Clean environment; greeted quickly on arrival; friendly staff.
The first night I had chosen crabcakes and the Black Ash Pasta . Super good amount of food and simply delicious. Luka the chief is right on point. The next night I had shrimp wonton with amazing sauces. Then a margarita pizza
which was very good
Once again superb delights.
Very friendly staff Kara was a great hostess and Al did a great job as my waiter.
The food was great. Definitely would go back
food was great. a big improvement since last time we ate at black bear lodge 4-5 years ago.
The place was empty. It was a giant open room with only a handful of tables, which felt awkward. The food was only fair. Our waitress did a great job.
Great food, service and ambience! Highly recommend all to try!
This is a hidden gem of Stratton. Food is absolutely fantastic, for reasonable price. It may not be in the Village but for a good meal this does not disappoint.
My Osso Bucco was excellent
My Wifes Pasta special was great
Our waitress was terrific
We have eaten here before, but not in the last couple of seasons. The food was excellent, was served hot and really was delicious! We were pleasantly surprised and send kudos to the (new?) chef.
We were 5 minutes past our grace period as we had traffic to Vermont and no cell service to tell them. They tried to send us away saying we were late so they could no longer seat us. We finally convinced the manager to let us sit. We would have been better off not getting seated after all. The food was awful. Everything we ordered was greasy, cold, and unappetizing. Costco makes better appetizers. I’m having PTSD from the mystery meat sauce I ate. Never again. Would NOT recommend this place.
We were very excited to go here but it was a real disappointment. The place was eerily quiet and it felt like we were eating in a conference room. The food was not that good either. I had the pesto gnocchi and it was sub par at best. Note, the gentleman sitting near us who talked on his phone at full volume the entire evening sent the same dish back so clearly we were not the only ones who felt this way. The ambience was not inviting at all. And, the food and drinks were not cheap ($64 for 4 mules). The ONLY positive was the service -- our waitress was very kind and super helpful, so much so that we didnt want to send the gnocchi back. We were bummed we ended our weekend here.
Table 43.1 at Black Bear Lodge was very accommodating. Staff was helpful and gave some great recommendations. Service was quick and the restaurant is super convenient for the Lodge's guests.
My friend got the arugula salad with calamari and I got the Black ash pasta. We also got a side of fries. Out reservation was at 4:30 (restaurant for dinner opens at 4) and they were out of arugula (only one other party was there) so they subbed the arugula for kale. The dressing lacked flavor--or maybe not enough dressing. Calamari was a bit salty but made up for the lack of flavor of the salad. As for the black ash pasta, it was more of a chicken noodle soup dish. Lack of flavor, the pasta was overcooked and became mush in the soup. I actually barely touched the pasta and ate everything else around it. A waitress (different lady than our actual waitress) came to clean the table and did not bother to ask me if the pasta was okay, even though it was obviously untouched. I have to say, any 2 star rating I gave was due to the focaccia that was given in the beginning. The free bread and the side of the fries were the clear winners of this dinner.
Caitlin was an awesome server
This restaurant never disappoints. Reservations are easy, food is consistently delicious, and the staff are always friendly, upbeat and energetic. Does the manager ever get days off? She is always there and always very friendly when we've dined.
It was very good as the reviews I read were mixed. The service was excellent and we were very pleased. Highly recommend. Will go back...
Average food, overpriced.
Fantastic service! Food on Wednesday was AMAZING!!! On Saturday it was just good.
Food took 2 hours and every burger and pizza was burnt.
Portions were generous and a number of the pasta dishes were housemade. I got the beef stew, which was excellent.
Got the Rack of Lamb special. It was reasonably priced and possibly the tastiest lamb dish I’ve ever ordered. My compliments to the chef! We’ll definitely be back soon
Overall we had a very nice experience
We would come back
Good food in a hotel setting good service a little overpriced
Warm ambience with friendly server and good food.
Our waiter was eager to please and efficiently took care of our table.
The interior furnishings, decorations, Walls and carpeting are at least 10 years old. The interior in very dated and very unappealing. Very drab and dark. Other than a new fancy name and updated menu the facility is downright miserable.
Where are tablecloth’s and nice lighting? The bear motif post lights are cheesy. And right in your eyes. Come on Stratton. Paint and new carpets and tablecloths and new chairs will liven up the dining room.
I had read other reviews but decided to go in anyway. It was worse than expected. Food was cold and bland. One out of the two meals was good, for the price- totally not worth it. I made a reservation so we wouldn’t have to wait in long lines on a Saturday night in the village. If I had to do it over again, I’d rather wait outside in the cold than have a reservation here. The waitress was nice although experienced waitstaff would’ve offered some sort of compensation for cold tasteless food that was not consumed.
This place needs an overhaul. Terrible food.
The veggie burger is amazing. So happy to have gluten free bun as an option. The garlic lemon vinegarette is delicious. Staff is so pleasant and accommodating but they seem to be a little slow paced.
Great menu. Lots f great choices. The steak s great. They do drop the ball often causing the food to be very in consistent. If they could execute better the food would’ve really good.
Service is lacking. That should implement a training program for their servers.
Atmosphere is lacking. They should definitely spruce the place up a bit. At least try by adding some plantlife, lighting, and use the fire place daily.
Certainly convenient when staying in the Lodge.
Initial seating and service was a bit slow.
Once we ordered, the service was more attentive.
The food was quite good. The Calamari appetizer was crispy and tasty.
My wife certainly enjoyed her Pappardelle with sausage. My beef with Madeira sauce and Smashed potatoes was great.
We had a nice dinner. Service was friendly and attentive. The burger (which I had without the egg) was excellent. Better than other Stratton restaurants Grizzly's and Mulligans. Husband's pasta was OK. Prices are high and we expect that at a ski resort. Ambience OK. Tables were well spaced for Covid. In terms with their mask policy: wear at table when not eating or drinking and when server is present - this may be more stringent than other places or than the state mandate - but let's keep the servers safe so this restaurant can stay open and servers can keep their jobs.
We will no longer be dining in restaurants that require people to wear masks while seated. This is not acceptable or makes any sense. We have found the food in this restaurant to be not consistent. The same dish from one day to another can be good or bad.
Stopped by after skiing. Food was pretty decent, but a small menu choice to order from. The service was a bit poor, mostly due to the negative attitude from the server. I'd skip and go elsewhere next time, especially for the price.
COVID experience makes difficulty but service was great
Food solid
Drinks well served
Honored reservation right on time
We arrived to a very empty dinning room, with only 2 other tables inhabited. We were walked to our table, and told that we must wear our masks at all times unless eating or drinking (in a very negative rude tone). We indicated that on that same day we had been to other restaurants in Vermont (Stratton Mountain), that did not have that requirement in place. The employee sent her manager to our table and in a very rude manner she stated we must leave if we did not comply with the mask rules while seated at our table. We left the restaurant, and immediately checked the Vermont COVID restaurant guidelines, and there was no such mandate on the official governors web sight. We are property owners at Stratton mountain and really like to support our local businesses, especially during these most difficult times. With that said it was a very negative uninviting experience. The employees were sullen and rude. Net, net even under normal conditions we would never step foot in their property again.
So happy to see the restaurant open and keeping safety in mind. Great selection of menu items and good food and service. Casual dining after skiing all day - if they dressed up the interior a bit it would really improve the rating.
VERY quiet due to Covid constraints and at least 4 tables of diners who decided they'd not wear masks when the server was at their tables so they got up and left the restauarant.
No vibe as there were only 5 tables seated while we were there but we had a courteous server, yummy apps and it felt safe to be out.
The waitress was not friendly and made us feel uncomfortable even when we were placing our order and asking questions. Then we asked for water and extra chips and no one came back to the table for over 15 min. When she brought back the water she slammed it on the table and didn't say a word or ask if we needed anything else and walked away in a hurry. The restaurant is very pricey and I expect to have a waiter who is friendly and courteous even if they are under stress. The food was very good and the social distancing was appropriate considering the current covid situation.
The first night we ate there we had a different waitress and she was very friendly and helpful in placing the order and came back frequently to see if we needed anything.
Very nice place. Food was delicious. Tabled nicely spaced out for social distancing.
