Sugar Factory - Chicago River North
Really sad to see the menu changes since the last time we had been here. We traveled from Michigan with this being our favorite place to eat. But after we started looking at the menu we were really upset to see our favorite potatoes gone and the buffalo chicken egg rolls changed. Not sure if we’ll be going back.
My sever Brian was very rude my food wasn’t made right I had to ask for extra things I paid for.
It was cold in the dining area and the restrooms. Drinks without alcohol are over priced. Chicken tenders looked like fish strips! Nasty!
Such a fun place to go and great food!
The idea is fun, and when we visited 2 years ago it was an enjoyable experience. This time felt like just an expense. Broken light fixtures, broken decor, mediocre service at best with a mandatory 20% gratuity. Our kids had fun because of the bubbly goblet drink and colorful rainbow sliders; from this adult perspective, it was very "meh" and not worth the price.
Great spot with a Urumqi atmosphere
Service was horrible. Food and drinks were overpriced. This was our fourth visit to this location. First trip we stumbled acrossed this restaurant while walking around in Chicago. Service was amazing and we loved the atmosphere and fun drinks. Visit after didn’t meet expectations and last two visits got worse. We had to wait 20 minutes after our reservation time staff at front wasn’t very friendly. Server was nice however once our food was delivered he was no where to be found. I had to ask another person walking by for condiments we initially ordered with the food. Felt food prices went up and quality decreased since our last visit. Nobody ever came by to ask if we needed anything or even offer another drink. I had to ask for our bill. Our empty food plates sat on table and were never removed. Typically we would have had another round of drinks and talked after dinner but at that point we were staring at stacks of empty plates and just ready to leave. We won’t be back on our next visit to Chicago.
This is a tourist trap. If you want to watch table after table on devices and snapping selfies this is your spot. 3 beers on the menu and 100 dollar desserts. This is a never again for my family.
Diamond was our server she was traffic the whole family enjoyed the experience. Fun time and fun atmosphere.
Food is not good no flavor. Music is extremely loud food is way overpriced n not big portions.
Came in for my son birthday. The food was not bad. The service took so long with the drinks. Got dessert knowing it was my sons birthday didn’t come out with a candle I thought we had to get the $100 dessert but then we seen other Sundays coming out with candles. When I went to change my daughter they didn’t have any hand towels so I see teammates leaving without drying hands after using the restroom. Then I told a supervisor they says so sorry we will get right on it and went back to talking. It felt like a bunch of kid working here. Sad cause I could be a really cool spot they just need a better upscale staff and put guest experience first. Not just go with the whole we are a chain restaurant.
Check in clerk had a bit of an attitude but other staff was spectacular!!
I think on this day I got a bad server. He was not attentive to our table. We had to ask other servers for silverware, napkins and other things throughout our time there. My guests enjoyed their meal and drinks but mine was tasteless and had to send my steak back. After I received my check and to think what I should tip my horrible server I went to the washroom which was disgusting. So I excited not using the facility. Upon returning to the table I noticed the server picked up my receipt without me adding a tip or signing my total amount. I was disappointed in this location because I love Sugar Factory. While I didn't enjoy myself I do recommended the experience. The many drink and dessert combinations are worth the stop.
Are good was cold . Burger buns were stale . The doughnuts and cookies on the milkshakes were hard. My salad was wilted. Our server was so nice and he was the only enjoyable moment. Everything is SO over priced , especially for what you get . There should be kid bowl drinks also . To pricey for what kids actually consume .
We visited SF for my daughter’s birthday and invited a large group. When we first arrived and were seated, we were greeted by 3 wait staff. Initially, they were very attentive. However, service began to break down miserably as the restaurant became more crowded. The wait to receive drinks was explained as part of the process of having specialized drinks. The drinks came out with the food and then we had to search for our servers. An order was incorrect and took an even longer time to correct and that guest had to take the meal home. We sat another 20 minutes or so before searching for wait staff to clear the table and bring boxes so we can sing happy birthday at a clutter-free table. Once boxes were given, we had to request bags when other tables were noticeably provided with bags with they received their boxes. There was a complete lack of attention, communication, and care after we received our meals and I was disappointed and embarrassed to have my guests endure. We will not patronize SF Chicago again.
My son, whose birthday it was, went to the bathroom. After he was in there for a while, we had to go check on him. The poor kid had no toilet paper, and even tried sneaking over to another stall which was probably so embarrassing. No toilet paper in there also. By the time my husband came in my son was just sitting there, didn’t know what to do. My husband checked all stalls- no toilet paper anywhere so he had to leave to go ask someone. Also, my glass was dirty. How are you gonna charge as much as you do for everything and you can’t even take care of the most basic restaurant skills? Also, food was just subpar. Super disappointed
Cute place- pricey for what you get.
The cocktails and food was delicious! The place setting really brings out the inner child of yourself. Service was fast and great. Definitely coming back!
Nice for a birthday. One time visit. Service 👎
This establishment was wonderful and totally kid friendly. My daughter enjoyed her 4th birthday celebration here. She said it was the best birthday ever!
The food was tasty, it was over priced and they don't give complimentary desserts when celebrating something
I loved everything about it. I drove nearly three hours away to keep this reservation. The only thing I disliked was the extra service fee for the size of the party.
Had a fabulous time for our bdays. Everything is overpriced but it was worth the experience.
Wait Service was very slow and didn’t come around often - never cleared plates
Birthday! I would have appreciated a desser included for the birthday...but there was nothing.
Nice food was good I wanted to sit in the back but they wouldn’t let us it was my Birthday other then that everything else was amazing
It was my sons birthday and I wanted to take him somewhere nice that was kid friendly. He loved it.
Poor service but fun atmosphere. The Chicago one seemed run down.
This place was very very horrible, the waiter was so rude it took them nearly half an hour to get us water. And food took a minimum of 1 hour, if you have time to waste this is the place for you
We were excited it being our first time dining hear Arrived early with a reservation. Checked in early 20 min. My group was forgotten and seated 30 minutes past our reservation time. Total wait time almost an hour.
Order was mixed up a little bit. No big deal though.
The food is awesome but you’ll be waiting a while. We had to wait 10 minutes for a waitress to come to our table which was not in a great location of the restaurant. Then took another 10-15 minutes to have beer in bottles delivered to our table. We ordered an appetizer which of course took a while. We weren’t finished with the appetizer when the dinner was delivered. The dessert was great.
My experience here was mediocre at best. I had mentioned in the reservation notes that it was a birthday without any acknowledgement onsite. The first few things that we ordered, we were told they were out of stock. The service was quite slow. The quality of the food was not what I had expected. This is mostly a tourist spot that is overpriced for what you get. The perception of value is terrible. With all of the options in Chicago, I won’t be coming back here.
Service was terrible and very slow despite the restaurant being empty
Unfortunately it was not a great experience for our family. The server was pleasant, but the food took so long, as did our drinks to come out. It also was not that clean of a restaurant (table area, bathrooms)
I was very surprised that Sugar Factory had several of the desserts on their menu unavailable and we didn't find out until we tried to order one and, for the other, just before the food came to the table. We expected to be told up front if there were several fancy desserts on the menu that were not, in fact, available.
Expensive but a fun family experience. Food and drinks were great.
Good Food & Good Experience
We were celebrating my son’s 13th birthday and we made a reservation at his request. From the moment we walked through the door the hostess had an attitude with everyone, like she was being bothered by you to have her check you in. We arrived about 10 mins early and after about a 20 min wait our table was ready. Our server promptly welcomed us and took our drink order, which took about 20 minutes to get. We ordered our food, which we were told would take about 45 minutes, 2 ordered the fried chicken, but the food arrived in about 30 minutes. The steak my son ordered was very rare and the lobster tail was ice cold, I was going to send it back but he didn’t care and ate it anyway. We had to ask 2 times for a steak knife to cut the steak. Our server disappeared for very long stretches leaving our drinks empty for most of the dinner. When she finally came around for dessert my son wanted red velvet cake, when the cake was brought out there was no utensils on the table. We had to ask 3 times for utensils and waited another 20 minutes before our server finally brought us some forks. The final kicker was with all this poor service and food they added 20% gratuity to our bill for 2 adults and 3 kids, tables of 5 or more it’s automatically added. Are you kidding me, I should have complained, but after 2.5 hr long dinner I just wanted to get out of this place... I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone.
Overpriced below average food. Skip the meal and stop in the retail portion for a look around at the sweet merchandise and treats.
