About Spice Temple - Crown Melbourne
Spice Temple, Melbourne is located over two levels, the two dining rooms and two semi-private dining rooms are warm and dramatically lit, and while there is an emphasis on comfort and experience rather than a certain theme, the spaces are intimate, relaxed and sexy, with subtle influences of the exotic street hawker food markets in China.
Seasoned with an unmistakable Chinese flavour, Spice Temple’s unique and truly special dishes are driven by a long fostered passion for Asian cuisine and delights the senses with its contrasting tastes and textures.
While Spice Temple’s food is designed for the shared table, so too is the wine list with an interesting and exciting selection of exactly 100 Australian and imported wines.

Spice Temple - Crown Melbourne Ratings and Reviews
15 minute wait with no service at the bar, despite being one of only three tables occupied. A further 15 mins at the table waiting for our drinks (two beers out of bottles and cans - and one simple cocktail). Three staff asking us for our drink order completely out of sync and not communicating. Wine poured into half full glasses of people away at the bathroom left to go warm; last wine in our bottle heaved into one of party's glasses - filling it - while others remained almost dry. Bad bad bad.
We had a wonderful time at Spice Temple last night. Like always, great food, great company, wonderful staff. Our waiter was fantastic. He had a great personality, offered excellent recommendations and was always happy to help. I wish I got his name but he is definitely an asset to your team.
Unfortunately, I cannot say it was a good dining experience. The food was not at all what I expected. The Gung Pao chicken was way too salty and there were more chillies than pieces of chicken really! The Hot and Numbing Wagyu beef was anything but hot and numbing and was extremely chewy :( and the rice was fairly salty too!! Was really disappointed
The food had plenty of flavour and was well presented and we had the banquet menu with matching wines to get a good variety. The only down side is that after asking on two separate occasions for the food to slow down, the food and wine still came out at a very fast pace and we felt as though we were being rushed out for the next booking. That removed any welcoming feeling as they appeared to just be focused on churning out the customers. Of note, i'm quite a fast eater and still felt rushed.
I have absolutely loved the food & experience at Spice temple every time I have dined there however on my last occasion (Sat 20th) I was so so disappointed & surpised with the service. We were booked for the 8:30pm slot Yet on arrival our table wasn't ready & the guy at the desk who greeted us prettt much said it was bad luck & we needed to wait down stairs at the bar. Then when we were finally seated it took quite a while to be served or even get a menu until we asked & our order was stuffed up
The dining experience was not special. Overrated, overpriced, the food lacked subtlety.
In a word: underwhelming
The pork was so over spiced you could not tast it: the coconut pannacota was acidic from too much citrus and I'm sorry: $50 for four prawns: really?
This is an exceptional restaurant that I have now dined at twice.
during those 2 visits I tried many different dishes and found them all to be of the finest quality.
Add to that the staff were fabulous.
This is a MUST return for us.
Pricing is a bit high but I assume the high rent accounts for that.
Phenomenal food, every dish was outstanding and left us wishing there was more on the plate. Like nothing I have had before.
Service let it down, little to none for the last half of our night. Didn't even get offered coffee or tea with out desserts. Just dropped on the table and the bill arrived shortly after.
Came for dinner here with friends with high expectations. Knew it would be expensive and didn't mind. But honestly coming from an Asian background, realised I much prefer traditional Chinese and not the modernized version.
Most items on the menu was spicy to very spicy (i always thought I had a reasonable tolerance for hot food).
Chargrilled wagyu beef was by far the best dish. We also ordered the wontons, lamb dumplings, crab with xo, Chargrilled prawns and crispy duck.
Thumbs down for price increase.
The service was ok but our waitress kept pressuring us to order drinks after we politely declined drinks to the point of being uncomfortable.
The waitress who took our payment was quite haughty and rude which is unlike spice temple staff as we dine there quite often.
Food was good
