Influenced by the bold flavours of South East Asia, Sunda’s menu will see the more daring and unexpected elements of Indonesian, Malaysian and Vietnamese cuisine brought together - using lesser known ingredients and techniques.
Sunda _ offers both an a la carte and set menu with the option for matched beverages.
Very accommodating, delicious food, quite pricey but good for a special occasion!
Spectacular food, really the best meal we’ve had in Sydney or Melbourne...and we’ve been to all the big name spots. Very friendly service and just delicious food. Highly recommend!
We had the 'degustation' set menu. The food at Sunda was innonvative but I found it to be too intense in flavours, at times too salty and strong. Really needed some plain rice or something refreshing like a salad or extra vegetables to go with the items. Something to cut through the strong salty flavours. The best dish we enjoyed was the dessert. May be it was refreshing. The service was good and the atmosphere was nice. I would like to see the dishes on the menu to be a bit more balanced in salty, spicy and rich with some refreshing acidic flavours.
The food was unique . Portion size was a bit small. The service was excellent. The voice level was moderate . The ambience was a bit of a let down
Amazing food & experience.
Excellent service and interesting interior design. Ask them why it looks the way it does, for a fun conversation starter.
Delightful and delicious.
Each dish was something new to me and I loved it all.
great evening of delicious food, wine and hospitality. thanks
We were trying to have a quick meal prior to Harry Potter. Sunda_ were very accommodating. They contacted me before hand to advise that it would be tight, but they would do their best, which they did. The food is innovative and delicious. The share plate concept works really well.
Love how the restaurant set up, modern and friendly. The cocktails are way too simple and over priced. The food was good, but just found that the favour profile are actually quite similar on most of the dishes that I ordered.
Great food, atmosphere and service! Great fit out.
Second time at Sunda, and still loved it! Can't go past the buttermilk roti with Vegemite curry!
Service is good but not warm. Food is average comparing to the best modern Asian fusion restaurants.
Loved It!! What an outstanding experience. A very industrial feel that did not impact negatively on the noise level. The quality and presentation of the food was amazing. There were perfectly timed pauses between courses and the service was highly efficient. We started with the Vegemite Roti, as instructed by my daughter, after which I decided that sharing it with 2 others was a shame so I secretly planned to order my own for dessert. However, after each dish awoke our tastebuds to those flavourful sensations it became apparent that my plan had been sabotaged... there was no chance of squeezing in a sneak roti!...So we will have to fly back for a second visit unless you plan to open one in Sydney..hmmm such a wonderful thought.
Definitely had to try this place as it was recommended by a lot of people! Service was great and the food was absolutely delicious!
Dinner at Sunda exceeded all expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed every dish that we ordered however the stand out dishes were definitely the vegemite curry roti (ingenious), and the "Otak otak" which is a spanner crab curry in parfait form. A must visit when in Melbourne.
Delicious food in cool location
The best meal I’ve had in years - creative unique flavours and lovely service!
second visit just as good and my friends enjoyed it immensely also
Service was above and beyond lovely.
Highlight was def the vegemite roti and the
cinnamon yuzu gin! The only thing I would suggest, flavours are quite rich, would be
great if there were some fresh sides to go with all the
amazing flavours so that I can fit dessert next time!
Thanks again! The waiter we had was SO SO lovely!
Very good value for food, i will come back again and try the rest of the food.
AMAZING! gluten free and alcohol free selection was absolutely wonderful! Literally cannot fault this restaurant. I was a little cold but I doubt it was any fault of Sunda's.
The food is excellent and service great. But they were playing rando 90s pop hits for the music and it just didn’t work. Bounced from J Lo to Hanson and everything in between.
Great experience, delicious food and outstanding service! I will be back!! Xx
Sunda turns an urban side street construction site into one of melbournes newer and better restaurants. Chef Khanh does an amazing job fusing Asian and Australian flavours. The roti is a must get. The front of house brings a casual, fun but also formal vibe to the table. Two big tables span the restaurant with an open kitchen, just like if you were eating a family meal at home. Be sure to get a seat with the view of the kitchen so you can see how hard the team works. Thank you so much Sunda team. The experience was amazing.
Second time here everything was great except for the noodle and prawn special. Prawns were over cooked which let down the dish. Overall a great time on the whole!
The restaurant’s heater was broken on the coldest night of the year. The restaurant did not call us to let us know to dress warmly or reschedule. There was no attempt to provide temporary heating and no offer of anything as compensation - we shivered throughout the meal.
Amazing food. Unusual ingredients put together to create a taste sensation. The vegemite roti is to die for. I didn’t expect it to taste so good! The fit out of the restaurant is really clever.
A fantastic dinner in a great environment. Every dish that arrived from the kitchen was a knock-out.
with respect, pls make sure your staff use mints and deodorant where necessary.
Amazing food, great service, super knowledgeable staff! Everything was perfect. The
Khan and his team are keeping bellies content. Loved the use of native ingredients.
I made a booking for 2 as there was no comments section to add a comment about requiring a high chair. No one called to confirm. There was only SMS confirmation and that provided no restaurant number to call. We arrived and were told the restaurant was fully booked so my toddler had to share a seat with me at the communal table. The two seats next to us were empty the entire meal and we were never asked whether we wanted to move my toddler to the other seat. We ordered 20 minutes after we arrived and were rushed repeatedly throughout our meal to finish at 8pm (our booking was 615pm), even though the food came out slow. We were given less than half an hour to finish most of our meal (2 mains, 1 rice and 1 noodle) and we were never asked whether we wanted to order dessert. The staff also never informed us of the two hour seating at the beginning of the meal, we were just rushed at the end. No matter how good the food was, a few too many spicy dishes in my opinion even though I love spice! The staff were never accommodating. They did not suggest us to order less so we could fit in dessert and we were squished at the end of one of the communal tables that was not full the entire meal.
Great experience. Every course was a winner and service was excellent. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
Lovely dinner with Mum. We sat at the bar. The staff were very attentive and food was terrific
Great vibe, food is good. Do away with asking for a tip - this isn’t America.
The buttermilk roti and honeycomb cake are a must here 👌🏻
Fantastic service and food. Would highly recommend!
Food and service was excellent. Menu was hard to discern but staff assisted very well. However, music was too loud and feel it didn’t fit with the rest of the venue
Would go back though and would recommend
Exceptional food with great ambiance. Burst of flavors for each dish we had. Loved the sharing plates paired with natural wine! Will definitely be back.
Beautifully nuanced menu, great wine list, and helpful service in a fabulously funky space. A must next time I’m in Melbourne, and have already recommended to friends.
