We loved sunset diner. Yummy food and great value
No service. You order online, no too up of water bottles, staff drop off meals, don’t scan tables next door to see if plates need collecting. Staff are young and inexperienced but not being trained by an experienced manager.
Food is great but expensive for what you get. I am not keen on the ordering system and pay as you go, would be nice for someone to actually take your order especially for the cost. Staff are inexperienced. Nice restaurant but I'd expect better service.
Great burgers. Service was friendly and accommodating. They really aimed to please as they felt our order was running late( not late in my book) and suceeded . Will definitely go back,
Great food, but unfortunately on this occasion we had to wait 50 mins for our food due to staff shortages.
Food and ambiance was great. My only reason why service is one star less is because the kids meals came last. In actual fact all our meals came at different times, in the space of around 15 mins.
Great ambience and decor and the food was filling and had solid flavours for the most part, even though the burgers look deceptively small for their price point - would be great if they came with some sides. The only disappointing dishes were the truffle fries (underseasoned and really oily) and the chicken on my Butter Chicken special burger was a little overcooked.
Delicious burgers and nice drinks list. Will be back :)
great service and food! nice relaxed atmosphere with open seating plan
Great spot, quick service and tasty food. The staff are always super friendly and nice
Burgers and salads are incredible. Desert is amazing.
Chips came out cold and onion rings are mostly just batter.
The Sunset Diner was an amazing place to go to for dinner. The food was good and the staff accommodating. Even after I messed up my order they stayed kind and helpful and made the experience amazing.
The booking was easy and the staff SO helpful!!
Gorgeous spot and the food was Yum!
Great place to for family dinner - kids can run around whilst the parents relax and have a glass of wine
Had my brother, sister in law and my 7 year old nephew with me. It was lovely near the kids play area. Thank you.
I loved it, we are planning on having my little girl 9th Birthday there in may
Thanks
Waited an hour for our food.
Waiting staff were disinterested in listening to our queries regarding the wait for food.
When food arrived the fries were cold.
There were miner birds flying around inside the restaurant, so gross.
The staff once again did not try to usher the birds out.
We will never dine here again
The food was good but not sure who the restaurant is targeting. Felt like expensive fast food. Bright lights, no music not much atmosphere. Maybe good for teenagers.
Beef 🍔 are outstanding and the pick. New ordering system means you don’t need to leave your table. The staff are friendly and helpful
Staff didn’t know what table was what
Slow service by kids who have attitude (typical of entitled teenagers of that area - I reside in the area, we're very familiar with it), unwilling to be helpful - we were seated initially at a table in between 2 big, noisy party groups - we received no service for 20 minutes from the moment we sat down, couldn't get anyone's attention and couldn't hear ourselves think, so we got up and moved table to a quieter area, which appeared to be reserved for a later seating. There were lots of empty tables so we figured it wouldn't be too hard to shuffle bookings, the service person was not happy about our move - which is fair enough - but she seemed to take it personally and kept passively-aggressively mentioning it all night and actually said 'well, in future, don't do that' ... I thought it was a bit presumptuous of her that we'd actually WANT to come back ... LOL. Food was OK, not the best burgers we've had, everything was a little tasteless, needed salt or something, but it wasn't overly expensive which was a nice surprise - the burgers don't come with fries, they are extra at $4 per serve, but still, we thought it was good value. However i must say, the desserts were amazing - the brownie, the oreo sunday and omg the pecan pie was to die for. Worth a 'dessert' stop if they stay open 'late' enough. Decor is spot on, modern art deco, it reminded us of American old-school diners we've experienced.
Great burgers, sides, friendly service. Will be back.
The service could be better. But food and ambiance is really good.
This is our 3 rd time there. There is room for improvement in terms of service. We got the wrong chips once. Then another time we got the starters after the mains. And we have been asked soooo many times if we are done with our food although we are sort of still going...
In general OK main meals quite good , however the ice cream machine (too make sundaes) wasn't working which is sort of like a hamburger joint running out of mince. Hopefully machine is fixed for the next visit, not sure who was managing this side of the operation.
Great tasting food. Would be nice if chips came with the main meal; it otherwsie makes it a little expensive for what you get. A fun night.
Nice place for a casual Sunday lunch. Booth was comfy and cosy for 6. Kids can come and go to the playground nearby..
Sunset Diner food was excellent. Ordering at the bar and floor staff simply used to collect empty plates detracted from the experience. There was no real ability to see what was available for dessert by talking to the staff as it meant another trip to the bar. We ended up with 1 trip to the bar for drinks, then another for entrees, then another for main meal. All fine and a first world problem but if you are at a diner you expect staff to take the order. They are also doing themselves out of money as we would have ordered more via floor staff if it was possible. So if you are OK with trips to the bar to order food, this is a great option rather than the pub.
Great location and atmosphere
I had a gf bun with my burger. Bun was dry, perhaps extra toasting required as gf usually not the best.
Will go back to try the salads
Great local burger spot. Simple enough menu very helpful staff
It's in an excellent position and the decor is great. The atmosphere is pretty good and service was good, we received our meals pretty quickly and drinks came out within minutes of ordering.
Great place for a casual lunch or drink, best location in lane cove, food tasty and reasonably priced, atmosphere friendly and easy going.
Menu needs more vegetarian and vegan options.I congratulate owners on hiring local youngsters as staff, they were all very accommodating.
Happy to support this fun new venue. Given the percentage of families visiting with kids I would recommend not forgetting the little customers. The kids fish and chips was a miss I think. It comes as a massive chunk of Barra wrapped in crispy batter which was more suited to an adult - this is too hard to eat and the flavour isn’t kid friendly either. Even adults like a better batter to fish ratio. Other than that, the Sunset Diner made pretty sensational first impression and we will be back to explore the menu.
Really good to have a quality Burger Diner in Lane Cove. Sunset Diner is just that. Good ambience and the food quality is great. Finally somewhere that has a coffee shake on the menu! Great burgers, great shakes, and licensed! Recommend.
Loved it! Staff on concierge could be more helpful in letting diners know where you need to order and how it works as we were shown our table and just left sitting there unsure we needed to go up and order. Apart from that it was a great night out. Food & vibe were amazing. Good cocktails too!
REALLY needs table service. Hoping that this is a covid thing.
They need to work on the ordering procedure; so many staff around but you need to queue up to one terminal every time you want to order a drink or food; found this annoying getting up and waiting 10min to order every time I wanted another drink. Need more terminals or an app ordering tool
I suggest u have table numbers to assist the wait staff with the delivery of orders - it was so hot and the doors were not open - these should be opened thanks
The entrance is confusing and poorly designed. I was ignored by a employee while waiting to be seated. The wine was warm, we were told they didn’t have any chilled bottles, but it was replaced with another wine that had been chilled. The food is really great, although I think when you order a burger for $16 it should come with fries.
They should do table service. I don’t like having to lineup each time you want to order
