This was our second time to Sophie's and it was fabulous both times. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious and the restaurant is adorable. We love it here.
I love this place. Great food, service and ambiance. I live about an hour away so I don’t go as often as I like. It’s also good for a romantic-yet-casual date.
Sophie's is just wonderful! The food is delicious. The bar area can get a little loud, but we were there early, so not a problem. Had several appetizers among the four of us. Best french onion soup I've ever had! Onion tart was yummy, as was the asparagus appetizer special with chopped egg. Each of us had different appetizers. My daughter tried someone else's lamb shank on her first visit but ordered one for herself. Did not disappoint! Other daughter had the catfish special. A little heavy on the breading for her, but tastes were lovely. Husband had the salmon special and thought it superb. I had the paneed pork loin. YUMMY! Had several desserts too (creme brulee, blackberry dessert, lime sorbet and chocolate lava cake). All were great. Highly recommend!
The food is always incredible. Service is outstanding. Never ever disappointed
Every meal at Sophie's is like a mini vacation. A truly special place.
Our favorite restaurant in NJ. Great menu, delicious food , exceptional service and wonderful bar. Always a great night.
Great place, great food and great ownet! Fantastic atmosphere.
Love this place! A little extra noisy tonight, but service and food always great. Wonderful ambiance and great value. Never disappointed!
Love the food. The owner is really nice. Very nice ambience
Expensive, food was good, side room was loud.
Always wonderful! You will be hooked and want to become a steady customer!
my wife Diane and I had a wonderful dinner from spicy pumpkin soup to scallops and braised short ribs great wines desserts and coffees
Great food and service, owner interacts with guests, very nice
Always love coming here! You feel very welcome and it's nice and lively. The servers are always very friendly and very attentive and the owner always walks around and talks to the patrons.
We both started with a cocktail and then ordered dinner. I had my favorite salad, the frisbee with bacon lardons, a poached egg and the house vinaigrette. The dressing is well balanced and not overly vinegar heavy which some vinaigrettes can be. My husband had the salad with smoked salmon. He loved it!
For entree's we both ordered the Choucroute special which was 3 sausages, one smoked , one made of veal and another type I don't remember it's main meat. All were delicious and served with a sauerkraut with apple. It was a nice accompaniment to the sausages. The owner said he gets the sausages from a guy in PA, at certain times of the year. They were perfect! My husband finished with a warm, chocolate cake that he thought was perfect.
I would definitely recommend this neighborhood gem!!!
Went for the last day of crepe week and of course we were mot disappointed. Highly recommend this little gem to anyone look for casual traditional french restaurant. One of our favs.
In addition to having consistently excellent food, the owner, Peter, is there to make long time andr new patrons feel welcomed. All in all, it is the best restaurant in Somerset.
The food was very good. The portions were not excessive but that suited us fine since we prefer quality to quantity. We are not wine experts, but the house red was good and also a good value. Dessert was excellent. The atmosphere was very nice, but since we were there on a Saturday night it was very loud. Even though we had a fairly late reservation and no one was waiting, we felt a bit rushed. We did not have appetizers, but even so, our entrees arrived very quickly. We were given our check just as we started our dessert and coffee. Seemed a little hurried to me.
Good food, unfriendly waitress with attitude, loud venue with terrible accoustics- hard to hear and unlikely to return.
The French Bistro atmosphere in the main dining room is wonderful. Not so much in the side room. But as much as we love the ambiance of the main room, the noise level of both rooms is too loud for good conversation on crowded nights. They really need some sound-absorbing ceiling material and maybe carpeting, especially in the side room. Otherwise go at uncrowded times.
Always have good time dining here. You won't be disappointed.
The food was excellent as was the service. The wait staff were very accommodating as two additional persons joined our party.
The food was wonderful, if a bit expensive (drinks are a little too expensive, too). Service, while friendly, is very slow. It’s a lively, and therefore noisy, place.
It was a wonderful meal as always. Peter is an excellent host!
We were disappointed with our experience at Sophie's, having been going to the last five years. The scallops entree and the two duck breast entrees were "warm" in temperature and not hot. The French onion soup did the taste the same as last year - did not have that rich taste. This is the second time in a row that food was presented and it was not hot.
Our absolutely favorite restaurant! Going to Sophie's is a trip to our very own Paris Bistro! Great food and great service every single time!
We had a great meal before hitting a show in downtown New Brunswick. Escargot was wonderful as well as the lamb shank. Warm, friendly and welcoming with a great bar. As always highly recommended. Make sure you make a reservation as the place was packed.
We have eaten at Sophie’s several times over the past two years and have really liked it.The service is good and the restaurant is quite cozy but
on our last two visits we walked away a little disappointed each time in the food.Same dishes that we always order but not prepared as well as in the past...
Delightful respite from a busy day. We had lunch and are hoping to return for dinner very soon.
The food was not only tasty but nicely portrayed. We give it high marks!
We love all the food at Sophie's! There special menus are terrific. This time it was "Crepe-fest" Delicious crepes both savory and sweet!
It's been years that we've been enjoying Sophie's. It's our Go-to place to take out of towners; meet friends, and celebrate family occasions. Never disappoints.
Never disappoints. Finally able to try the crepe fest. Awesome.
We loved this charming bistro and would highly recommend it!
I received notification for Sophies that the were celebrating crepes as they do for 2 weeks every year. A friend and I came specifically to savor the crepes and we were definitely not disappointed! My friend has the seafood crepe and I had the spicy shrimp crepe. Both contained plentiful amounts of seafood with mushrooms and other delights. As usual the desserts were wonderful. I had a lemon sorbet my friend had the creme brûlée. Adding to the wonderful small Provence feel is the frequent presence of Peter, the owner, who circulates among his guests.
Great bistro. Best French onion soup anywhere.
What an excellent restaurant. Wide ranging menu and nice wine list. Free parking and easy to get to. Something for everyone here with friendly professional service. My wife said the decor reminded her of being in France. Try a lot of small plates and share. Very tasty food here.
A fun place with great food and service.
Love this place..Especially the duck. I can’t say anything negative about this place. My favorite
We love going to Sophie's Bistro. The food, service, and ambiance are wonderful. It's a great place to celebrate or just a night out for dinner. Sophie's is highly recommended!
Food is so good we had to be rolled out!!!!
