Stokehouse St Kilda Beach
Beautiful views, excellent food and an elegant environment embody what you'll find at Stokehouse Restaurant. The restaurant's position on the sea makes it a wonderful haven for fresh seafood. Enjoy sand crab, squid, oysters and a variety of fish dishes with flavorful sauces.
The menu at Stokehouse Restaurant includes local fare such as chicken and grilled beef, with sides that place an emphasis on fresh. Indulge in some pickled beetroot, char-grilled kale or Jap pumpkin as a complement to your meal. Desserts at Stokehouse Restaurant are also worth ordering and you can choose among cheese, chocolate custard, summer berries and other sweets. Pair your meal and dessert with one of several tasty cocktails prepared by skilled bartenders.
The food was absolutely amazing! The only downside would be the amount of time it took for the staff to give and collect the check
It was previously advised before booking of vegetarian and gluten free requirement, but the offerings were sadly lacking. For a main I had to order several accompaniment dishes, which were not special. And the dessert was inferior to a supermarket gelato.
The gluten free bread offered was clearly bought elsewhere and of supermarket standard, when other fine dining venues bake their own.
The cocktails were hit and miss, with one very good and the other overpriced and uninspiring.
The food is greatly overpriced in general. However the service was polite.
Service and food simply outstanding! Ambience was just lovely and views amazing.
Lamb was tepid at best. We were never asked how our meal was by any staff member. Mineral water was continually poured despite never having the opportunity to request a stop. Clearly a request from management. Dodgy and unethical. Maître d was initially rude and we were told to hurry up as our booking was only until 8.30pm. Pretty poor given we spent $1000 for 5 covers, two of whom were children. Sommelier was exceptional and did his best to make amends.
Food was good but not exceptional. Very expensive. Pay for view & location.
Great view and feel. Waiter relocated us from a positio with too much sun which we appreciated. Raw bar choices were delicious. As I require lactose free food I went through the menu with the waiter. He suggested the linguini vongole . I think it may have had butter in the sauce as I had a severe reaction which spoilt the night.
Good food and great service, perhaps a bit too noisy for my liking.
We had a delightful evening, at the Stockhouse. The menu offered a great selection of varied dishes, with an emphasis on seafood. We particularily enjoyed the raw seaford starters. I would highly recommend it for a special occasion, or visitors to Melbourne - excellent wine selection, fabulous food and a beautiful setting overlooking Port Phillip bay.
Brilliant for lunch and if you can go with four people so that you can share that would be even better.
Very laid back and great view overlooking the beach sipping wine with great sea food.
Service and food and setting were outstanding on Friday, a 38 degree day, over lunch - we really enjoyed our lunch visit. Thanks to Hugh and the team, it really was perfect and we can't wait to visit again.
Our Wedding Anniversary Dinner was all Divine Food, Wine, Service & Great View 🌄The Sparkling Water Kept Flowing as did the Red Wine.
My partner and I celebrate a special anniversary each year. The last 2 years we have chosen Stokehouse and will continue because Stokehouse is just perfect.
We are never disappointed, in fact we could not fault any part of our celebration.
Congratulations for making our night so memorable.
Great ambiance. Excellent quality food and service.
Food, service and view are perfect. Fantastic wine list. Will definitely dine there again.
A day out with the girls, we enjoyed a gorgeous lunch, spectacular views and a wonderful atmosphere. We will definitely be back!
Good ambience and location on a beautiful evening.
Food a little disappointing. Butterfly king prawns over cooked which spoilt my overall evening.
Had an amazing night as always and the food was outstanding 😊
Food was OK without being spectacular, service VERY poor, generally pretentious. hard to locate with no obvious number sign until you enter. Location fantastic
Booked for 8pm table not ready for a further 20 minutes but worth waiting for. Thank you
It is a beautiful bayside setting and we really appreciated having a table with an outlook over Port Phillip Bay to watch the waves breaking on the beach and to follow the progress of ships coming and going from the port. The magnificent floral arrangements of eucalyptus ficifolia were most impressive and appropriate to the season. One suggestion for improvement would be the dessert menu, which was quite limited in offerings. Given that we are in Melbourne with Acland Street in close proximity, it seemed that the desserts on the menu were way below potential. The waiters circulated with professional efficiency and helped us enjoy a pleasant dinner break in our evening of Wagner at the Palais Theatre.
The reduced sitting time is very limiting particularly when it’s a special occasion and midweek!
Great food and service as we watched the sunset over the bay
Sensational food and service. Will defiantly be coming back and recommending to friends.
What a great dining experience we had! A special acknowledgement to the sommelier.
Personable and attentive service, beautiful food and beautiful setting
The location is amazing. Easy too.
The food is okay. Not enough variety on the menu especially for non seafood eaters. Entree is too small. Dessert was lovely.
I really enjoy this place, service and food always exceeds expectations
Lovely food with fantastic service. Beautiful afternoon views into the bay and a lovely night with my wife. Highly recommended for those special nights out.
Amazing restaurant. Stepping out of the elevator on the first floor, you are welcomed by fantastic views of the bay, the sandy beach below and the beautiful, soft furnishes inside. The food and wine options are superb. I highly recommend this place.
Wife’s birthday - service is second to none.
We used to go to The Stokehouse before it was unfortunately destroyed by fire. Living outside Melb. we had not had a chance to go since it was rebuilt. However on my 70th birthday my wife and I booked a table asking if it could be by the window as it was a special occasion. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly staff member and shown to a very nice table by the window as requested. The extensive menu was explained to us in detail. We ordered four courses which were exquisite. Certainly fine dining and more. The wine waiter suggested a Pinot Noir we had not tried before and it was lovely. We look forward to returning soon. Excellent experience.
Stokehouse is our go-to restaurant in Melbourne for special occasions. Almost always great.
Just one thing happened, otherwise 5 stars all the way. We ordered a dish that cost $56 - it is a Morton Bay Bug dish. The serving was so tiny. We complained and were told that it was almost the end of the season for MBB! Ok - then take it off the menu - or charge less.. Easy!
All the same, another special occasion and we will got back...
food was great, view was awesome, would recommend the Stokehouse for sure
thank you very much
Food was really good however for the value of the food the service was terrible.
It was high expectations that we booked an anniversary dinner upstairs at The Stokehouse; having not been since the fire and rebuild. The staff were fantastic, the service impeccable and the fitout is impressive with the great views across Port Phillip Bay. Unfortunately the food was average at best. The best part of our dining was from the raw bar, with the hiramasa kingfish sensational. After that it was all downhill with the prawn taco being overly strong and drowning in avocado puree, the fried chicken and caviar being overly salty with an awful crumb on the chicken. For mains the squid ink spaghetti was overly strongly fishy with the spaghetti being served almost like crisp noodles. The grass fed sirloin was fine but it was a steak that could be had at half a dozen pubs around town with nothing memorable about it.
Our wait staff were so good that it was the only reason to leave a tip but otherwise it was a major disappointment.
Lunch on a Monday - a relatively small number of diner's, so noise not a problem, although dining area design and materials likely to create a noise issue when busy, with tables near kitchen a particular problem. Chairs hard and not encouraging one to linger. The purpose of the lunch was for a birthday and the attention, consideration and service was outstanding, and likely to have been so even without the mention of the occasion. The food was very good, but in disappointing quantities in view of the price (e.g one Morton Bay Bug with a single mouthful of flesh for $45). Desserts were mainly icecream based and not particularly enticing or special. Good wine list. Had a good time but no special reason to return.
Excellent food and location, drinks very expensive though.
Had friends visiting from NZ. Stokehouse is a standout 'to impress' restaurant. Stunning location, interesting menu and great service. Its not cheap and neither should it be. The bill is well offset by everything else it offers.
Great seafood in a setting perfectly overlooking St Kilda beach.
For me, the taste and flavours of my main dish (Squid ink spaghetti, vongole, shellfish sauce, garlic) were quite unpleasant. I've had this dish several times in Italy and your version had a flavour similar to uncleaned prawns i.e. head and entrails. I sent the dish back and was not charged for it - thank you.
The raw bar dishes we had were excellent but very small portions - I though nouvelle cuisine had died a death years ago !
