Steak 48 - Chicago
Not impressed. First and pet peeve of mine - had reservations and after checking in, waited while 3 parties after of us checked in and were seated, including one that said they didn’t have reservations. Went up to ask status my reservation based on what I had just seen and a
guy, who I presume was a manager due to his hovering over the check in desk, very gruffly said they would be with us (instead of apologizing for the wait and saying he’d seat us shortly, which would have been the appropriate response). We then waited for about 20-25 minutes after being seated to get a menu and order drinks. Our server, who was clearly being taxed with too many tables, was very good, given the circumstances and was very friendly and helpful in ordering. The noise level was absolutely terrible and it was EXTREMELY difficult to have a conversation. Food however was VERY GOOD and very decent sizes.
I don’t mind spending a decent amount on dinner for decent food (this place is not cheap) but I won’t go back again mainly because of the poor reception at the beginning and the attitude of the person I’m presuming was one of the managers.
We decided to go to the best steakhouse in town, as a way to wrap up our visit to Chicago, and it did not disappoint. Food that is to die for, from the bread, to the wine, and of course, to the steaks. Everything that we ate exceeded our expectations and just made for a very pleasant evening. Our waiter was very kind and made great recommendations for what food we should have. A night to remember!
The drinks selection was poor. No Blender in the restaurant and no fresh fruit juices in the restaurant at all. The waiters dumped our food in the take home containers. Some training is needed for personnel to not dump bread, vegetables steak sauce and steak in a box pile of food...no care, class or consideration for take home packaging.
Sarah was excellent, food delicious. We sat on the patio and it was a little noisy but overall a great experience
The food tasted better then I thought Everybody treated us with the highest quality of respect. The two mangers made sure we was happy with our order. Our waiter was very polite & explain the menu to us which made it easier for us to order
Restaurant is huge, had 9:45 reservations, and place was pretty empty. Could have easily just walked in earlier without a reservation on open table. Came here for anniversary, restaurant gave a card with Happy Anniversary which was a nice touch. Service was great. Food for the money was not good. Bread rolls were good, got shrimp appetizer which was also good. Steak was not good compared to Bavette's or RPM steak. Way overpriced to just be "ok". Got mushroom side and au gratin potatoes, which were just ok. Drinks were just ok. Manager came over which was nice to ask how the food was. Dessert was also comped on the house for anniversary. Overall would not go back because of how expensive it was to just be "ok".
Entire experience was AMAZING! We celebrated our anniversary with Steak 48 and they laid out the red carpet, we’ll definitely be returning.
Excellent food and service! Great atmosphere .
Birthday. Steak 48 treated my wife like a Queen.
Went to Steak 48 for a friend's birthday. Food was phenomenal; service excellent. Birthday treat at the end of the meal was amazing. Looking forward to a return visit.
Everything was amazing! We celebrated my boyfriend's birthday and they brought out a nice complimentary dessert for him. The bone-in filet mignon, au gratin potatoes, corn creme brulee were all really delicious. I definitely would recommend trying this restaurant if you have never been before. The staff were all really great, too!
Excellent meal combined with excellent service.
I would definitely recommend and will absolutely return.
Great Environment ! Outstanding customer service!!
Douglas was excellent waiter! Food and service amazing! Loved it!!!!
Fine dining at its best. Customer service was awesome, our waitress Sarah was amazing. The food was impeccable. Steak cooked to perfection. This is now my favorite fine dining restaurant when I visit Chicago. It was truly worth the wait.
My 16 year old son picked this place because he loves steak. It was so beautiful inside. I have never felt more welcomed in a restaurant. Every server we walked by said hello or welcome. Service was fast and knowledgeable about the menu. Food was absolutely delicious. We have been to a lot of steak places and this was by far one of our favorites!
Great food and great service. Onion rings should be added to the sides. The restaurant has several rooms with varying noise levels. Be sure to ask when making reservations. The hostess was able to seat us in an area that was happening but not deafening.
FANTASTIC IN EVERY WAY!! Much thanks to our server, Chris!
In for the BMW Championship, the place is pretty spectacular if I should say so myself. Started off with a little seafood (Crab meat) some devil shrimp eggs, server guided us towards the Butchers cut and I’ll tell you I’ve had all the expensive cuts around the world and this is one of my favorites. We also had some cluster of Crab which blew us away, the evening was wonderfully curated by our server Marcus who was equally amazing. My only gripe is we forgot our dessert celebrating my wife....... I’ll be back cuddos to Marcus and his assisting team
Amazing accommodations for gluten free options. Our server was extremely mindful and double checked with the chef regarding specific food items prior to ordering. Their main menu now also indicated GF options, nice to not have to ask for a separate menu. Appetizers, steaks and sides were all delicious. Would go back time and time again!
Had a dinner reservation for 9 people. When arrived for reservation me (the party host was called MR. not Ms.) Going to our table our host made me and my guest walk up the stairs, there was no mention of a elevator (we saw it once we made it up the stairs) asked her about it and she said “oh I forgot.” When paying, the manager told me I was a $100 short. I had a hard time paying my bill because they have a new gratuity rule going on in the restaurant, the waiter says one thing but manager says another. Staff is not on the same page as far as rules. We also were seated all alone no other people around which made the environment a little awkward. I was not pleased after hearing great things about the restaurant I gave it a try and was disappointed, Me and my party guest could have went else where and got a better experience.
Best steak I have ever eaten! I must. Experience
Best steakhouse in Chicago by far!
My family loves Steak 48. Not only is the food exceptional, but the service and ambiance are second to none in Chicago. We have eaten at Steak 48 multiple times since it opened, and I’d encourage everyone reading this to make a reservation sometime soon. You will be happy that you did.
Had high hopes for Steak 48 since we were going there for our 37th Anniversary and were impressed with the Check Please review we saw. We stated at the bar and the drinks we ordered were excellent. We then moved to our table and were greeted by a charming anniversary card and our exceptional server. We ordered the king crab avocado stack which was delicious. We were off to a good start. We decided to switch to wine for the remainder of the night. It is impressive that they offer 9oz pours but their prices are about 60% higher ($32 vs $18) for 50% more wine, so no deal. For our main course, my wife ordered a salmon poke special and the roasted brussels sprouts and I ordered the bone-in ribeye, my usual go to at any steakhouse. We also ordered the truffle fries and corn cream brulee which were terrific. My wife was not impressed with her tough salmon "sashimi" not poke. Unfortunately my steak was the real issue of the night. The first one that was brought to the table was tough and had no taste so I sent it back. For $59 you expect to get a wonderful steak. They quickly brought back a new steak that tasted much better but was still not very tender. I have eaten many many bone-in ribeyes around the US at places like Three Forks, Delmonicos, Perrys, and Captial Grill. None of them had as much gristle as this steak. I have had better ribeyes from Costco I have cooked myself. I was very disappointed. The only saving graces for the evening were our fantastic server and Steak 48's company policy not to charge us for the bad steak. Because of that we may give them another chance in the future.
What a great Birthday Experience!! Everything from the service to food was outstanding!!
Our server was great and we didn't feel rushed. It was busy on a Monday night! we love the place as we have been there multiple times.
Sat at the bar. Other than a random odd smell it was great. The bartenders said it was a known issue.
It was the best restaurant experience ever . Stuff was really cool and nice. Even they decorated our table with rose peddles which extra:). My wife and I was so happy to be there, enjoyed great 22 oz stake, oysters and salmon. I think it’s the best stake in Chicago so far I have tried. Thank you guys! We will definitely knock your door again!:)
My party was treated very well. No complaints. Everything was perfect! This place makes me not ever want to go anywhere and except mediocre service. I will definitely be back.
Had my birthday celebration and love everything about the restaurant.
Zee was our server and he was excellent! I went with his recommendations and I wasn’t disappointed. The food was cooked with love and I enjoyed every bite.
The butcher’s cut was the best steak I have ever eaten. The heirloom tomato salad was excellent. My wife’s crab cakes were too much for her to eat and as good as Baltimore’s. Premium price for premium food. I had two perfect Sazeracs.
Great restaurant all over! Fantastic service, food, and ambiance. Always feel like a VIP every time we come.
Food and service were impeccable- can’t wait to go back
Sat upstairs on the outdoor patio with a group of four. Service was impeccable as was the food. Ordered the off menu butchers cut at market price; it was amazing, but pricey. If money is no object, order it and you will be amazed at the quality and taste; highly recommended. The other entrees were the scallops and the filet mignon. It was the first time for other three and they were all impressed with everything. Overall it's worthy of a top 10 ranking of Chicago steak houses
I really enjoyed myself, food was excellent, service was fantastic; however it would be helpful in having more light at the table when viewing the menu. It's really dark in the restaurant. I do understand it's creating an atmosphere of intimacy upscale environment but older people like myself vision has decline and the light along with their readers.
Celebrated our 25th anniversary at Steak 48 and everything was amazing! We will definitely go back!
