I can not put the words to paper over the exquisite time I had with my Partner enjoying the food which was amazing and the selection wines is great as well, service is outstanding and Vanessa is the perfect hostess, the Chef amazing but you will have to try and form your own opinion, ambiance is very inviting

All our friends spoke of their Fig Tree dining experience, naturally we visited them first. However we are so glad to also have had the opportunity to experience Sunset. The food was divine. From the very first course we knew we were about to experience an evening that will always be special and all other degustations need to live up to. We have told all our friends and shown photos of the sunset views and food. They are all jealous and look forward to visiting on there next trip to KI. This is a must do experience for every visitor to KI!

Wow! What a find! Who would have thought we’d find gourmet food in a stunning location like this! And all for what was actually a decent price. As we booked for a Saturday night we had the fixed price multi-course menu. How many courses? Not sure. It was advertised variously as 5 or 7, but it had to be at least nine! All delicious (but a shout-out to the chef on the melt-in-your-mouth beef cheeks). Unpretentious service topped it off. If we didn’t live 2000km away we’d be back. A must do as a special occasion if you’re on KI.

The food was incredible. More outside seating overlooking the ocean is required so more people can take in the incredible views. The only criticism we had was on your website there is a cocktail menu but not available on the in house menu. When we asked for a cocktail it was reluctantly made. The pricing on the cocktail list needs to be reviewed as they're quite expensive in comparison to other restaurants making the same ones.

Our second visit to this wonderful restaurant. Just a little windy and fresh outside so unable to fully enjoy this lovely dining experience which is enhanced by the outdoor setting and uninterrupted views. Still a beautiful meal with attentive service and relaxed ambience. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

The views were sensational. The track up to the restaurant needs improvement would only take 4wd up the track. The food was amazing and restaurant could be 5 star if they improved a few things like- The service wasn't amazing the waiter seemed in a rush, we asked for a menu and she said they only have a few, cutlery was just dumped on the table, we had to sit on a joined table, all our meals came out on a share plate, meals were tiny, we had to go ask to order more wine. They were very accommodating to dietary requirements, and very knologable about the food and how it was cooked.

We both had the scallop entree and both of us thought it was delicious.My partner had the swordfish for mains and thought it was very good but I had the beef cheeks and thought they would have been cooked to a more traditional recipe and found some of the meat quite dry. The custard deserts were great and so were the staff and views.

Sunset is a brilliant restaurant - the equal of the better capital city restaurants. Plus you look out over the picturesque American Beach. The menu provided a short and longer degustation type choice. We went for the longer form with a couple of replacements for my wife who doesn’t eat oysters or sashimi. The waitress easily handled the variations. The wine list is good but not overly KI local. The restaurant is on a hillside between Penneshaw and American river.

Fantastic venue with great food and service, so nice to have on Kangaroo Island. The view is spectacular of the bay and a lovely sunset thrown in. This restaurant would be a hit and very popular anywhere. Very good value for money with creative and fabulous menu - love the degustation. Will return regularly.

Hello We had a lovely night but the two dishes we thought we too salty were the beef and the whiting; otherwise, we loved every morsel. Our favourites were the duck, oyster and dessert. Such a beautiful venue and the sun set didn't disappoint. However, we felt like our seating was not intimate - huge table for just two - and there was no flower, no candle, no art around the walls, bare blackboards (5 bare and 2 written on unprofessionally). Looking around at the other venues on KI there is a little more attention to detail. Also, we were a little surprised 2 staff were not wearing masks....

Gorgeous setting, even had a couple of kangaroos hop by as we were dining outside watching the beautiful sunset. The restaurant struggled with staff issues, perhaps covid related and we were told the bartender was absent so couldn't make the expresso Martini we ordered and they ran out of oysters that were on the menu. Strange mix of dishes on the huge $85 , "Feed Me Menu", including beef cheeks during summer and replaced the missing oysters with beef tartare. Way too many dishes, so don't eat for a day before you go! Waitresses were lovely and clearly very busy. Overall, would recommend to go but choose from the 3 course standard menu.
