Sugar Factory - Chicago River North
You are paying for the experience! It's fun, loud, energetic. Great for Birthdays or celebrations. The drinks & food are VERY expensive & overpriced. And the menu is limited and for sure not healthy. You go for the atmosphere only.
We took our daughter and her friends here for her 16th birthday. Our waiter did not bother to sing her happy birthday when the deserts were brought out. Thus was a shock to us with all of the music that is always playing and the multiple other tables that were sung to while we were there.
I also did not receive the hamburger that I ordered. I finally had to cancel the order when everyone else at the table finished eating there meal. (The good news is I got to get a burger at Shake Shack down the street instead) Our waiter acted like he was doing me a favor by taking the burger that I never got off of the bill.
For the feel of this concept being appealing to kids there is no kids menu which is very odd to me. The decor was very dilapidated and the restrooms were disgusting. It took a very long time to get our food which could have been service related based on the other tables around us getting food at the same time or before us that came in after. The music was very loud which would be fine in the bar but it was quieter in the bar than dining room. The food selection was very basic and quality was mediocre at best. Very disappointing.
I always love the vibe of Sugar Factory. Unlike any restaurant, when you walk in you immediately feel like a celebrity. The food selection is huge as well as their drink menu including crazy alcoholic and non-alcoholic options!
It was my first time at Sugar Factory and I took my daughter for her 17th birthday. We enjoyed it immensely. I loved the ambience!! The food was great and the so were the drinks. The staff were great as well. I will definitely be back!!
They make you wait even with reservation
5pm reservation sat down at 545 this is not for a romantic outing place is to loud drinks are way too sweet candy tasted very old 8oz burger is 2 patties false advertising on burger. On menu it showed one 8oz Pattie but I got 2 patties on my Burger
We celebrated our daugther's 16th birthday at The Sugar Factory. Overall, our experience was positive! We did, however, have difficulty with our reservation. We checked in at the desk 15 minutes prior to our reservation time as instructed in the confirmation email. But, we were seated 35 minutes past our reservation time. I checked in at the desk 3 times, and the final time I was told that they didn't show I'd checked in. This was very frustrating considering I'd been to the desk 3 times! We were then seated quickly. But, we were seated at a table that was really too small for 6 people. Thankfully, our server Brian was wonderful! He was attentive, helpful, and so kind. And the food was delicious! I assumed the desserts would be good, but honestly, I didn't expect the food to be as exceptional as it was. The desserts are huge and so fun! So yummy! I recommend sharing. The atmosphere is fun & vibrant! Overall, it was a fun, memorable experience!
Sugar Factory delivered on festivity, meh on quality and OMG on price. Went for the experience and fun photo ops. Noise level was through the roof but our server was kind. Our experience was as expected. Recommend for a special occasion when the celebration atmosphere needs to be over the top, price is no concern and meals is average.
DISASTER —- Terrible service and experience at Sugar Factory Chicago on Grand Ave. Do not visit here...especially if you are visiting or have other plans for the day/evening. We were visiting from NYC and had a 2p reservation for a birthday party for my 11 yo daughter. I indicated the occasion on the reservation. We arrived early and after waiting 15mins asked about seating for our reserved party of seven. We were told there would be at least another 45min wait. After tangling with management, we were finally seated at approx. 2.35/2.40p...after being separated into a both and a table before finally being seated together.
Out waiter Jared was completely dismissive and inattentive the entire time, until it was time to pay the check. Then we couldn’t get rid of him. The service was worse than awful. It took 20mins for Jared to even take our order. After we ordered it was over 1 hour before we were served. Several tables that came 20-30 mins after we were seated received their food and drinks...while we watched hungrily and patiently.
Excuses were made the entire time... no acknowledgement, apologies or attempts to make up for service that was well below even the lowest standard...as for a premium price. I would give it zero stars if that was an option, but you have to chose at least one star.
There are many great options throughout Chicago. I would skip the lines and this place entirely. I will NEVER be back or recommend.
I believe the restaurant was music-wise too loud.
The service and everything overall was great.I really did prefer a booth which I seen more than a couple open. I don’t understand why I wasn’t able to get A booth.I had asked for one and was denied.i did also have reservations .Me and my partner but overall everything was great.
So much fun but kind of expensive for anything other than a special occasion
Our waitress was absolutely AWFUL. When you’re meal is $100+ You’d expect good or at least decent serves.
Great Valentines dinner with family - kids loved it!!!
Second time at this location. Was super disappointed this time. Music was way too loud, food was not good, then the $25 fondue came out dark chocolate instead of milk which the picture in the menu shows. When I asked the waitress about it she was dismissive. I didn’t even get to eat any because it was bitter and disgusting, but definitely still paid for it.
The food here is awful. At least if you’re gonna gouge people make sure the food is actually good. And the candy prices are ridiculous. I understand how they mark up the candy but tone it down a bit, $20 for a box of smarties?? It could have been $10 and you would still make a profit. 2 thumbs down, will never return
We went for my sons 16th bday and daughters 8th. I’ve been before so I knew what to expect but I didn’t know on Sundays it was so dead. That kind of killed the ambiance of “fun”. The kids enjoyed their shakes and our server was nice. The smoky drink was overpriced. It’s nothing but ice. Wouldn’t recommend. I’d go back but during evening hours when it’s more fun.
Overall, the experience with SugarFactory is great, specially for kids. Place was awesome and food is great. However, we were disappointed that the lunch menu for the 2020 Chicago Restaurant week was not available for weekends. That wasn’t specifically indicated on their lunch menu published on the ChooseChicago site hosting the Annual Restaurant week. We decided not to make a big deal out of it so we just order from their brunch menu and just added the Rainbow Sliders. Unfortunately, that too, wasn’t available at the time we ordered it so we just ended up choosing the Chicken Fingers as the food for our child. Our waiter was happy to still give the rubber duck that comes with the rainbow sliders. Kudos to that.
Had a great night at Sugar factory. Tasty food and drinks, polite and nice waitress. Nothing to complain about :)
Super cute and fun place...overpriced, but you’re paying for the name so I expected that. Service was slow, gratuity was being added automatically so maybe that’s why there wasn’t much of a rush. Food was mediocre to say the least, food menu was boring. The drinks are super cute though. Wouldn’t dine there again unless it was for a special occasion again (birthday, girls night, etc.). Don’t mind spending the money but the food and service made it a waste of money in the long run.
Didn’t know there was a 20% service fee that did not include tip. If you do go be ready to pay the additional 20% service fee.
Drinks were delicious and on the very sweet side of the the spectrum but that is expected. Overall it was a fun time with friends but wouldn’t go back.
The only good thing I can say is that our waitress was great. She focused a lot on trying to interact with my daughter and make sure she enjoyed herself, which I really appreciated. Other than that, the food was mediocre and overpriced. The music was too loud. We just came for dessert and I very much regretted not just going to cold stone creamery. My husband and I split the cookie jar sundae. The ice cream was basic and definitely nothing to write home about. The whipped cream tasted EXACTLY like cool whip, so much so that I'm positive that's what they use. The cookie was rock hard and barely edible. The shake my daughter got instagramed well but tasted like a very basic vanilla shake.
Having a reservation placed us at the worst table possible, in the bar and right next to the bathroom. Service was poor, luckily we didn't have any plans following dinner so we weren't in a rush. The food was OK, dessert was great. I've been here a couple times before and come because my tween-age kids love it. It was just OK for me--overpriced in my opinion.
We had a reservation and still had to wait an additional 35 minutes for a table. The service was terrible as our waiter was nonexsistant. We had to ask multiple times for water. The beer selection was all of two kinds. The food was terrible. The burgers were overcooked, the grilled cheese was missing the cheese and the milkshakes were an outrageously priced at $20! There was loud music playing the entire time that only got louder with every birthday celebration. We will never go back.
Highly disappointed. Made reservations for my daughter's birthday. They sat us at a table right outside of the restrooms. We asked to be moved and they told us they could not accommodate us. We asked specifically for a booth that was open and we were told that booths are reserved for parties of 5 or more (despite that the booth right next to the open one only had 4 people). We left and went to another restaurant and had a marvelous experience.
Had a great time celebrating my daughter’s sweet 16 party!!
Wait for food and drinks was outrageously long, food way over priced. Same food at Chili’s but double the price...
Loud!!!! The music was way too loud!! It's frustrating to scream during dinner trying to have a conversation. . Food was fine, not exceptional. Food was a bit expensive, but not terrible. Drinks are very overpriced.
We had a great time for a first visit. The staff was nice and the food was delicious. Looking forward to the next!
Food was not worth paying for but the dessert was worth it.
I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with mashed potatoes. By the time I got the sandwich, the cheese was cold and the bread was tough to chew. The mash potatoes were barely warm and subpar.
Desserts were huge and yummy! Spectacular eye contact. Food was average.
Expected a classier experience. It seemed more like a Chuck E. Cheese for adults.
Food was sent back twice, made reservations still took an additional 45 min to be seated
We came for restaurant week and the steak was overcooked.
I loved it had amazing time definitely would be coming back soon
Very over priced; food was decent but if I were to go back again, it would probably be only for dessert with a group of people to share
lovely birthday spot
The service was AWFUL, we waited about 20 minutes before we even got water, and another 30 minutes after that for 2 drinks and some spinach dip. We got a goblet, a hot chocolate and spinach dip and it was $70....the goblet is definitely a novelty thing, but it’s overpriced and SO LOUD in there. And it was early on a Friday night and not even super busy. Not sure I’ll be back.
