Went there 8 years ago (before it burnt down) and found it positively charming. Unfortunately it is not just another expensive restaurant.
The service and food was first rate. Went for a special occasion and felt like the occasion was respected by what we had.
One of the worse "fine dining" experience I have ever had. I've made a booking online for 4. A stuff calls me the day before and asks me to confirm a booking for 2. I said it's for 4 and ask for the time to change to 7 pm. She went away and came back to me and said that it's all fine. So I turn up 6.55 and they said we only have your booking at 6 and want the table back at 8. By the time we're sited we had 45 mins to eat. They rush us through our meals and as soon as we finished our main we were told to leave. The food was ok nothing great. I will not recommend to anyone and won't be coming back. Very bad experience for my sister's birthday.
Great venue, lovely food and service. The nettle risotto was fabulous. have never had anything like it before. Will definitely be back.
We were made feel welcome and enjoyed well made cocktail pre lunch whilst taking in the view. The food was delicious beautifully presented and all the staff were courteous with friendly personality to their roles. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and would definitely recommend the Stokehouse for a lovely meal in beautiful surroundings
Excellent service, fantastic food. Just a bit high noise level. We will be back surely.
Noise levels are still too high and loud. The owners really need to consider lowering the noise
Great food and good service. Just a little noisy.
Saturday lunch for a significant birthday. We opted for the 5 Course plus matching wines.
Seared tuna, wasabi cream, sesame, soy: Awesome
King prawn taco, avocado, kale: Awesome
Nettle risotto, spanner crab, stracciatella, brassica flowers: Awesome
Daily fish (Snapper), carrot noisette sauce, ginger, witlof jam: Double Awesome
Grilled cauliflower, white bean puree, chilli, crispy saltbush: Awesome
‘Neapolitan’ - vanilla semifreddo, Davidson plum sorbet, dark chocolate mousse: Double Awesome
Very professional and attentive service with a lovely ambience. Beautiful food, so excellent value for money.
Wasn’t expecting such good food. Definitely worth it, great location also.
Food was delicious. Overall a very lovely experience and great seaside views. Only downfalls were all our wine glasses had lipstick stains (even my replacement one!) and also the lights above our table were strobing weird colours. Eventually they were turned off. Most of the staff were great. For the price of the meals I think they could up their game a bit with care of the glasses and service.
Would recommend for a nice semi formal lunch.
Great please, excellent food, nice viwes, great service. We had the Set Menu, so we got a great variety of food. Do recommend it to anyone for a special dinner
We found Stokehouse beyond amazing. It has been many years since we had a perfect dinning experience. We found each dish was perfectly executed. Service was frequent without being overbearing or intrusive. We highly recommend visiting and suggest you get there early for a delicious cocktail whilst taking in the beautiful view of St Kilda.
Service was good and great location but food wasnt great and certainly overpriced for what you get. Seriously 44 dollars for 2 bite size pieces of lamb in a main course. A bit rich!!!
It was a really great experience and surpassed our expectations! The ratings were not that high but we thought the food was incredible. The market fresh ceviche was incredible as was the kingfish. The snacks we had were also very tasty and a little outside of the norm in terms of quality. Would definitely recommend and go again.
Our waitress was outstanding and made the night! She was funny, outgoing and extremely helpful
The waitress was impatient. When I asked her what's good, the Asian woman said: I'd come back in a few minutes :( We ordered oysters which were small. The main courses were not impressive: snapper not fresh, lamb not well prepared and the steak over cooked. Two vegetables dishes were over cooked too: black and burned. Overall very unpleasant experience.
Had such high hopes for a birthday meal with my partner. Whilst food and sommelier were good the overall service was average.
Extremely noisy and given the feeling that we were just filling a table as opposed to being happy to serve us and and a request to add a Birthday message/candle to desert was completely forgotten by the waiter.
I tiik my daughter for a birthday dinner before the ballet. The service was excellent as was the venue itself. The food however was very average. Especially the main meals. Entrees were scallops and a ravioli style dish - well presented but nothing special. We both ordered different fish dishes for the main . Mine was very salty and rubbery. My daughters was also rubbery and tasteless. She only ate half of it. The side of Brussel sprouts was tasty but overly salty too. Servings are small and it’s expensive for the quality. The sorbets for dessert were light and fresh however.
It is a very beautiful restaurant with a lovely aspect over the ocean. The staff were very attentive and made our experience very pleasant. They promptly offered us a bottomless Bollinger set course menu offer which we enjoyed. We would happily come back again and highly recommend it to friends.
The food and service were excellent and would probably add a few more items on the menu to have more variety. Many fish dishes
I was very surprised at the dominance of imported wine ( French and Italian ) versus the lack of premium domestic wines
The food and service is exceptional, very highly recommended!!!!!
One of the most delicious courses I have ever eaten; followed by a not very impressive fish dish. The ambience is wonderful and wine list really good. Biggest concern was cost / value equation. Seemed excessively expensive
Celebrating a special birthday for a friend. The service staff made the day extra special and presented her dessert with a candle and special dish. Lovely food and ambiance-a great place for a special celebration everyday!
Amazing food and service! We can't wait to go back
Venue is fantastic, service great, wine and food very expensive.
Could not afford to go here regularly, special occasions only.
Not enough food choices without chilli or spices, pretty much only the steak options.
Food and ambience were great but the service was the star for me. The wine suggestion from the sommelier was fantastic, an unusual 2008 Solvenian white that somehow went as well with the wagyu tartare and lamb as the John Dory. Good work team Stokehouse!
The service was outstanding, better than my expectations! The food was sublime, the meat was cooked perfectly and the combination of flavors was surprisingly tasty! My favorite place in Melbourne!!
I loved the environment but was disappointed by the food and quality
Good high quality dishes, but overpriced compared to other similar restaurants. Staff were friendly and service was ok.
Probably won’t return.
The atmosphere and view were great. So was the service. However, the food wasn’t up to the standard we expected for the price.
I took my partner here to celebrate his birthday. The view of the bay is nice but gets lost once the sun goes down. The food was good and the tasting menu made for good value. Great selection of wines. Staff were attentive but not always the most knowledgeable about the menu and the wines.
We had a beautiful girls lunch on Saturday! The weather was miserable, which made it even better being inside and cozy. My waitress was absolutely lovely and very attentive! Our food is delicious and the whole vibe was just fab. Will be back again soon!
great place for a romantic dinner, food excellent, great view
Superb location, views, informative and welcoming staff, and of course the food and wine divine!
The food was excellent although a bit overpriced. The service was excellent. The annoying thing was the noise level.
Exceptional service and delicious foods. Maybe one or other items on the menu for variety but would be nice but that's just nitpicking. Highly recommended.
The stokehouse was a great place for dinner. It is very professional and the workers and food were impeccable. I would highly recommend eating at this fine restaurant. It is a very good experience and worth the money,.
I was quite disappointed with Stokehouse. This is the first opportunity i have had to come back since re-development.
I expected a fine dining experience, but the ambience was so casual - and NOISY. Could hardly hear my partner speak.
The waitress was distracted, and basically throwing plates on our table.
The food quality was great,.
I do not think i would come back.
