. Pretty windy outside but that's what you expect from the highest pub in Britain!
The pies we had were fantastic, good beer as well and really friendly staff.
Service far too slow, food overpriced, COVID procedures good
Very nice food friendly staff good outdoor space if dining outside you need a coat!
The most horrendous experience from start to finish. 1/2hr before we were asked what drinks we’d like after asking twice for service. Orders wrong, food ran out, our meals finished before kids brought out, low quality drinks, poor service, the list goes on!
Finally the toilets were utterly disgraceful, not cleaned, broken toilet seats, toilet roll dispensers off the walls and pure dirt! in a time where cleanliness is so important and where people are nervous about returning to mixing, this was totally appalling.
Totally understand in the current climate things are difficult but on arrival it was plain to see that current regulations were not being used
The food was cold when it arrived
A lack of communication amongst staff led to a very poor experience. We received Reheated food and uncooked chips, twice! Great situation for a drink but will not recommend the food.
The location was extra special, views spectacular. First time visit it was a bit breezy and cool which was expected for outside eating. Food and cuppas did not stay hot for long under the circumstances. Will be back when we can eat indoors. Staff were very professional, polite and courteous
I have already emailed Tan Hill but so far no response!
We had such a great night at Tan Hill, thank god for the heaters! Lol. The staff were lovely and attentive, I had the vegan curry which was AMAZING! I’m not even just saying that, was lush. Great atmosphere can’t wait to visit again.
This place is great.
They really have pulled out all the stops to make it viable to work within Covid restrictions.
However, prepare yourself to wait a long time for your food, meals not delivered together and a lot of confusion.
There were items missing from our meals which we asked about and are yet to be offered?
The staff are all lovely, despite them working in cold conditions. It IS apparent though, that most of them lack good customer service skills.I imagine sourcing a staff team under current circumstances must prove difficult.
Answers from staff would have went a long way in making our evening better.
I did request a table with a back due to having my mother with me, who is disabled, however, when we arrived at our prebooked time, there were no tables available that were as I had requested. I can’t imagine that all of the other customers requested the same....?!? Diners were supposed to have their tables for 1.5hours, so, could have been asked to switch, but weren’t.
Also, still unsure why we had to pay £10 for the dog?? Thought he may have been given a sausage but he remains in a huff that he wasn’t.
Despite these issues. We do love the pub. Next time may rethink a few things.
We booked over 3 weeks prior to our arrival . We where told that there was not any tables available but they would fit us in. We ended up on a high table in the middle . We waited over an hour to order food and then when it arrived it was Luke warm.
I would not visit again under the current climate as they are not able to deliver their best service. I did not really enjoy my visit if I’m being totally honest , sorry .
Had a brilliant night staff happy and friendly only thing I would complain about are the toilets we arrived at 4pm on Saturday left around 11am on Sunday and the toilets hadn't been cleaned once they stunk and were filthy overall really enjoyed it we will defo be back
Had a lovely evening at Tan Hill on Saturday. Food was nice and atmosphere made up for a couple of blips with service which can be forgiven as they are trying to hard to please everyone and the entertainment was fantastic. Bravo
Lovely food, the outdoor area was great and the service was prompt
To be fair we were over an hour late so only had 1 1/2 hours at our table which was enough. Was told the kitchen was closed between 4-5 but could order and the food would be cooked after it was reopened, all that was fine apart from others seated after us, were able to order straight away and their food arrived way before ours, that was my only gripe, food was great and service was great with the drinks and the food when it arrived. One wired one was we ordered onion rings as sides and they came out as starters....??! I’d go again as the roads were amazing to get to it and the views were brilliant!
Lovely setting. Good service- food really hot and tasty
Outside seating area really cold. Needs heaters as the tarpaulin cover prevents the sun getting through.
Service was good
Great service, great place. Amazing how it’s busy given its location. Great experience.
Spot on lovely place definitely worth a visit lovely people
1st time camping at the tan Hill originally wanted 1 night but stayed 2 I hate camping but the tan Hill was something different. I originally booked as an engagement celebration for me and my fiance and as we wanted to look at it as a possible wedding venue. Due to restrictions we couldn't look inside but the whole atmosphere the unique location the staff everything has totally sold it for us. Couldn't fault it. Food was beautiful garlic mushrooms out of this world. Its off grid and has the odd hiccup but nothing that outweighs the good. If you camp wrap up take loads of blankets and plenty clothing it's absolutely freezing on a night. I can't thank leanne dave and the team enough for being so welcoming and helpful.
Amazing food! Great staff! Only bad thing was staff now take orders on iPads, over 6 staff and 2 iPads? Ended up ordering 2 rounds at a time. Bring back paper orders!
Been going to Tan Hill for years not the best experience!
Very slow service unfortunately but the food was good when it finally arrived.
Long wait for food and not really busy if you us app wifi major issue.suggest table service with pen and paper more reliable
The views were beautiful. Understandably, it was busy given the lovely weather and we had to wait an hour for food. We had the cheese pie which was tasty but expensive at £16.95 though we didn't mind paying it if it helps the pub get back on its feet after Covid.
