5 stars for location , no really wow factor to the food severed at fine dining prices . Service was poor. limited options available if you are pregnant.
The food is always amazing, I’ve never been disappointed here. Yes, it’s expensive, but worth every cent.
Melbourne cup recovery lunch. Beautiful food and stunning location.
Food was delicious, wait staff were eager to help and the overall ambiance was magnificent!
Fabulous day, the menu and drinks list was fantastic as was the food and service.
The atmosphere was wonderful.
A lovely lunch, beautifully prepared and presented by friendly professional staff
Booked dinner for a romantic catch up. A bit too noisy for an old man! Food and service faultless, wine list very expensive!
We went for a dinner for our wedding anniversary. The meal very small and overpriced.
The food and ambience were great! The only thing that we felt was not up to standard was the service. We had different wait staff constantly ask us if we wanted to order and there appeared to be a strong emphasis on up-selling which was a bit much for us. What did really annoy us was that my 10 year old son was asked if he wanted more soft drinks- I suggest to ask the parent not the child.
Awesome wine list
The food was good (not amazing just good) and our waitress was was fabulous but the atmosphere is not great. The noise and acoustics are just terrible and they create a level of stress that no one needs when going out to dinner. To add to this feeling of stress, the maitre d was not calm and was impacted by the busyness of the place. It is very expensive for what you get - ie good food but bad atmosphere and I was overall disappointed.
Despite it being a splendid sunny day, our lunchtime table was in front of windows so dirty we could barely see out. Disgusting.
The service staff women were very nice though it was hard to hear some of them over the girly warbly music playing. Bizarre audio tape, varying from nice cool jazz to insistent shouty vocals and some doof doof.
The service staff males were oddly “forthright”, bordering on officious. Not nasty, just completely cold. Definitely could use a bit of true hospitality training.
The food was fair; the battered whiting rather oily and the lamb rather tough (and served without a meat knife) though its accompanying sauce quite delicious. Sides were fine though $12 for a small dish of three lettuce leaves, however artfully arranged, is a bit much. Food delivery was quite slow despite it not being that busy upstairs.
Wine by the glass was ok. The Riesling was good though the red nothing to write home about, especially at $16 a glass.
Glad to have been to the rebuilt Stokehouse, but it’ll be quite some time before we venture back, if at all.
The seafood mains were not value for money. The oysters were great though..something in there have us the gift of not so gentle stomaches the next day..
Awesome time with my daughter who they made feel very special
love visiting Stokehouse in St kilda.. the oysters were a standout dish.. as well as the risotto!! yum yum and yum! Service was great as well.. pity there was no room at the bar for a drink after our meal..however our waitress did try and accomodate us.
Great food, attentive service, fabulous view - all the right ingredients for a birthday celebration. Well worth the visit.
Good food and view but noise bounces around, no character / ambience and over priced relative to the great options in the area.
Didn’t know what ro expect but the food was really good.
Can't go past the view, lovely atmosphere but food not worth the $$$
Our waitress Julia (21st of October) was extremely knowledgeable, canny, kind and attentive. The food was great and the view magnificent.
We will definitely be back for more and share with friends.
Went there 8 years ago (before it burnt down) and found it positively charming. Unfortunately it is not just another expensive restaurant.
The service and food was first rate. Went for a special occasion and felt like the occasion was respected by what we had.
One of the worse "fine dining" experience I have ever had. I've made a booking online for 4. A stuff calls me the day before and asks me to confirm a booking for 2. I said it's for 4 and ask for the time to change to 7 pm. She went away and came back to me and said that it's all fine. So I turn up 6.55 and they said we only have your booking at 6 and want the table back at 8. By the time we're sited we had 45 mins to eat. They rush us through our meals and as soon as we finished our main we were told to leave. The food was ok nothing great. I will not recommend to anyone and won't be coming back. Very bad experience for my sister's birthday.
Great venue, lovely food and service. The nettle risotto was fabulous. have never had anything like it before. Will definitely be back.
We were made feel welcome and enjoyed well made cocktail pre lunch whilst taking in the view. The food was delicious beautifully presented and all the staff were courteous with friendly personality to their roles. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would definitely recommend the Stokehouse for a lovely meal in beautiful surroundings
Excellent service, fantastic food. Just a bit high noise level. We will be back surely.
Noise levels are still too high and loud. The owners really need to consider lowering the noise
Great food and good service. Just a little noisy.
Saturday lunch for a significant birthday. We opted for the 5 Course plus matching wines.
Seared tuna, wasabi cream, sesame, soy: Awesome
King prawn taco, avocado, kale: Awesome
Nettle risotto, spanner crab, stracciatella, brassica flowers: Awesome
Daily fish (Snapper), carrot noisette sauce, ginger, witlof jam: Double Awesome
Grilled cauliflower, white bean puree, chilli, crispy saltbush: Awesome
‘Neapolitan’ - vanilla semifreddo, Davidson plum sorbet, dark chocolate mousse: Double Awesome
Very professional and attentive service with a lovely ambience. Beautiful food, so excellent value for money.
Wasn’t expecting such good food. Definitely worth it, great location also.
Food was delicious. Overall a very lovely experience and great seaside views. Only downfalls were all our wine glasses had lipstick stains (even my replacement one!) and also the lights above our table were strobing weird colours. Eventually they were turned off. Most of the staff were great. For the price of the meals I think they could up their game a bit with care of the glasses and service.
Would recommend for a nice semi formal lunch.
Great please, excellent food, nice viwes, great service. We had the Set Menu, so we got a great variety of food. Do recommend it to anyone for a special dinner
We found Stokehouse beyond amazing. It has been many years since we had a perfect dinning experience. We found each dish was perfectly executed. Service was frequent without being overbearing or intrusive. We highly recommend visiting and suggest you get there early for a delicious cocktail whilst taking in the beautiful view of St Kilda.
Service was good and great location but food wasnt great and certainly overpriced for what you get. Seriously 44 dollars for 2 bite size pieces of lamb in a main course. A bit rich!!!
It was a really great experience and surpassed our expectations! The ratings were not that high but we thought the food was incredible. The market fresh ceviche was incredible as was the kingfish. The snacks we had were also very tasty and a little outside of the norm in terms of quality. Would definitely recommend and go again.
Our waitress was outstanding and made the night! She was funny, outgoing and extremely helpful
The waitress was impatient. When I asked her what's good, the Asian woman said: I'd come back in a few minutes :( We ordered oysters which were small. The main courses were not impressive: snapper not fresh, lamb not well prepared and the steak over cooked. Two vegetables dishes were over cooked too: black and burned. Overall very unpleasant experience.
Had such high hopes for a birthday meal with my partner. Whilst food and sommelier were good the overall service was average.
Extremely noisy and given the feeling that we were just filling a table as opposed to being happy to serve us and and a request to add a Birthday message/candle to desert was completely forgotten by the waiter.
I tiik my daughter for a birthday dinner before the ballet. The service was excellent as was the venue itself. The food however was very average. Especially the main meals. Entrees were scallops and a ravioli style dish - well presented but nothing special. We both ordered different fish dishes for the main . Mine was very salty and rubbery. My daughters was also rubbery and tasteless. She only ate half of it. The side of Brussel sprouts was tasty but overly salty too. Servings are small and it’s expensive for the quality. The sorbets for dessert were light and fresh however.
