Wonderful! Such a fun, quiet, and safe dining experience in the garden.
Food and service were outstanding.
The outdoor space is nice and quiet.
A great place to eat quality sushis and sashimis.
Meet up with dear friends!
Top notch and definitely worth the value for omíkase. The backyard dining was so adorable and loved what they did to adapt to the pandemic restrictions and still provide a great dining experience
It was so amazing I went back the very next day! Great new restaurant!
I had passed by this place on my walks but never tried it. My boyfriend wanted sushi for his birthday dinner, and Sushi Nonaka had a garden in the back so we tried it. We got the omakase dinner. Since we weren’t at the counter, the sushi was served three at a time, better than all at once. All the fish is imported from Japan and was fresh and delicious. We had Sapporo beer in draft (our favorite) and a small carafe of Good presentation, very friendly staff. My boyfriend’s one minor complain was that the hand rolls seemed small to him. On the other hand, I appreciated that we weren’t filling up on rice. Final verdict : expensive but worth it.
Excellent. Best omakase we’ve had in a while. Good value.
Food was very average. Pieces tiny and not fkavorful. This is not like having “sushi in Japan”, which is an excuse others make.
The sushi was beautiful and the dining experience was very enjoyable. I’d go back tomorrow.
Best sushi on the UWS easy-and would put it against some of the heavy hitters across Manhattan.
First time here. Amazing food and service
Can’t wait to go again
Truly an amazing experience.
The food is amazing! The price is reasonable! I'll be back soon.
I struggled giving this review as it may get the word out on this gem. Really want it for myself but need to share how great the experience was. Great service, amazing sushi presentation, quality and taste!
Highly recommend but don't tell everybody so I can get another reservation soon!
Love the food- the sushi was fresh and reminded me of dining in Japan! Authentic. Great, thoughtful staff. Also the omakase is a great value! Great space and ambience. I will be back soon! Highly recommend.
A great sushi speakeasy, had the omakases and it was amazing.
I’ve spent a lot of time in Japan and also frequent sushi places around the city, and I was impressed. It was an authentic Japanese sushi place...you know right when you walked in. The fish was amazingly fresh, good variety, good service, and the outside garden terrace in summer is spot on. Prices are very reasonable for the quality. In my neighborhood, so definitely will be going back!
I had gotten Sushi Nonanka for takeout a couple times before finally being able to dine outside there, and it was amazing. Especially during COVID times, the back patio is a great outdoor seating option, as you are away from people walking by on the street/sidewalks. We each got the sushi set, and everything was so fresh and delicious. I already can't wait to go back!
They are making a great effort to provide a lovely experience during this awful pandemic. Worth supporting. Their style of sushi is different. Edomae. Each piece has been marinated and is very tender with a bit of sauce applied. More typical of what you get in Japan. I had the omakase plus a few extra pieces. Let’s try to keep these guys in business!
Omakase was exceptional. Warm, friendly and welcoming. Owners are fantastic.
so good! brand new sushi spot. the outdoor dining is in a cute secret courtyard which is very nyc. fish quality is excellent and it’s clear the sushi chefs know what they’re doing. get the cucumbers!!!
Really great food and fresh fish! The staff was all extremely friendly. Would recommend this place to anyone who loves sushi. I will be back!
Excellent service, beautiful presentation, delicious food. The fish was so fresh it melted in our mouths!
carefully prepared omakase - coming at you very quickly. had a few fish I never tried before - and were delicious. even though space is in basement, is light. AND.. unusual for sushi bars, seats very comfortable. as of march 7 no liquor license, but I am sure that will change.
Fantastic authentic sushi bar.
We wanted to try out Sushi Nonaka because we read very good things on Eater. Everything about the restaurant was top notch. The experience was totally authentic and we felt we could have been in Japan. It is a small intimate restaurant and has a lovely vibe.
Every bite we ate was outstanding. Service the same - both the owner and the manager were delightful and warm. We were told the chef was an expert and had been doing this for many years in Japan.
We are foodies and love to eat - must say this was the best meal we ate in a long time! A great addition to the West Side. Go quick because we are certain you won’t be able to get in once the word gets out !
Great omakase and a very reasonable price. Reminded me of a classic Tokyo sushi spot.
Wonderful! Owner is lovely and checks in with all her guests. Happy staff. Excellent Omakase. We look forward to returning.
Great addition to the UWS. We dined there this past weekend and were very pleasantly surprised. The space is truly well done. Loved the fact that is a “secret” place in the basement. The owner was very gracious. They still do not have their liquor license, but offered complementary sake/wine (nice touch). If you are looking for a really nice Omakase that is priced fairly @$125, you will really enjoy Nonaka.
Excellent in every way!
Incredible food, incredible service. They are still in soft opening but this place will undoubtedly become very hard to book very soon.
Decent sushi. Did not taste vinegar in the rice so it was pretty bland but held together nicely. The fish tastes nice and fresh and was overall good. Prices here are very reasonable as well. Not the best sushi I’ve had but pretty good for the cost.
Outstanding service and customer service. Delicious omakase served with salad dressed with homemade yuzu dressing covered in thin slices of tuna, well prepared miso soup and smooth delicate chanwanmushi. Presentation was restrained Japanese style, with beautiful pottery. Warm welcoming atmosphere created by both the manager and sushi chef.
really made me feel like i was back n japan. they are a soft opening and need to get the omakase but so worth it.
They serve very good quality of sushi omakase at reasonable price including dessert, chawamushi and miso soup. This becomes my favorite sushi place. Hope they continue to keep the quality of foods and price as it is now!
