Spice Temple Sydney
Spice Temple’s menu pays homage to and draws inspiration from the provinces of Sichuan, Yunnan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Guangxi and Xinjiang.
While Spice Temple’s food is designed for the shared table, so too is the wine list with an interesting and exciting selection of exactly 100 Australian and imported wines.
Food won’t even taste good , it not worth the price
In general every food preparation was way too salty, prep needs to be revisited to make it palatable.
Great service, good atmosphere.
Great food, service outstanding, crunchy chow mein and chilies facing heaven awesome!
Food was great as always. Service was lacking - they seemed to be quite understaffed the day we were there.
Waited 10 minutes to be seated. No one at the counter. Hostess seemed bothered when she arrived. Booking not found. Had to produce open table app otherwise it seemed we weren’t going to be seated. Waiter improved the night from a poor start.
I booked dinner for my husbands birthday, also noted it on the booking. The waitstaff for our area seemed very flustered, despite mostly empty seats and generally ignored us minus the required 1 x drink order and 1 x food order. Other areas were also celebrating their birthdays and were presented with cakes, but we had nothing. Food was INCREDIBLE, three milk cake was to die for, but overall expected more attentive service for a $300 bill.
Upon leaving we did receive 3 very cheerful goodbyes 🙄
I have been here many times and it has always been one of the top restaurants in Sydney in my opinion.
Sadly this is no longer the case, we had a very disappointing evening compounded by the fact that it was a birthday and I had reccomended this restaurant
Fabulous restaurant that never fails to impress with a menu that is distinctive, delicious and consistently surprising.
The food was chilli-hot and presented nicely but was not flavoursome or tasty. The meat dishes only had a small amount of meat compared to the heap of other toppings on the plate. The service was good. Overall, food was disappointing and not worth the prices charged. I will not be returning or recommending to others.
Fantastic as usual, amazing food and perfect service!
The service was outstanding
I have been to many restaurants and the sevice here was exceptional
Excellent as always, I normally dine at the Melbourne location, food was the same high quality, ambience not quite as good as Melbourne, but still very good. Highly recommend!
The atmosphere, ambience and food are all excellent and wine selection likewise. However, for a restaurant which is charging premium prices and with so many wait staff seemingly available, you would expect exceptional service. We basically had to wait for everything we ordered - drinks (multiple times) frequently took 10-15 minutes to arrive which is unacceptable when the order was 2 beers. Food dishes were server in an odd way - we had 1 dish on it's own and then 3 or 4 others, and then 1 on it's own.
All of the dishes were impeccably crafted and delicious. The Kung Pow Chicken stole the show but the remaining dishes came in a close second. The drinks were fantastic as well. Go hungry or go home.
Hostess was unfriendly. Waitress forgot half our food order because she didn’t write it down; food came in 2 segments 30 minutes apart.
Good service, bad food. Food overly sweet, not spicy, bland tasting.
We went with extreme high hopes after hearing only the best. Look, im no genius but “Spice Tempe” would logically suggest spicy food, right? especially when “the hottest” dishes are highlighted in red? But sometimes people just want to watch the world burn. Sometimes they want to crush your hopes and your dreams. 2/10 in spice coming for a non Asian/ Indian person. Despite service being fantastic, food was so average that we could have bought 20 Laksas at $10 a pop from Noodle Junction, thrown 18 away and it still would have been worth more than the $100 p/p we spent at Spice Temple.
Felt like a destination in itself.
OMG the food was divine, we had the dynasty banquet and cocktails - horse and pig. There was so much food and beautiful flavours. The menu varied from seafood, vegetarian to meat. You can choose from the menu or a choice of 2 set banquets at $79 or $99. The service is excellent and friendly. We were allocated 2 hours for our table but stayed slightly longer and didn't feel rushed at all. A memorable birthday celebration, thank you Spice Temple.
Brilliant food if you like your spice and very attentive service. Not badly priced for a top notch dinner.
Sadly visit was disappointing. Entree was dripping in oil. We ordered two mains and fried rice. One main and rice was served. 30 mins later when we had finished and another waiter had cleared our table, we were advised our other main wouldn't be too much longer. We had assumed waiter had forgotten to order. We said thanks but that's a bit late. The waiter was apologetic and removed the second dish from our bill. Could not fault service, but food that we did receive wasn't anything amazing.
I've dined at Rockpool group before and absolutely loved it. Two things I did not like was that our waiter did not offer to take out coats, which we had to lug around our seats which because quite annoying. Every other diner we're offered to have their coats taken. Another thing was the rice was charged at 4pp but on the receipt it was 16, and it was evident they made a large batch as it was very dry and rather cold. Other than that food was great
Excellent food with great service in a very nice location!
Excellent meal food was fantastic but the service was the real winner menu explained in the beginning made for a fantastic experience by all at the table
Very, very disappointing. I had been to Spice Temple a couple of years ago and loved it. I took a friend there on Thursday to thank her for years of loyal friendship. The Open Table booking system and the duck pancakes were the only things I'd recommend. The service was simply terrible. Dismissive, clumsy, inappropriate, misunderstanding are just a few words to describe it. I would normally tip 10% for adequate service. I tipped nothing. It wouldn't even rate a tip in a cheap suburban Chinese restaurant. I explained this to the gentleman who settled the bill. He assured me they would be in contact so I gave him my details. No contact. Never again Spice Temple.
great food, great wine , great atmosphere
Food was amazing! Service on this night was probably the best we've ever had at this restaurant. Not as spicy compared to previous visits but still delicious! 'Pig' Cocktail is our go-to and is always a good match with all dishes. We will be back!
Spice Temple is a very good restaurant that could be excellent with a few improvements. The service was poor and very inattentive, at one point we waited 25mins for a glass of wine. The food on the other hand was lovely, we thoroughly enjoyed all of the dishes we had, I'd definitely return to try some more. The menu is slightly over priced compared to similar restaurants that are just as good so if you are after value for money this probably isn't the best spot.
I've always recommended the ST it to friends. My favourite has been the hot and numbing duck! However after the last visit I don't think I can recommend it anymore. This time I had the hot and numbing pork. But it was almost inedible due to extreme saltiness that overwhelmed any other dimension. The side of greens was also over salted (Oyster Sauce). My partner's chicken dish was better, but still quite salty. I used to love the wonderfully complex flavours at ST but sadly I won't be going back.
Dark, sensual and seductive surrounds. Food is Neil Perry at his Asian best and has been going steady for many years now. Still looks cutting edge.
Food is excellent as are the cocktails. Extensive wine list, yet only a few wines by the glass, most of which, not perfect for this cuisine (chardonnay not great for hot and spicy).
Service is a little sporadic. A couple of waiters appeared disinterested. Pity, they could have gained a nice tip if they had tried.
Overall excellent restaurant.
The food and atmosphere were amazing.
Only thing that let them down was the multiple staff that served our table and the slow drink service.
Had a great romantic ambiance with dark atmosphere but great lighting so you could actually see what you are eating. The red highlighted dishes, considered quite hot, was not actually hot. I know since I can't take hot food. Loved the raw kingfish with an unusual crushed black sesame sauce/oil. The squid was delicious but could be better with more spice or chillies.
Some of the best food in Sydney. Neil Perry has chosen fantastic Chinese flavors and combined them with fresh local ingredients. The menu changes regularly, and we keep going back to try the new things and have the favorites again.
Amazing food love it
Overall the food was very good (Hunan Pork Ribs were outstanding as was the Trevalla). Service was slow probably due to the restaurant being absolutely full on a Friday night. Chow Mein was a little too salty but great textually. Had the Rockpool Chardonnay which was very well matched with the spice in the food.
Our waitress was phenomenal.
Food was amazing.
Wine and cocktails fantastic!
We were really disappointed. The atmosphere was nice and the staff pleasant but the food was incredibly disappointing. The flavours weren't very good and we had to fish around for meat within piles of filler (eg onion/chilli/szechaun). Sydney has fantastic Asian food and this doesn't even remotely compete. It is incredibly overpriced - you can get far better Asian (for significantly less) in China Town. The best thing we had was the cucumber, which says a lot. I couldn't recommend it to anyone
Great tasting food with wonderful and helpful staff.
Spice Temple is normally one of our favourite restaurants unfortunately this time it wasn't great.
Service was poor, food wasn't up to normal standard, table of 4 men that were within elbow distance to us were loud & swearing & dominated the atmosphere.
We were their to celebrate my partners birthday but Spice Temple failed on this occasion.
Another thing that turned me off is that Spice Temple automatically put a CC fee on your bill they did this last time even though we pay with cash.
