handrolls, bincho-tan roasted meats and ice-cold beer; this is not your typical sushi joint. Come in and see for yourself.
Great place. Will visit again!
Had reservations for 730 and got seated at 8... with 5 open tables around. Looked like this hosts first day on the job..
Despite our being one of the first tables to arrive for lunch, the Kitchen was extreme slow. Our server (Alfredo) didn’t keep us updated, so we felt silly waiting there. We had to flag him down too much to get his attention.
Food was excellent (most importantly), and I’m hopeful management will figure out how improve the service.
Great food and service! The waiter was extremely helpful, and the whole experience was wonderful.
Great experience with great food!
Soooooo great! Couldn’t have been better. Authentic sushi
Fun vibe - great old school hip hop playing. Good for a celebratory meal. We let the chef surprise us, and the fish was fresh, flavorful, and just enough. The rolls were excellent, as well. Our server was patient, happy to explain our options, and took care of our friend with a shellfish allergy. The drinks were perfect, service professional and quick, and it all made for a fun, memorable experience.
The cost was very high for quality of sushi. It was a nice atmosphere, but we would not return due to average sushi for a high price.
Best sushi in Chicago hands down, but you pay for what you get.
Splurge for the tasting at the bar....you will have sushi that you’ve never had before or knew existed - I swear!
When we first looked online, we saw typical rolls and sashimi...but oh no....there is nothing typical about the cuts of fish....been to Nobu many times and never had anything like this. Oma-kaze - it’s a must - reserve since chef creates for a small group.
Food wasnt worth the money. All the sushi tasted the same and bland
It was a great dinning experience! I have been here twice, the service is great, and fresh sushi rolls!
Some of the best sushi in the city! Great value for the price, always a hip atmosphere.
The staff was amazing, accommodating, and so pleasant to interact with!
Great food and amazing staff
We had a fabulous time!! We loved the food and enjoy coming there every time in town.
Poor food quality, tempura was pan fried, can tuna and non fresh nigiris
Staff was great! Food was great! Prices were great! Happy a great 9 yr wedding anniversary lunch! See you soon!
The music here is often too loud for a business conversation.
It was extremely hot in there. Need better AC system
Came for an early dinner with my family (5 adults and 3 kids under 6) and the service was great. This was the second time I’ve come, and the food was good. The only thing that was disappointing was that the bathrooms were disgusting so we paid the bill quickly and took the kids to a nearby place to use the bathroom and clean up. It may be more reflective that the patrons are gross and not the restaurant.. but we ran out of there.
Spicy tuna was far far too spicy. Only complaint.
The food was excellent and service fantastic. It would be an easy 5 but it was really, really loud and a bit pricey.
Good location, easy to walk to from our hotel which was down by the Navy Pier. Food was excellent, atmosphere was upscale, service was spot on. Definitely a good find for us on our vacation.
We went for my birthday dinner and we were a party of 9. Excellent food — we even got a complimentary sushi roll! Only complain is the uncomfortable seats. We were at a long high top with wooden backless stools.
Sushi San is the best sushi in River North and is not bad price wise! The specials are always great and their crunchy avocado rolls are out of this world.
Some of the best sushi I have had, the concept, style, service, everything was fantastic. The fact that they have fresh Wasabi available shows the extent to which they take their craft seriously. Definitely one of my go to places when visiting Chicago.
Just be aware that it is an economical venue kind of like a tin of sardines.
Delicious food, exceptional service, )
My boyfriend and I had a lovely anniversary dinner! At the start of our meal, we were surprised with two glasses of sparkling wine to commence the celebration. Our server, Allie, was attentive, helpful and kind. We thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes! I strongly recommend the Japanese Old Fashioned--delicious and smooth. Thank you for a wonderful first time at SUSHI-SAN! We look forward to coming back soon.
We have been there twice and it was amazing both times!
The food was good, but the service was horrible. The service was inattentive to our order. It took 25 minutes to serve our edamame and drink order. I was given a hot glass for my beer. We ordered a second round of rolls and it took 30 minutes to receive our order. At that point, we lost our appetite.
Amazing sushi! they use best ingredients and chef is very creative
Relatively small number of options but all very well done.
Both sushi/sashimi and hot items such as the beef or pork are super.
Also very attentive attention to issues such as letting us know about MSG, dashi, or kombu which can give customers migraines
Our weekly date. Never disappoints
Everything is delicious at Sushi San and the service is always amazing. The rocky road ice cream is so good too!!!
The food we ordered seemed unclean. Too much sauce and I found a fish scale swimming in my mayonnaise coated fish. Ugh.
Sushi-San is great! The fish is SUPER fresh and incredibly prepared. I especially love the express lunch options - a fantastic deal and quickly served for those of us on a tight schedule during the workweek. Highly recommend!
Love this place! My wife and I come here a lot and always have the best time. Great food and incredible service. Atmosphere is perfect!
We had the best time st sushi-San! We were celebrating my husbands birthday in Chicago and sushi was out to pick for an evening out! The service and food were amazing! We were treated by the manager and he shared his menu favorites! After our server greeted us with a drink and just as wonderful service as the manager. We will definitely recommend Sushi-San to friends and will be back next time we visit Chicago!
