Stokehouse St Kilda Beach
Beautiful views, excellent food and an elegant environment embody what you'll find at Stokehouse Restaurant. The restaurant's position on the sea makes it a wonderful haven for fresh seafood. Enjoy sand crab, squid, oysters and a variety of fish dishes with flavorful sauces.
The menu at Stokehouse Restaurant includes local fare such as chicken and grilled beef, with sides that place an emphasis on fresh. Indulge in some pickled beetroot, char-grilled kale or Jap pumpkin as a complement to your meal. Desserts at Stokehouse Restaurant are also worth ordering and you can choose among cheese, chocolate custard, summer berries and other sweets. Pair your meal and dessert with one of several tasty cocktails prepared by skilled bartenders.
No sign out front. Hard to locate and meet taxi. Great sunset.
Excellent food, service and an impossibly incredible view!!!
Food was amazing and the location was brilliant. Great special occasion restaurant
We enjoyed the well presented meal, the fish and chips were superb particularly the chips, the oyster were great. Thank you for a great experience.
Excellent food, service and location. Menu is brilliant. Wine list is superb. However, it is quite expensive - expect to be around $100 per person or more if you have drink or two. Value is subjective - but I've been there twice since the fire and will go again.
Fantastic food service was good perfect to celebrate a special occasion
Service and food all very good.
Ambience and views were excellent.
Dutch visitors accompanying at lunch described restaurant as world class.
Excellent food, standard drinks a bit expensive though.
Great atmosphere. Excellent tastes - particularly the ‘raw’ seafood.
Great location perfect for drinks and watching the sun set. I would not recommend going for dinner before 7.30pm as staff will rush you to get you out within two hours. Dishes were variable with some lacking seasoning. Presentation of King fish ceviche was terrible albeit delicious, and the bombe alaska was not flamming!!!!
Outstanding menu and exceptional service , thanks to all at the Stonehouse.
The food was delicious and the service polished, but despite having one of the best sunset views in Melbourne there was no warmth in the ambiance. The restaurant was also extremely noisy, making conversation difficult to hear.
it just worked sò well......from beginning to end, no mistakes. Delicious food and great service and a stunning sunset!
Great fan of this restaurant having been a customer since 1980's. Only negative was fighting through smokers at the front door. Maybe need a dedicated smoking area.
Excellent menu, fresh vibrant flavours, exceptional service and comprehensive wine list. perfect for a long lunch.
Great food in a wonderful location
Great service great food very attentive staff and very knowledgeable about there menu couldn’t fault the place except for the parking which was not enough I’ll definitely be back again N. Perry
We had a delicious lunch here with friends recently. The menu was creative and the wine list was extensive. The staff were attentive and well educated in terms of the food and beverages on offer. The only negative aspect was, was that it was noisy but we knew the restaurant would be like this before we went and it didn't spoil our lunch, we were after all a party of six so I guess we added to the noise level. I'd definitely return.
Setting was gorgeous and wine/cocktails were great!
Food was average & portion sizes weren't great (gnocchi in particular & side dishes) & value for money was poor. Definitely need to step up your game with the sides, none of which were good unfortunately. And we ordered them all. Desserts were all tasty!
Our waitress was not at all friendly or personable - a smile wouldn't have gone a stray. Unfortunately, wouldn't recommend Stokehouse for these reasons.
Superb food, matched with wonderful french wines - a real treat !
All the staff but particularly Will was great. Good advice on wine choice, food was fantastic.
Ordered the shell fish dish. $48 for one medium sized bug. Cooked perfectly but poor value and just lumped on plate. $45 for two small flat head tails. Well cooked, just poor value.
Value for money it was not worth it ($253.00).
The fish and chips were poor. The batter was sweet and doughy and very poor quality fish. For $39 it was very disappointing. The flathead fillets were OK but not very sweet. The eel toasty was too salty which overpowered any taste of eel. The crab and the prawn were Ok but again the sauce overpowered the natural flavours. The highlight of the evening was the bomb for dessert. The wine was good but you expect that for $18 per glass.
For my wife’s birthday I was disappointed that such a landmark restaurant fell so short of expectations.
This was our super special Christmas/New Year's Eve treat and it lived up to expectations. Best oysters ever. Fabulous belly pork ... as soft as butter but wonderfully sticky. Would we go again on NYE? Probably not because it was, for us, stupendously expensive, but for a once off treat it hit every button. Great staff that worked their socks off all night. For us this is super special occasion restaurant. We've been twice and twice it has been exactly that: super special.
I always love coming here. I’ve never had a bad experience. The staff are top notch and the food brilliant. Thankyou all for working New Year’s Eve.
We had an amazing dinner at Stokehouse - the attentive staff were amazing, the fresh food was delicious, and the wine list was spectacular!
Great ambience. Food selection ticked all the boxes. Awesome wine varieties and especially impressed with the availability of local produce. Service was outstanding on all levels. Sommelier was exceptional as were the wait staff. Definitely be back!
Fabulous food but way too noisy and service was inconsistent - couldn’t get attention at one point but later the table was “de-crumbed” twice! Wine was also amazing and sommelier very helpful. Main drawback was that our table of four found it difficult to hold a conversation. Given the cost and the fact that we chose the Stokehouse to showcase Melbourne to European visitors, this was disappointing.
Amazing table with breath taking views
Food was great and service prompt .
Great food and wine although the service, while friendly, waqs a little hit-and-miss
Always a great experience. The staff were great and food fantastic. Topped off with a great view.
Back in Melbourne
Lovely food, the food cane a bit to quickly felt a bit rushed and very loud in there. Food was amazing though!
Superb experience! Amazing venue, great food and Gavin's wine selection made the night.
My wife & I dined twice in December 2018, once at lunch which was very noisy, we found it hard to converse with each other at the table and was not a great experience for us. However the second time was tea, which was not as noisy, we chatted and enjoyed ourselves - both occasions the food was great.
We had a great christmas lunch. The food was amazing, and the staff incredibly knowledgeable and friendly.
2 of the 4 mains were over cooked & dry. One would of expected a better food experience for a renowned restaurant.
we had a saturday lunch for work friends celebrating christmas. We have been coming here for about 10 years now and love it. But we save it for a special occasion due to the price. Food is always amazing, and service fantastic. The only downside is the noise level. I don't remember it being this noisy in the old stokehouse
will definitely come again though!
Great food and gorgeous view, but for what you are paying, the service is inattentive and not that well informed, and its so noisy that you cant hear the person on the other side of the (small) table. no need for the background music when its that busy. I'm sure on a quiet Wednesday the experience would be different.
