Supernormal Canteen - St Kilda
Think casual good-times in a distinctly Tokyo setting while the delicious scent of yakitori smoke fills the air. The relaxed and versatile menu lends itself well to a quick snack or party pit-stop, or you can go all out and build a feast that might hero dumplings, cup noodles and fried school prawns alongside a selection of sticks (yakitori) and of course, the New England Lobster Roll.
Lunch on Fridays and Sundays from 12.00pm-11.00pm
Please get in touch with our events team to chat further about your plans.
For groups of 8 or more, we serve a flexible and fun banquet menu - priced at $65 per person featuring the New England Lobster Roll.
Parties of less than 8 guests are welcome to dine from the a la carte menu, or opt for the banquet menu.
Offers a flat rate of $8 for entry after 5:00pm

This place was good, but nothing outstanding. I don’t plan on going back, nor will I be recommending this to my friends. Why accept good in a city with amazing food and wine venues?
Beyond the quality of the food, we ordered the banquet, and the staff paid no attention to how slowly we were eating, with at one stage having 6 out of the 7 or 8 dishes out in front of us. Felt like we were being rushed out. Not fun.
Great place, incredible food, amazing staff... highly recommend!
A good spot for lunch or dinner. Dan Dan noodles were nothing special (wouldn’t order again) but everything else was good - asparagus, dumplings (yum!) and fried chicken set - amazing wings!
Biggest disappointment was how expensive the sparkling wines were - c $85 for the cheapest bottle (unless you want Prosecco, which we didn’t). There should be an option around $60. And glasses at less than $26!
First time there. Very good and I will definitely go again. Very interesting food flavours and combinations. Bit noisy but ok.
Great set menu, great cocktails. Lobster roll is a classic and can’t be beaten. Enjoyed all the dishes and food came timely and was all delicious. Excellent service, we sat at the bar. Cosy, comfortable. Can’t wait to return.
Slow service, drinks took too long. Forgot our bottle of wine. Ten minutes after we weee seated we had to ask for water. Our first course came out and we still didn’t get our drinks. Hostess was so slow at making drinks. Food didn’t have the “wow” factor I was expecting!
Loved the food and the service was excellent. Make sure you have the lobster roll.
Food was mediocre and overpriced for what it was! $5 for a bowl of white rice and it was served cold and undercooked!
Great food but the service was a bit random. Very slow with our drinks but still had a great time. The big table at the back is too deep so you feel very far from people sitting opposite you.
Another very satisfying visit. Food first class & reasonably priced.
I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, the food, the company. I even liked the OpenTable app. It was a birthday party for my friends and the restaurant recognised that. The spell checker wanted to changed the"s" in recognised to a "z" ..hmmm - I took photos but haven't downloaded them from my camera. Other than that thanks from a bunch of locals!
Really delicious food, great atmosphere, pleasant staff and a great Marguerita- well worth the visit- loved not having to order- their selection was really good.
Way too salty, vinegar in most meals, poor taste, too noisy
We ordered the banquet. Unfortunately no one in our group liked either main that came with it.
Service was good & so were the starters.
Impressed some UK visitors, good atmosphere, interesting food options and all of us enjoyed the food.
Options were good but would like a few more vegetarian share dishes to make it easier to have a range to share for mixed parties.
Sat at the bar and had excellent service, was recommended good wine. View from the bar was fun
The waitress we had was fantastic, she made us feel comfortable, relaxed and we really enjoyed our night. She made some fantastic recommendations on food and made wonderful cocktails. Will be back for sure.
Brilliant food; as good as the Flinders Lane spot. It's a tragedy that it will close when Andrew manages to sell the location: St Kilda deserves the McConnell touch!
It was definitely not value for money. With the price I was expecting more, but sadly it was not delivered.
Even the beer wasn’t poured properly!
The ambience was lovely, the staff were okay. They were really polite and followed all of the sequences of service, but there was no personality and no vibe. Just flat.
The food is great, been here many times. The staff are usually fabulous. Not this time. Apparently when you book a table on the website - it no longer means a table booking - if you are a booking and really want a table - you are expected to over look look the fact that the booking form says 'book a table' and send the a note the restaurant. Otherwise you could be on a stool, in the window or in the pre drinks area, not at a table!
Such lovely staff, very helpful with my allergies and so kind to our disabled daughter.
Super friendly service and amazing food. A little bit expensive considering the serving size, but was worth it for a nice occasion!
The sister restaurant of Supernormal and I was pleasantly surprised. The same great quality of food and service and a definite plus that so many of my favourite supernormal dishes were also on offer at this location.
Delicious food and amazing customer service! We had a great night. Loved the mushroom noodles, prawn dumplings and the desserts.
Great night thanks very much. Delicious food. I went with two non-vegetarians and we had all vegetarian options and they loved it too. They couldn’t believe vegetarian food could be so delicious!
Yummy food and margarita, spot on flavours, quality ingredients!
2nd time here. Can get quite noisy and crowded. Although a bit pricey and wouldn't be a regular hang out, all the food is AMAZING and worth the visit for treat or special occasion.
The food was so delicious! We will be back. Highly recommended.
Supernormal continues to deliver with innovative food and flavours whilst retaining some stalwarts like the lobster roll. The vegetarian options are delightful and the range of flavours and quality of food is outstanding. The service from staff is patchy however. On the week night we ate there, despite the restaurant not being full, it took considerable time to get waiters' attention and procure drinks and refills. Given that service is very pared down (with no change of plates between courses, no linen and self serve cutlery), one would expect more from the floor staff.
A fun evening spent with great friends. Would highly recommend this restaurant. The mishap with dessert was fixed in an instant and a delicious sticky was offered as an apology despite them not needing to apologise at all. The staff are knowledgeable and friendly. Supernormal outside the city... Who would've thought!
Really good food. A great place to have a group dinner. The lobster rolls are a very welcome echo of golden fields
Great taste sensations- highly recommend this fab casual canteen
Great experience, the team are pleasant and made eating the amazing food all the more enjoyable. Be sure to have the lobster rolls, and the peanut dessert option. Can't wait to go back.
Amazing food. Would have appreciated being told when booking that we would be sat at the bar, would not have proceeded if we'd known given it was a special occasion and I have an injury which makes sitting on a bar stool difficult. Service was hit and miss, took a few attempts to wave someone down to order drinks which is surprising given we were actually sitting at the bar.
Everything was flawless. Food came out quick, immaculate service, A+ menu. Cant fault it.
Everything delicious but some portions were too small
I really enjoyed my meal at Supernormal Canteen early last Saturday evening before a hysterical evening watching The Kranksy Sisters at the nearby Alex Theatre.
At Supernormal Canteen, Andrew McConnell has woven his magic again. The service and food were excellent. Loved the dish of Cucumber, dashi & ogonori and the Baby turnips, furikake & miso. Hooray for making cucumber and turnips the hero of dishes!
We sat in the window which was great. We thought it was way too loud further into the restaurant, and dark (I heard someone say 'I can't read the menu the light is so low') ....so I know if I book again I'll book that window spot!
Fab food and atmosphere
We enjoyed all the flavours. I don’t eat meat so the fish was great. A few more veggie options would be good.
I ordered the small fish shape dessert for a friends bday and was a little disappointed. Maybe I should have clarified what this was before.
Overall wonderful and will be back
Awesome casual dining. The yakitori was delicious, crab salad was amazing and lamb main was delicious.
