Housed in an historic bluestone piece of Fitzroy history (the oldest pub In the neighborhood, once frequented by Bob Marley!), a meal at Smith & Daughters promises a tasty good time for all.
Always great vegan food & fabo staff.
Amazing chopped slaw & breaky pizza.
We have been to smith and daughters twice for celebration dinners and have enjoyed it so much I rave about it to anyone who’ll listen. As an omnivore I can say the food is outstanding and certainly don’t miss eating animal products (in many ways this food is better tasting).
Do yourself a favour and get there now!
Recommend the feast me option.
Amazing experience. Feed me was so generous and delicious. Great atmosphere. Can’t wait to go back!
Incredible food, great variety of drinks.
Smith & Daughters serves creative and delicious dishes, they also have very friendly staff.
Love that you can pre-order cakes and serve them at the end of your reservation. The chocolate cake is sooo good and moist.
It’s objectively amazing. As in not good FOR vegan but good REGARDLESS. I’m not even a vegan but a flexitarian. Just go! Perfect place for a catch up dinner with an old friend I hadn’t seen in years - ambient and fun but still good for conversation. Can’t wait to go back and eat the rest of the menu
It was awesome! You won't believe that everything on the menu is vegan!
Another amazing dining experience at our favourite restaurant. The baby eggplant and Caesar salad were definite highlights!
Lovely and the staff were very accommodating for us! Thanks guys
The noise when we first arrived was ear shattering. So much could be done to improve acoustics without compromising ambience. The service was friendly and efficient. The food, while generally good, was not as good as I expected. The cabbage dish was great as was the aubergine dish. The meatballs were not great and really, we didn’t understand the necessity to allude to meat and then not really pull it off well. Just celebrate being vegan and go for it with newly imagined excellence. The deserts were average. Give up on the tiramisu and go for fresh, fruity and textured dishes was our advice. Show us something new.
We had lunch so I was a bit disappointed that it was only a breakfast type menu. Dinner is a far better menu choice.
went out of curiosity, and was pleasantly surprised and impressed. I'm not vegan or vegetarian, but I'd go back in a heartbeat because it delivers on flavour and inventiveness.
Really enjoyed our dinner at smith & daughters. Even if it says plates are meant to be shared, we (2) enjoyed having a small plate plus bread as starter and two large plate as mains. The large plates were extremely good (loved that week‘s special!), the small plate (chickpeas) not very creative, the garlic bread was a rather cheap type of bread. The espresso was sour. Something wrong with the machine or it’s settings! The service was very helpful, quick, and made this evening a nice experience!
My non vegan friend and I went to Smith & Daughters for a special plant based night out. The food was outstanding but the service was a little sketchy to start then warmed up. We wanted to experience all the food so chose the feed me option. When the first course came out it was a number of small dishes. The service provider virtually plonked the dishes on the table in front of us without announcing what the dishes were. Luckily the diners at the table next to us saw our confusion and explained what it was and the best way to eat it. Other than that we would happily go again but maybe make it clear we'd like to know what we are eating.
This restaurant serves great food, the service was perfectly adequate and certainly friendly.
Food quality I thought was top-notch although my partner found one of the pasta dishes a bit bland, my impression of that same dish was very different to hers. This was my first visit to Smith and daughters I thought that the ambience was great. The restaurants had a terrific feel and I would certainly go back to try more items from the menu.
The “Feast Me” option was amazing! Really great for a special occasion. It took the worry out of over ordering or under ordering and allowed us to sit back relax and talk. The staff serving us seemed passionate about each dish which made it a little more exciting. Will be back for sure.
Great everything! I can't believe I waited so long to go. Silly me
Delicious and fresh plant-based menu that looks and tastes like it’s prepared by people who love what they do.
Service is outstanding - attentive, fun, helpful but not hovering.
Music a bit too loud and didn’t match the mood of the room. When I’m eating out I shouldn’t have to talk over the music.
Couldn't decide what to order so we had the feed me option and were not disappointed, everything was delicious! The staff are lovely and service was quick
I absolutely loved the food, the carbonara and the eggplant were exceptional. My husband had the meatballs, delicious as well. If I had one bit of criticism is that the meals for the price are tiny, entree size not main meal size. I think they should make the portions a bit bigger. In saying that the food was absolutely delicious
Amazing !! Can’t wait to come back already! Highly recommend
The food was amazing! However we felt that the servers were rather disengaged and not interested in serving us or explaining the dishes- overall not so welcoming.
I have been here several times and food and service is always excellent. They had sold out of a couple of dishes I had really wanted to try which is the only reason I didn't give food 5 stars. What we did have was still very good. Service is the best I have ever had anywhere. Large variety of vegan friendly alcohol and they make fabulous cocktails both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. We had 3 dishes that were generous, 4 alcoholic drinks and 2 non-alcoholic cocktails, total came to around $104. My top recommendation in Melbourne to go to.
Food was pretty good but more expensive and less tasty than previous menus! And the tables are placed very close together so it’s hard to have private conversations
Smith and Daughters has been a consistent favourite for years. The staff go the extra mile to ensure you have a great night, and the food never disappoints. We were allowed to move to another table and stay 2 hours after our initial booking ended to finish chatting over cocktails. 10/10 would recommend.
A great restaurant for vegan food with a difference. Went with my daughters ( their first time) and we all really loved the experience. Will be back in the not too distant future
Very noisy, but great food
Brilliant as always! Brunch was delicious. Followed by coffees and take homes for later from the deli. Love love love!
Lovely atmosphere, delicious food and wonderful service. Can't wait to return and try more dishes.
Loved this place. Quite unique food. The McLaren Vale Shiraz was very good. Loved the pea and bean dip and the risotto. The eggplant was sensational too. Nice ambience. Not noisy. Didn’t feel rushed to finish. Just a lovely dining experience with very interesting food.
We really enjoyed our night here. The service was quick and the servers all very knowledgeable on the dishes. Very friendly team all around. delicious cocktails & vino too. We all had the feasting style menu which was delicious. Sooooo much food. Loved trying everything and being inspired by the creations. Great night out.
Was great, I got the spaghetti and meat balls. The portion size was a little small though, which puts me off coming back again as it's quite expensive.
Am not a vegan and was one of the best meals I've had in Melbourne
First time their and wow! The food is delicious, I would highly recommend the vodka meatballs. We had 5/6 small dishes to share which was a perfect amount. Good value and great service.
Would have to be the best vegan food I have ever had.
It was my birth and they really made an effort to make it special.
I love in Newcastle but will be going back to Melbourne just to eat here.
Nice place. Looks good. Limited options foodwise. Mine was a bit stodgy. Not overly sold on veganism but still enjoyed the experience. Staff were friendly.
Service was much slower than expected and the staff didn't seem that happy to be there
The atmosphere, food and staff were absolutely spot on. So refreshing to have a varied, delicious and well thought out vegan menu, and I loved the artwork on the walls. Will definitely recommend to everyone!
We waited over an hour for flatbread & homus. What we assume we be the first item out, was actually the last. Usually a great place, but definitely won't be back. All our plates we brought out individually, instead of a share scenario as usual. Utterly disappointed.
The Caparccio and Tiramisu were our favourite dishes of the evening. The shredded Caesar, roast beef and apple terrine were disappointing. When we sat down, our friendly server let us know that the table was ours for 1.5 hours before the next booking arrived. Our meals felt rushed and we were asked to vacate our table and move to the bar before properly finishing dessert and our wine. If you want a quick meal, this place would be great, but if you'd like to take your time and enjoy.....it's not ideal.
