Supernormal - City
The Supernormal menu comprises old and new favourites, drawing on good times at Golden Fields over the past three years and the Supernormal Canteen over the Summer.
Supernormal is open from 11am Monday to Sunday. Our menu is available all-day for you to enjoy as much or as little as you like; a long lunch, mid-afternoon drinks, a special dinner or just a coffee.
Supernormal offers a broad range of Asian focused dishes, delicious wines with a story to tell & great drinks. A beautifully considered space with a long open kitchen bar, karaoke fun downstairs and a variety of seating for groups and private parties.
Heading to Fleetwood Mac made for. Memorable night
Lobster rolls were divine! I’m not even a fan of lobster!
Peanut butter parfait was also delish!
Great food and service. Food lives up to the expectations
i visited the restaurant previously during my trip to melbourne and was very impressed with the food. i've been raving about it to another friend so we went on sunday night. unfortunately the whole snapper, burnt butter, wild watercress and kombu failed to wow us. the fish itself was very fresh, but taste bland. it was like eating a plain steam fish. we only enjoyed the prawn chicken dumplings and lobster roll. overall i think standards have dropped significantly.
A bit disappointing as a whole, after reading all of the reviews thought this would be a great spot for lunch. It was very noisy, food pretty average, service average. Not to mention all the fruit flies buzzing around. The manager did move our table after the entree, but they followed us to the next table.
Service and food was all I could ask for thank you!
I just recommend supernormal to a friend just then before writing this review.
Absolutely brilliant + authentic service. Greeted with warmth after struggling to find a city park + therefore running late - and the attentiveness was ongoing from there, without ever being over bearing. A fabulous Sunday lunch indeed - food great (aside from the green tea sorbet which was very bitter) + a delicious Italian wine to accompany. Thank you Supernormal.
Literally the best restaurant I've been to in regards to having dietary requirements considered.
The staff are awesome, the atmosphere is great and the food was so delicious.
Third time in four weeks at this restaurant: I keep coming back, not only for the pot sticker dumplings and lobster rolls (both amazing), but for the friendly, charming and helpful service.
I really like some items of the Menu like the tuna and lobster rolls and tried a few items I had not had previously which were good but not as nice as I had hoped.
Still a fan !
The food was great. We ordered one of the set menus and our courses were rushed through to begin with but when we asked them to slow down they were very obliging. After that we had all the time we wanted to eat and chat with our friends. It’s busy and noisy but that’s what we expected from this restaurant.
The food at Supernormal is always great but the real clincher is the amazing staff. The perfect amount of attentive and leaving us alone. My friend had her new born with us and even though the pram was a little inconvenient they were nothing but accommodating. The wine list is great - good mix of Australian & international wines.
The dumplings in the chilli sauce are an absolute highlight.
We were seated at 5:20 in a nearly empty restaurant and ordered a few dishes. The pacing was way off, with the main being served 45 mins after the starter was finished, only to realize they had brought the wrong dish. No excuse for this at a slow time! The food was tasty and servers were friendly but we left unimpressed (actually, annoyed!) and would not return or recommend.
Very knowledgeable staff . Dinner was delicious especially Sesame bread. Dessert wasn’t as good as expected. . Basically just a pavlova. Will try their signature dessert next time.
Everything was good, hard to fault a first class venue like this
living the dream! Wonderful food, service, facilities, ambience. highly recommended and I will be back.
We decided to jump straight in to the $69 banquet, because, as we were first-timers and the entire menu sounded so delicious, it seemed easier to let the kitchen do all of the hard work!
Everything about the experience was a delicious, triumphant pleasure, but particular shout out to the lobster roll, and the *sumptuous*, RIDICULOUSLY good peanut-butter parfait.
Service was most efficient.
Highly, highly recommended.
Fabulous food and service. Great place to go with friends or family
Amazing! Food and service was outstanding. Highly recommend a spot at the bar if one is available.
Great food in a lively atmosphere
Always on our list when we visit Melbourne. This visit was not quite as outstanding as previous times but still a great dining experience. We had the Marron special which we thought wasn't that fabulous.
The staff were amazingly attentive and friendly.
I had the $69 buffet and I’m not much of a seafood consumer, so maybe my point of view is a bit skewed, but would have liked more variety of dishes. All the dishes were delicious. My only gripe was the main fish dish of snapper I believe it had too many bones you couldn’t see because the room was so dark. On such a tiny fish, it was too tricky to deal with. I know you kind of fork off the fish and it breaks away, but quite a few still get through.
I particularly enjoyed the chicken salad, chicken and prawn dumplings and the lobster roll.
The cocktail with pineapple was also very good. Not too sweet and quite strong.
Lovely evening anyway. Cheers!
Unfortunately I think Supernormal is trading on it's previous reputation - the service yesterday was terrible, we had to ask every single time for our wine to be topped up and all the food arrived at once event though they asked us if we had any time pressure, which we didn't, and then they had to take some of it back to the kitchen. When we were ready for it the same plates came back and were not hot enough so they were not freshly made, they just sat around waiting for us. I have been previously but some time ago and loved it, this time I was very disappointed that I took a friend there who had not been and she was far from impressed. There were plenty of staff but noone seemed to have a particular section they were looking after, so we had to keep waving at passing waiters to get any attention. Not sure I will be back.
First half of service was incredibly slow. Food throughout was slow. Drinks ordered, slow delivery. Drinks ordered, not delivered. Not up to your usual level.
Seated in the bar section right in front of the kitchen was fantastic! We went early on a Saturday so it wasn’t particularly busy, the food was excellent and the service lovely also. It was great to watch the staff and experience the restaurant during non peak. Highly recommend!
Brilliant food , really good service and the desert was a great finish- outstanding
Food was exceptional, atmosphere fantastic. Glad we got there before the big crowd. Little hidden from the street, walked straight past it initially.
Read Above - No because the service in the restaurant does not reflect the food. It was average.
I was not asked if I would like another drink. Not good enough.
If I go to one of the best restaurants, I expect the best service especially since I came for lunch with my son at 11.30 at not a busy time, and it was to celebrate my birthday.
The food and service were great, we sat at the bar which was very comfortable with a good view of everything. Highly recommended.
The food is fresh and delicious. I loved their yuzu and cinnamon mocktail (as I couldn't have the cocktails because of the Dry July challenge). They also cater to gluten-free diners and people who can only eat FODMAP-friendly foods. Would recommend and definitely going back!
Was good experience , portion size was bit smaller than the first time quality was good recipe has been changed since been before
It. Was. Really. Really. Good!
The food was unbelievably scrumptious. The flavours and textures were incredible. Wait staff were really attentive and helpful, but not over-bearing. We live in Sydney, and it's worth flying to Melbourne just to eat at Supernormal! Thanks for a superb lunch.
A supercool take on modern Asian cuisine - new tastes and sensations! Excellent attentive service - try the cocktails. Only slight issue was lighting level at our table - I like to see the colours and textures of the food I'm eating - mood lighting is nice for a more social setting.
Already recommended to others! Food delicious and service spot on. For a big room, noise level surprisingly good. Will definitely return
Lovely lunch with friends. The food was amazing and as we are currently Dry July also enjoyed the mocktails. Good to know that you can book for lunch as the wait times are quite long in the evenings
Good service, over priced, noisy environment,a big fuss over nothing special. Felt l had to eat fast so the waiters can get the empty plates.
My table and other patrons next to us saw a mouse crawling on the wall skirt. Tried to call a waiter to show the mouse but couldn't get any of their attention in time. Total 5 people saw this mouse from two separate table.
Great banquet. A wonderful journey of spectacular tastes and textures. Leaving this happy, satisfied diner, Superfull.
