Smith & Daughters is the collaboration of two women with a strong commitment to bring the world delicious food.

Shannon Martinez, award-winning, former head chef of Sweet Water Inn, South, and The Gasometer among others, combines her talents with the business and marketing logistical mind of Mo Wyse to undertake their best challenge yet - creating their own restaurant. Being in the service industry for a combined 35 years - these two gals are proud to bring you Smith & Daughters.

Martinez and Wyse share the common goal for creating a truly beautiful space to enjoy great food. In their new home, a historic bluestone corner property on Brunswick Street Smith & Daughters now brings you innovative, plant- based Italian.

We highly recommend the feed me option - we went in hungry and came out so full! All the food tastes amazing, and this way you don’t miss out on anything delicious. And it was all delicious! The staff was attentive, polite and had an in-depth knowledge of everything we were served. We all appreciated their efforts to make sure we were comfortable and the speed in which they took care of our requests. The entire experience was wonderful, we’ll definitely be back, hopefully soon!

Food was delish, but we ordered a tiramisu that never came. We weren't charged for it and ended up going to Smith and Deli for some pastries anyway so no great loss.

My beautiful date is vegan so we went to her favourite restaurant.
My first experience with vegan food and I could not have been more impressed. Fantastic waiting staff, cocktails and amazing food.

A night when you transformed a meat eater into a vegan explorer.
I have been to you several times over the past 6 years and each time it get's better, but Friday 17/5 was amazing. When first telling my partner John of Smith and Daughters, I said the restaurant will take you on a journey you won't want to return from....And Friday night we arrived, he instantly loved the atmosphere, we sat at the communal table, ordered drinks - he was slowly falling in love! Then he opened the menu and from there the journey began for the next 2 hours. With his taste senses bursting, his ears were equally, as he listened to some of England's best rock bands. We ate crochette di Testa, Pasta con beef ragu, Trippa alla Romana, finishing with a spiced quince chestnut crumble served with an amaretto ice cream...And as we lay in Fitzroy Gardens on a sunny Sunday afternoon, looking back on our weekend away (from upper NSW), he looked and me and said, when can we return to Smith and Daughters?

The very first thing they say to you is that you have to leave in an hour and a half. This seems rude to me. The food was good but the place was extremely loud and the prices were very high.

Waited for 60 minutes for food to arrive then questioned Staff who apologised and brought a free slaw salad (wow) and eventually our meal arrived. They did however remove the drinks from our bill.
I was disappointed that we had to enquire about our meal as I would have thought that good Staff would have noticed that we had been sitting for 1 hour without anything on our table apart from drinks.

What a great way to celebrate Mother's Day. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating given some additional dietary needs. The brunch feed me option was delicious and had lots of options for everyone. This option was definitely worth the value for money and I would highly recommend this to anyone who isn't sure what they are feeling. We will be back!

So happy to have finally dined at Smith & Daughters I was looking forward to this vegan feast for ages and finally I got to try the meatball sub and it was divine. Next time I would love to go back for dinner, I am looking forward to that :D

I’ve admired Smith & Daughters from afar (being from out near Canberra) for many years, so was super keen to visit when I was in Melbourne. I admit I was a little worried that my expectations were too high and that it had little chance to attain the standards I’d constructed internally. But, man, was I wrong. The food exceeded expectations and then the ambience took it up a notch...oh yeah and the background music choice was the cherry on top. 👌🏼

Forced to share a table with strangers on an anniversary dinner, even when booking ahead. Just because you’re a vegan restaurant doesn’t mean you need to act like a potato.

Smith and Daughters never disappoints and it was great to try their brunch menu as we normally do dinner. My partner and I love taking non-vegans there and this experience our guests were really impressed too.

Nice atmosphere, the food was ok, was not very impressed. I would have preferred to know the real ingredient than to read cheese and meat all over the menu which are fake versions.

I’ve had much nicer meals there before and was excited to go back.
But I chose a bad meal. Chicken Paccatta.
My friend loved it tho and it was his first time.
He ordered well and chose the meatballs :)

Extremely delicious food - my only qualm was that there wasn't enough of it! I felt like for the price, the portions should've been a bit larger. My partner and I ordered 2 entrees and 2 mains to share, and we left still a bit hungry. Again, VERY delicious, we just wanted more!

Everything about Smith & Daughters is amazing. We had a group of 8 people, we did the feast me menu and let the staff pick our dishes - I would highly recommend this option if you have a big group. We had the best range of plates come out - everyone was in awe over the food and flavour. The staff really really really looked after us. None of my family are vegetarian or vegan and everyone of them said they couldn’t wait to come back! And the kicker, everyone of them left with a completed changed mindset of vegan food - each of them asking to borrow my copy of Vegan Eats cookbook!

Our visit was to celebrate our daughter, Jessica’s 21st birthday. She is vegan & loves S&D. She was a bit stressed as her father is a keen meat eater. She was desperately hoping he would like the food. He LOVED it!!! Fabulous service, amazing food and great ambience. Husband & I are aging as is our hearing & seeing (lol) so had a bit of trouble hearing and seeing but hey, that’s life. Thanks for a great night.

I visited back in October after waiting 4 years to come.to this place and it blew my mind!! So of course I had to come back. Food as usual was incredible, although portions of the same mains and dessertts had decreased but price was the same (and its not so cheap). They also changed the cream in the millie feuille to coconut cream instead of limencello which was soooo sad cause limencello is the bomb. Anyhow, amazing ragu and snitzel is always a winneras is cocktails

Service is fantastic, food comes out super quick so if you wanna eat slowly you might wanna let them know to slow down but That’s not a complaint I love it !!!!’

Yes, but the only reason is because of the ragu polenta dish. Obnoxiously overpriced for what you get!!! $25 for a simple pasta that was finished in 4 mouthfuls??? Tables were so close together that it was uncomfortable to have conversations with others listening in. Left feeling annoyed and extremely disappointed.

I loved this place because of the fantastically inventive menu given it's completely plant-based. With the variety of textures, flavours and presentation you really don't miss anything at all, particularly when the menu is still calling things by their traditional 'animal' name eg calamari. I did think the food was a little overly salty but this is such a common trend now and not just unique to S&D. Don't miss the potato pave! The service was great - friendly and efficient with each dish carefully explained on arrival at the table - and the atmosphere was buzzy on a weekend night.

As a Sydney foodie, I've been wanting to try Smith & Daughters for yeaaaaars and I was impressed with your attentive and friendly service, warm ambiance and culinary experience! As a pescatarian, I love eating my seafood and vegetables and I particularly enjoyed your fried potato with seaweed caviar and all the flavoursome pasta you offered (we ordered 3 different types)! We were recommended by our friend Jonathan (who works at S & D) to try your Chocolate & Hazelnut Tartufo and it was amazing - just like a Ferrero Rocher in a gelato! It was the perfect way to celebrate my friend's birthday over a delicious dinner/feast and I want to thank our lovely server who arranged free sparklers and a lighter for my own BYO candles on our desserts - it's these kind of magical touches that really make the dining experience extra special so thank you. I cannot wait to come back and explore the rest of your menu! Much love, Maya

Outstanding - delicious and highly unusual take on vegan cooking. Pink rice paper "proscuitto" worked marvellously with coconut "parmesan" which was in flavour spot on. Schnitzel was marvellously fried. Every dish left you in disbelief that you were eating vegetables. Kudos to chef Shannon, whose talent and firmly omnivorous nature I applaud - I feel she would not have been able to accomplished her magical vision if she were vegan. As I am sure if common at Smith & Daughters, my husband left mumbling that if all vegan food were this good, he'd gladly give up meat. Hurrah.

From a chefs point of view, these were some of the best meals I have ever eaten. Regardless of being vegan. The thought, planning, trial and execution the kitchen team puts in to create these dishes is truly inspiring.

They portion sizes were crazy small! We got a plate of spaghetti literally filled for less than half the plate for $25!! According to them "the pepper was imported from Columbia (or somewhere), that's why it is so expansive", totally insane!
