Did not enjoy sharing a long communal table as we were in between 2 groups of diners and one side was rather loud. Also the waiter made an uncalled for remark when he came back with the bill which was processed on an Amex card and thought my friend wanted to pay with a visa instead because he saw her Visa on the table. In actual fact she was trying to set up her Ola app on her mobile to call a cab back to her hotel.

Disappointing. We were very excited for our dinner with Sunda as my partner had been several months ago when it first opened and was very impressed. We booked it for when family was visiting and did the chefs menu for $80. The food itself was very tasty and the setting is lovely, but it is simply not worth the money . We have been to several restaurants in Melbourne and had many degustations for the same or lower prices, but have never left so hungry and feeling exploited. The most disappointing part was after spending around $120 PER PERSON, our chefs table menu only included one very SMALL dessert (scoop of ice cream) for the whole table to SHARE (one plate for 3 of us). I would be disappointed if i went somewhere that cost $40 and they did that. It was embarrassing to take my family there and honestly insulting to the person paying. This is in addition to the $80 menu not including the signature dish of Vegemite roti that used to be included (when vegemite and bread is the most inexpensive special). Of 3 cocktails on offer, they were also somehow out of one by 6:30 (although they were able to make most classic drinks). We were so shocked at the lack of respect in daring to give so little for that price and charging for extras that we did not say anything but we will not return (cancelling a booking we had for other friends in the future). I would skip Sunda and go to somewhere else, Melbourne is full of much better options that will appreciate your time and money far more.

What a great find. At first, choosing it for convenience to where we were staying but now having been, I'd travel across the city to go again, perhaps more than that. Very creative and delicious food...every single dish. Communal tables which works well for planning what you want to order the next time. Solid professional but typically friendly service added to an overall fantastic meal.

Really lovely experience, server was an absolutely gem and made the experience really special, talked us through everything and you could tell he really cared about the food. Food was amazing, quite rich in general but some really interesting flavours. Dying to go back and tick off what I never got to try.

Fantastic food. The roti and vegemite curry really is as good as people say. The service was a tad slow to begin with but it did improve and we enjoyed ourselves.

No a fan of the set time for seating allocation. It felt rushed. I acknowledge we were 20 mins late for our seating time but regardless 2 hours is not enough time to relax and take in the flavours of the food etc

We were there for the first time. The food was beautiful and service was great too. The atmosphere was vibrant too. Only con was the seating. We were seated at one of the long table and was too close to the next seat. I could hear their conversion a lot without interestion. That means they can too...

Interesting and tasty food with good service and a complimentary wine list. Good service and decor.
Only downside is that you are seated far too close to other diners on a long table. Not enough privacy for an intimate dining experience and quite hard to hear your dinner date.

Always a wonderful experience at Sunda. The food is destined to become a Melbourne icon and the service is consistently the best I've experienced. There is a reason people continue to go to Sunda- book your table advance so that you don't miss out, but they will always try to fit you in.

The experience was underwhelming and some of the staff weren't very attentive. I had a few dietary requirements (contacted the restaurant in advance to allow ample planning etc) however the meals felt like they were missing elements rather than a different / adapted version. My guest really wanted to order the Vegemite curry however it was sold out in the first sitting - very disappointing and strange for a Saturday night.

A bit of a fusion gem, hidden in a Chinatown alley. Suda highlights Indian and Malaysian flavours with western flair. Take my recommendation and go for the chefs menu. Take everyone else’s recommendation and order the roti with vegemite (off menu, on request).

Always superb! The ‘not to be missed’ dishes are otak-otak and roti with vegemite curry. Highly recommend the degustation menu and matching wines ... never disappoints. When is the cookbook coming out?!

We had the Chef's selection and every single dish was a stand-alone highlight. Service was excellent, friendly, efficient and unobtrusive. Special mention to the Sunda 'pav', can't wait to go back and eat through the entire menu

5 out of 5. Went there for a girlfriends 40th and we were seated upstairs which was perfect. Needless to say we were the last to leave at midnight as everything about the restaurant was fantastic. The food, wine list, service and ambience. All brilliant, just make sure you get your roti bread order in quickly as they run out!!

For entré we had the pie tea, the rendang pie and the roti; the pie tea had an amazing balance in flavour tucked into a delicate crispy pastry however, my only complaints are that you only get one which is the size of a small mini cupcake. The rendang pie itself appeared underwhelming and the flavours did the job however, unfortunately wasn't something I'd write home about (WARNING: Although it did have a decent chilli kick). The roti was the absolute highlight of the entire meal for me. Made to order, fresh and golden crispy in the shape of a beautiful rose spiral. Matched with the vegemite curry dip was phenomenal (I hate vegemite mind you)
For mains, we ordered the Wagyu steak and noodles; the Wagyu steak was prepared and cooked to absolute perfection. Beautifully pink and melted in the mouth (literally). The noodles had a great flavour paired with crispy chicken crackling (can't go wrong there) was amazing however, eating a bowl full had me dripping like I had just finished a workout so WARNING: very spicy. Perfect for chilli hunters.
The waitress which served us was very friendly and accommodating, also provided us with insight into the menu. All in all, I would definitely be coming back next time I'm in Melbourne. 9.5/10 in my books.

Each dish was delicious and full of flavour. Our only criticism was the dessert (we had the pav) which my partner thought was too chocolatey for the rest of the dishes... something lighter and fruitier would have been great (either of the other items on the menu in fact) and I hate coffee, so it wasn't my cup of tea at all. However, it certainly didn't ruin our enjoyment of a wonderful meal. We'll be back.

It was a true dining experience worth a revisit to try the dishes that we didn’t have.Clever use of space with the industrial building site theme was effective with emphasis on the lighting focusing on the food Service was attentive without being intrusive Sitting at the bar gave us the opportunity to see the staff working their magic with pride and attention to detail Every dish was an excellent attractive surprise with no exceptions
