Wonderful space with large patio. Food was delicious though the rib eye sides were extremely salty (carrot and kale). Everything else was perfect.
Our meals were delicious. The stone fruit salad was great, just a little salty, but went perfectly with the peaches. The homemade ricotta was divine. I had the rib eye steak for dinner. Very well prepared and seasoned. Our server wasn’t great. Very attentive, but two of our party were dairy and gluten free (which we told her multiple times) and she didn’t stop one of them from ordering something that was covered in butter. It was a great atmosphere and we had a great meal, but... it could have been better.
Next level GREAT! We had a fantastic meal here and felt like part of the Small Town family. We celebrated my daughter’s birthday and all the other guests were in a great mood and so friendly and wonderful. We will definitely go back.
Beautiful Patio and great food. Start with the rolls which are fresh and hot and out of this world. The butter is divine. We enjoyed sipping some Cava with our appetizers; spiced lamb ribs which we shared around the table. They had a mid eastern flair and we found amazing. We also had the prawn cavatelli with small bites of fresh prawns and a pasta that was cooked al dente, perfectly. The chicken dish with mushrooms and buttermilk was another huge hit with our group. Even the salad with market lettuce and cashews was an experience. This hidden gem is really spectacular!
One of the best meals I have had in LA. HANDS DOWN!
Atmosphere is fantastic. Food was mostly good. Shishito peppers would have been better without the fish shavings on top. Mussels were good, not great. Fried cabbage was fantastic. Dinner rolls with honey and butter were yummy. Caviatelli (sp?) was also very good. Dessert (some campfire thing) was good but way too small.
Great food, great service, really great outdoor dining.
The food was very light and tasty, and the menu not overwhelming. My friend has CIBO and was on a strict diet, and they were very gracious in accommodating her.
The ambiance was perfect, not too noisy, and we loved the design and layout of the place.
I have been to Small Town a handful of times since it opened. I really like the atmosphere and outdoor area and the food has been really good.
This last time I went however I took three new people there one of who is vegetarian... there weren't a lot of options for her and when she asked if she could get one of the sides from one of the main dishes since there weren't many options for her.
They were unable or unwilling to accommodate, and didn't really offer any other options and from a service aspect I feel not trying a bit harder to accommodate their guests especially being a somewhat new addition to the neighborhood.
Good food, friendly staff, and chill vibes. Favorite dish was the hanger steak.
Absolutely wonderful. What a great neighborhood gem.
Sitting outside on the patio in the evening was lovely. I really appreciated the waiter’s guidance on choosing a sake. It was delicious and not the most expensive. The dinner rolls are a must. We enjoyed dinner, stone fruit salad and the deconstructed ‘S’mores sundae and sake
Small Town is one of my favorite spots in Silver Lake. Great food. Fabulous spot.
Love their patio area as well as the indoor space. Atmosphere was charming and lovely, service was great and the food was delicious.
Really happy to have this as a new option in the neighborhood!
Fantastic restaurant, especially loved the dinner rolls. The ambiance in the garden was delightful.
Eat here! Such great ambiance. Inside is cozy and romantic, outside is perfect for those cooler summer nights - lots of foliage and great lighting. There aren’t enough nice patios like this one in LA! But most importantly the food was spectacular. Had the dinner rolls, WOW, hot out of the oven. Also the coconut black rice and prawn cavatelli - an explosion of flavors and everything is super fresh and cooked perfectly. Great selection of beer and wine and definitely try one of their house made “shrubs” - I had the strawberry and it’s basically like a spritzy kombucha drink. Service was friendly, quick and attentive. Can’t wait to go back.
The food presentation is a work of art but it’s so tasty and fresh/seasonal that you feel no guilt wolfing it down. Ambience is so cool but not pretentious and they have a wonderful wine list. A neighborhood gem.
The menu items are diverse and particularly delicious and unique. Only challenge is that the outdoor seating, while quaint and very pleasant, we were seated so close to another couple whose entire conversation could be overheard by all those seated in the patio. The tempura cabbage, roasted branzino and pork collar were perfectly cooked!
Creative cooking excellent experience wonderful ambiance on the patio
We were fans of Wolfdown and were sorry to see it go. But then the same group opened up Small Town as a friendlier more family oriented restaurant - in an attempt to not only be busy on weekends, but also keep people coming in on weekdays. Our first time at Small Town was quite good, but not mind-blowing. Beautiful quality of ingredients and everything well prepared, but it felt like we could make most of it at home. Still good enough to go back and find there is a new Chef de Cuisine who has really taken it up a notch! We had the mussels with coconut milk - delicious and perfectly cooked, pork collar (!?) with spinach spaetzle and veggies that was mind-blowing - if you ever wondered what the color green would taste like - this is it. And the hangar steak with unusual accompaniments. I think the wine list has shrunk, but there are still some interesting selections. By the glass is limited, but we did well. The only disappointment was the dessert list. Only 3 items and nothing that called our name. Maybe next time. There will definitely be a next time.
What a gem of a place. Outstanding service and great food.
Small Town's staff is attentive and friendly, ready to offer suggestions, and aware of when to give diners space and moments when you need their service. A notable detail was how our party's large order comprised of half the menu arrived in a timed succession that allowed to enjoy the dishes in timely groupings, rather than all at once. The dishes are creative, especially the vegetable-based dishes, which made the omnivorous and vegetarian amongst us all happy. Great for daily dining or special occasions.
Oh silverlake and your trendy lil spots. You’re so adorable. But sometimes you’re expensive for zero reason. Don’t get me wrong, i don’t mind dishing out some cold hard cash for a mind blowing dinner but man was this a miss. The service is warm and attentive the atmosphere is cozy. We ordered the rolls, sure it came with honey and salted butter but it cost 9 bucks, the carrots were delicious but small, the gem salad was well dressed but basic, the beets were incredible, highly recommend, well composed, the chicken wings were hot the sauce was kinda whack, tart but not enough and salty and unbalanced. For the mains we got the chicken which was ok, it was on a bed of greens and well, again nothing special. We also got the rib eye which we ordered medium rare but got it closer to well it was bland and chewy but whatever. I know waiters ask how the food is and well I hate complaining for something that’s not their fault and luckily there was four of us so we were able to finish the dishes. The side of market vegetables were great. Some of the wines are priced at 54 but the bottles are pretty basic you can pick up for 14. I understand double for the house to make a profit but it put a bad taste in my mouth and we only order a glass of wine. Anyhoo. I wanted to like the place but I doubt we’ll be back. I hope it improves though.
This is a lovely indoor outdoor space in the heart of Los Feliz. The food was inconsistent and unfocused. For instance, the "rib eye" was not the cut delivered to the table and was quite tough. The sea bass broth was too salty and the dish was oddly presented with the toast soggy from both too much aoli and floating in the broth. The branzino was well prepared and fresh, and the seasonal vegetables were tasty. The desserts were also inconsistent...the sundae was good (needs a bit more contrast in flavors), but the cheesecake moose was bland and needed much more fruit. At $200+ for four and $8-9 draft beers, the value proposition seems to be off.
Great food, wonderful ambiance, kind & knowledgeable staff. New LA staple.
seriously the best new restaurant this side of LA! beautiful outdoor ambience, amazing high quality food!
A lovely evening. The ambiance is great—quiet and attentively designed. The server did a great job of being attentive while also giving my date and I some space. We shared four small plates between us, and probably ended up with a little too much food, surprisingly. I loved the fried cabbage, soft scrambled eggs, and dinner rolls (but wasn’t *as* in love with the chicken liver toast; would’ve subbed it for a salad if I had it to do over). With a wine and beer, we managed to walk out for $82, before tip, which is a great deal for LA.
Great food, great vibe! Would definitely recommend!
One of the reasons we went was to try their popular bread and honey . They were sold out so we didn’t get to try it . The food was below average . I don’t cook that well but I could of made better tasting dishes . The chicken was dry , the scallop fried rice was bland . Even the appetizers were bland . The Brussel sprouts were not seasoned well. We ordered the house cab it was very good but was one of the cheapest pours I’ve ever had it could not of been much over an inch . I will never eat there again .
I really love this space, vibe, design, chef, location and owners. I fear this menu isn’t going to help them be as busy as a restaurant needs to be to survive. There are some delicious carry overs from Wooftown but I fear not enough of a rebrand to get the traffic they need.
A gem. Innovative and good food. Nice outdoor seating and good services. Scramble egg is a must.
Absolutely blown away by how charming and classy this place is. I went here for my 40th birthday dinner. The ambiance is the perfect blend of earthy/cozy, and sophisticated and warm and open without being pretentious.
The food is mind blowing, esp the FRIED CABBAGE! I took one bite and said it was one of the best things I've ever had in my life.
Beet/avocado salad was amazing and was enjoyed by everyone, and the bread rolls!! Those were a highlight of my year as well. They pull apart like monkey bread, dotted with a sweet/salty crunch on top with sesame seeds and a large cup of soft butter and honey on the side.
We splurged but prices are totally reasonable.
Our server/service was just amazing. I think his name was Ryan if I remember correctly! He did an amazing job being friendly and attentive and made it special. We got a bottle of proseco which was delicious, and he kept me and my other friends topped up perfectly and unobtrusively.
He also managed a large cake I had brought, lit candles for me (he said he "liked the theater of it" when I offered to do it myself) and brought it out for us all, then cut it up and served it. There is a "cakeage free" of $25 which I thought was high but it was well worth it for what they did.
I had a group of somewhat tempestuous people who got a bit loud and even got in a fight at the table which was a little mortifying. Even with all that, I felt we were tucked away in a corner and hopefully our exuberance didn't interfere with anyone. The sound seemed really good and well insulated but festive and cozy.
We had a crazy bill and our server did a great job managing that for us as well, as two people got up somewhat hastily to leave and then we had to split up the remainder.
I think they were a little annoyed because we stayed a bit over closing time, but they didn't rush us! That was on us.
Such friendly service and a pleasant atmosphere. A little pricey but two $14 glasses of wine will do that, sigh.
Great place for date night or girls night.
Meals can be shared or individual.
This place is so charming. Great vibe and style. Big fan, will go back soon
Great Californian food. Cute patio. Reasonably priced. Would go again. Good for dates or friends.
Same owners, new menu. Pretty interesting and varied. The meat (rib eye) was very well presented and cooked as ordered. The Sea bass dish my guest ordered was flavourful and delicious. The staff were knowledgeable and attentive. Looking forward to going back and trying more
We loved it, great location, lovely outdoor seating, and the food is terrific. Friendly, attentive service – we had a big group in front of us, so our entrees took a bit longer than normal to arrive – we never said a word, but they gave us two free glasses of wine to make up for it. That's what I call good service. We'll be back.
The welcome was warm, the service was friendly and efficient. The warm rolls, from the wood fired oven, are a must. The pork t bone was tender and greatly enhanced by the agrodolce and accompaniments. The patatras bravas and the fresh, inventive beet salad were delicious as well.
Amazing restaurant, those dinner rolls are outrageous.
