Great location for a girls’ catch up lunch with amazing food and exceptional service.
What a fantastic evening!! We had an amazing evening for my sisters 50th!!
Absolutely loved the ambience and food! Amazing standards of service and great flavours! We went with our children and they loved it too.
Very disappointing not being able to have own birthday cake severed.
The portion size of the lamb shoulder was outrages for $46.
Overall a disappointing experience. While the food was really nice the noise level was too extreme. We had to scream even though we sat right next to each other to make a conversation. The service is very impersonal. It felt though as they couldn't wait for us to leave. We had a very special birthday to celebrate and werent allowed to bring our own cake. Fair enough, but the birthday person didn't even receive a small compliment from the kitchen. That seems very stingy to me, especially for such a deer restaurant. We won't be coming back.
Most of the evening was good but let down by the main course (Swordfish) being almost raw necessitating it being returned to the kitchen.
The staff managed the issue well but for such a prestige restaurant it was a fairly fundamental error.
Always love dining at this restaurant - a favourite spot!
The restaurant had no options for vegan and limited vegetarian. We were not allowed to serve the vegan birthday cake for my sister's 60th birthday that we had brought with us. Service was good but it was difficult to hear the specials over the noise from wooden floors and conversation.
Fantastic restaurant with great food/drinks selection and outstanding service. Beautiful sunset dinning views...I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion.
Great food and service but very noisy. It would be better if they had carpeted the dining area. It was so noisy that the waitress misheard my order.
We went for an anniversary years ago, not long before the stokehouse burnt down. That was a great experience in an older style building and lovely romantic dinner for two. It's now a very upbeat restaurant with a minimalist layout. As a result it was noisy and the service was a little disjointed. However, the food remains excellent. If it was just the food I would rate it 4.5/5 however at these prices it's also the experience and it just wasn't up to that standard.
Apart from lack of signage the refurbishment is great. The menu is exciting but the steak we had was sinuey and tough even served medium rare. The service was friendly and attentive. I think asking for recommendations from the chef in future would be a better choice. I would like to give it another try but as we live in Sydney it won't be soon. Overall a good night out.
I truly believe that the Stokehouse is no longer what it used to be. Gone is the variety on the menu, the service with a genuine smile! Replacing these are the exorbitant cost of both food on offer and beverages and the portion sizes of these - many fond memories but this is what they shall remain. The only positive is the view.
We had been saving this for a special occasion as it has been recommended by colleagues, however overal we felt like unwanted guests. Paying $300 for two people we would expect a level of service that reflects that higher range of pricing.
Upon arrival we were ignored by the bar staff and waited a long while for two drinks to be served to us.
Whilst dining, requests for adjustments to be made due to allergies were ignored meaning my partner ate my starter and no accompanying bread was provided to suit allergies (notified of dietary requirements 4 days prior).
Voucher payments were not deducted from our bill even though this had been discussed with front of house staff. On top of this there were 2 $30 additional charges added that were not pre arranged.
Too many mishaps resulted in an overall disappointing experience.
Sadly we were disappointed. On arrival (6.30 booking), the first thing the lady who greeted us said, after enquiring of the name for the table was, 'we will need it back by 8.30', no smile, no pleasantries...
For a restaurant that wants to be more upmarket the plastic cafe seats are uncomfortable for any length of time and just made us feel like they had been chosen so you didnt get too comfortable.
The food was ok. Nothing more nothing less. Certainly not complaining about the food but for the price it was not good value sadly.
We did have a very attentive and helpful young waitress who was lovely, and they did make a really good espresso coffee.
No doors on the kitchen meant we were looking into it and that just doesnt fit with the upmarket style they are going for.
This was a return visit for a birthday celebration and the team at the Stokehouse did not disappoint nor did the menu.
Stokehouse has friendly staff who are open to any questions. The menu caters for everyone's palate and the food is delicious but some items are a bit over priced. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant for any special occasion.
Special occasion dinner ticking many of the boxes with great decor, view, service, wines and food. Highlights were trout caviar and oysters, interesting 'orange' wines and attentive service without being too obsequious. We liked that the staff all worked together and there was a good buzz in the room for a Monday night. We're going again for lunch next week and will have to try the steak.
I just felt that we were dining in a well run, but glorified cafeteria. The food was good, not amazing, the desserts were too large, keeping our glasses full seemed to be a priority. Whilst being well located and providing great vistas over the bay and esplanade i feel the restaurant lacks a personnel touch and connection with the customer and as a result what i thought was going to be a special experience left me feeling like it was a shallow and disappointing experience.
I have dined at the stokehouse before quite some years ago and enjoyed it much more.
A wonderful Sunday lunch, delicious food, attentive service & open & airy atmosphere
Great food and wine. Top class service by friendly knowledgeable and attentive staff. Waterfront views beautiful. Internal decor and ambience lovely. Better than ever!
Have to say we were very disappointed with our experience at the Stokehouse for our wedding anniversary celebration on a number of levels.
Frankly food was very ordinary and much of it tasted pre-prepared, overcooked unpleasant paste like consistency in several items, a note for the chef the texture of a meal should have a connection to the original ingredients i.e. one day we may need to eat soft vitamised meals in a nursing home but till then ...
* Appetisers overcooked sloppy and tasted pre-prepared.
* Mains were burned on top and cold inside as if they had been pre-cooked and then quickly reheated under a high temp grill.
* Sides were uninspiring and prices had absolutely no connection to what was provided, e.g. a slab of mushy overcooked pumpkin that could have been used as a dip or spread, couple of lettuce leaves sprinkled with croutons (really?).
* Staff seemed rushed and although they were pleasant needed to move on quickly with minimal time for pleasantries.
* Never asked if our food was OK at any time.
* Special occasion never mentioned even though it was on booking.
* $80 for a bottle of wine that is not as good a $20 wine we purchase regularly from the same region.
A complete disconnect between the prices being charged and the quality of food and overall experience, much better experience in alternative local venues.
We had a wonderful evening and would definitely return. We were there at 6.15, perfect to watch the sunset with a glass of bubbly. The food and service were excellent and I love the restaurant's philosophy.
great for business meetings, quality food, nice atmosphere, accommodated vegan dinner, very happy with the experience. thanks
Great location and fantastic fresh food. Always visit here when in Melbourne. Unbeatable wine list.
Preferred the original Stokehouse.
Expectations weren’t met.
Didn’t appreciate getting recommendations for expensive wine without discussing budget etc.
Lost it’s mojo perhaps
Overall a good experience. The only criticism is that the starters and entrees were all "out there" and one or two more traditional choices in the mix would have encouraged us to have an entree. Main course and desert choices were very good and very tasty.
cocktails and staff were great, the squid entre was average. Lovely view if you get the right table.
The service was impeccable, the view was amazing; the food and drink matched! I really enjoyed our afternoon at Stokehouse! I think we will definitely be back!
Atmosphere and meal were good. Bit of a pity that there is a time limit on one of their lunch sittings. It obviously puts pressure on the staff which then puts pressure on the patrons who have to be out the door within the time frame. Makes you wonder who the restaurant is catering for - walk ins or patrons who actually take the time to make a reservation so as to enjoy a good meal and company at a good establishment.
I’ve visited the new restaurant a few times now and the venue, service and food are outstanding. The waitresses and waiters do a fantastic job.
Impeccable. Outstanding for food, wine and service.
Looking forward to a return visit.
Stokehouse. Go there for the rare combination seaside experience of great food, wine and service. Love it.
Very disappointed. Have been many times b4 fire 1st time back since. Service was impeccable, everything else was a let down. Pastry chef left early so no desert at 9.30. Perhaps if the same focus was put on the food as was spent the Mark Douglas lights, our review would have been a little brighter.
I booked Stokehouse for Father’s Day thinking that it would be the perfect gift and a great evening. Unfortunately this was not the case at all...
Stokehouse had a set menu this Father’s Day which was $130 not including drinks. For that amount of money I expected the food to be perfection, it most certainly was not. I was so disappointed at the end of the night because it wasn’t just one dish that was unsatisfactory it was everything.
The staff brought out some bread and curd to go with it I put it on thinking it would taste nice and it honestly tasted like petroleum on bread and I left all the other bread aside it was actually a shame because the bread itself was lovely, anyway I thought to myself maybe this is an acquired taste and was excited for the entree.I had the risotto it was bland nothing special at all and presentation was just terrible. Then for main I had the barramundi and it honestly was so bland and had no flavour I could of cooked something at home so much better and for $130 I just thought I would be blown away I had such high expectations and they were not met! I have had better meals at middle class restaurants that charge way less and actually put care into the food!My mum had the dumplings I wish I would have taken a photo because this main was SO small and i tasted one of the dumplings and they did not taste right.I’d also like to mention all of our mains ( we were a party of 3) were not heated they were cold like they’d been sitting out.Anyway then we got dessert and it was fine nothing special again just very basic not anything to rave about!By the end of the meal I was honestly so disappointed I had been looking forward to bringing my dad to this place all week and could not wait to taste the food I left with a bad taste in my mouth and was actually shocked. Also when they charged us for the bill they tried to charge us for the desserts ? And I had to mention that and then they said oh sorry yes that is included in the set menu
Excellent setting, view, food, wine list and service. Continues to improve and innovate on every visit since re-opening.
My main course (meat) had fat throughout the entire piece of meat. Not just little bits but half the meat was actual white fat. I returned the dish but didn’t get an apology nor did they take the dish off the bill (untilI requested they did so).
My partner and I came here for his birthday and left feeling very full and very happy. The food was sensational, the wine list was extensive and we were thoroughly impressed with how knowledgeable and friendly the wait-staff were (thank you Rose (Grace)). We will definitely be coming back for more special occasions, and hopefully grab the sunset timing a little better.
The food and service was disappointing. I had to send back my steak twice after it was recommended.
Then was presented the bill with it still on it. When I questioned it the wait staff said well you ate a third of it. Which wasn’t true I’d sliced into the pieces that were gristly and over cooked. I’m actually convinced they’d replated my dish. Hence it being over cooked when it was returned.
Disappointing was that it ruined our 13 anniversary.
We had a lovely lunch.
I asked for a table with a view being our anniversary and they were very accommodating.
