Really great place location is marvellous on a good day or night views are fabulous food is always wonderfully cooked and beautifully presented, all at very reasonable prices.
Firmly in my London top 5 all rounders.
Saxophonist was brilliant
Christmas Eve at Skylon.
We have been coming to Skylon on and off for over a decade but this will be our last visit. We had a decidedly average visit shortly after the first Lock Down was lifted but put it down to all things Covid…
The food was overpriced and the service (save for an attentive waitress who eventually came to our aid) was non existent. The menu advertised online - a set deal for around £80 - wasn’t available so we were limited to what was then on offer. A little disappointing given it was Christmas Eve.
After a passable starter, my wife had to return her cold duck which was tough and had flabby skin. I rarely complain but even I struggled with my duck which was much the same, saved only by a thin but herby sauce. The accompanying boiled vegetables were just that. Unseasoned and undressed.
Needless to say we skipped desert.
Not a great experience and one that we won’t dare repeat.
Beautiful setting with amazing London views...you can't beat it. Skylon always hits the mark. The set menu was excellent value, the staff were attentive and friendly, the food was delicious and beautifully presented. A lovely evening!
The service was dreadful.
We ate here saturday evening, my wife ordered the fillet steak , the so call fillet was actually a sirloin steak and badly cooked as well. This was brought to Alex attention (server) who couldn't aplogies enough and took it away, but for them to try pass on a different cut of meat was very bad, also the addtional red wine sauce that was an additional cost was extremely poor and the colour was almost orange nothing like any red wine sauce we had before.
The burger i had was mediocre at best, i have had better burgers in lay-by cafe.
Chips where good.
Alex our server was very good , but i wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who us looking for good food.
In spite of a mediocre rating, the Skylon was good. Our Saturday evening visit before a show met with very slow service (1 hour for appetizers, 1-1/2 hours for delivery of main courses) and a very loud environment. When we finally got our mains, 3 out of 4 dishes were not what we ordered. Because we had to leave, we ate what was probably someone else’s dinner!
However, the food was very good and the view of London and the Thames is wonderful. Better timing from the kitchen and servers would have gotten them a 5 out of 5.
Unfortunately this restaurant has gone really downhill, there use to be a formal section with good food and a really occasion to eat out there. We sent back 2 or the mains from the table and were brought something different form the menu. They were not very good either so we were not charged for food. The kind waiter who was very good seemed to understand - i imagine this was happening frequently - and manage the situation well. sad to see a place like this go to ruin, such a good location.
Service was slow but otherwise a good evening.
I am 26 weeks pregnant and was served undercooked chicken. Due to the poor lighting in the restaurant I didn’t notice it was undercooked until I’d eaten half of it. I was told the restaurant would e-mail me later that evening to reassure where the chicken came from and how it was prepared but I have not heard from them in 48 hours.
In addition my pumpkin soup starter was cold and the restaurant was clearly understaffed.
Extremely disappointing and stressful experience. Would never eat here again.
We arrived at our reservation time and were told to have a drink in the bar as they were preparing our table
We were unable to order a drink for 15 mins and then when we did manage to order one it never materialised.
I had to find a waitress to ask if we could get seated at our table- she did do 30 mins after booking-still no refreshments.
The food was good but v expensive-the wine was way overpriced with the restaurant charging c£90 for a £22 bottle of Barolo
The views made it v Christmassy and it was a nice treat to see our son but nothing about the greeting service and food/drink felt like a £500 meal for 3 people
Skylon is usually a lovely experience, recently food was ok, but service was shockingly disappointing.
The restaurant looks very nice, has a great views, good food however the service lets it completely down.
We went to a show and told the person taking our order we only had 1hr 30. So we chose from the 3 course set menu. The time between the courses was terrible. It’s like they forgot we were there.
Since the gap between to courses was so long we had to stop the dessert. When we did this we asked for the bill. It came to us with the dessert where we again described that we didn’t want the dessert as we were now out of time. They did take the desserts off however I quickly paid for the meal I didn’t notice the bill
There was a 13% service charge on it I would have taken off the bill as it wasn’t deserved. The poor table next to us had to get up to get their wine as it was in an ice bucket near the table but no one was topping up their wine.
The rest of the experience was good but very let down on the service. One good step would be empowering their colleagues to be able to make decisions rather than having to get a manager who then take as a long time to come to the table
Food was pretty average felt like batch cooked quite dry was quite disappointed staff were excellent.
Server was rude. Ordered a drink which never came and with no apology.
The double height ceiling and flood of light from the river, is a stunning setting, it also means your table and conversation is private rather than just adding 'white noise' to the room. Very pleasant afternoon, would recommend strongly.
Good was good and views were lovely
Service was incredibly slow even though there were lots of empty tables. We waited over an hour for our mains and had to ask twice about our coffees. Our waiter was kind and very nice but he was let down by the kitchen
Nice meal service was a bit slow to start but picked up - good value
Excellent food and nice lively atmosphere. Great views over the river too.
Incredible slow service which wasn’t ideal for a pre theatre dinner. Good food. Staff didn’t wear face masks.
Really poor service, everything took ages (ordering a drink, paying) and the staff had an attitude. No one asked how the food was, and it wasn’t great - all undercooked/dry. Highly disappointed esp for the prices they charge. Would not recommend.
Excellent choice to go for romantic or intimate dinners with loved ones. Delicious food on the menu.
Great location with views over the river. Great food. Live music (Saturday brunch) Freedlow Prosecco. Excellent service. Went for a catch up with girlfriends I haven’t seen for a while and had a lovely time.
We had a great table over looking the river. The service was attentive and the food was good. The tables were very close to one another would have preferred more space.
We waited an hour for our table and drinks. The service was poor and the food average. Overall it was a very poor experience. The setting was lovely but the food and service did not meet my expectations at all for what was a special occasion. Disappointing experience overall
Lovely food, good price when using the set menu, however I asked for a glass of house red and it was £16. Which is crazy pricing.
Great atmosphere with an epic saxophonist. We’ll be coming back soon
Excellent staff. Lucky to have window seat. Stunning
Great location , decent food but modest portions. Wine list a little on the heavy side price wise, could use more house wine selections. The 1980’s expense accounts are long gone !!
Skylon has been one of my firm favourite restaurants and I have been going there for about 10 years. It always delivers! Gorgeous location and food and service have always been super.
Sadly however it seems that post pandemic they are struggling with the service and are unable to keep up with the pace of a busy restaurant.
It took us 45 mins to be served a drink, another 45 mins for starters to arrive and then half an hour for our mains.
During this time I got up and chased the bar for our drinks and was told there was no order and then I spoke to the manager 4 times during the course of the meal to ask what was happening with the service. He said that they were really busy and “run off their feet with inexperienced staff”.
I totally empathise that the pandemic has left us in a different place with staff who are new to the industry but then they shouldn’t book so many tables until the team can get to the levels of service that are needed. It’s just not fair on clients who are paying too price and also not fair in the staff.
D&D need to rethink this.
Having been a regular customer visiting monthly and sometimes even more frequently, I will not be returning.
Pre-theatre dining prior to a concert - not exactly a surprise for the staff at the RFH! The service was slow and poor - in the end I had to have a word with other staff and the Manager spoke to me. There were some mistake with the order and the food was OK but nothing more.
The view is very good.
There are now quite a lot of food outlets in this area and I would hesitate from booking this restaurant again - at least for a while.
With the exception of the FOH the service was slow and bad. The food was ok. The only good thing was the atmosphere.
Great Service and food. What a difference 20 mins makes from being empty to busy.
Excellent set menu, great food and good value. Service was just rushed, too fast even though they didn't need the table back.
So service when available was very good but they are clearly understaffed. Great effort from those who were there and very good food and atmosphere.
Charming service at the table and food was, as usual, excellent, meat (chicken) perfect, tarragon jus was delicious, side vegetables, divine.
It’s a beautiful restaurant and the food was good but the service was awful. We wanted a cocktail before our meal and it took 40 minutes to arrive.
A solo dining session with the Sunday papers. Food was lovely, wine was fantastic, service was a little too quick for my liking and I felt I was being rushed through my meal, as often happens when I dine alone. Slow it down a little, please!
Seated late, no tablecloths - apparently only central tables get these, no menus when seated. Only had 1 menu (brunch) this was a lunch booking. Asked for a tablecloth, refused. Service was poor, waitresses clearly unhappy. Where was service with a smile? I am used to much much better service at Skylon. Saving grace - food was lovely and music excellent.
As always, an excellent pre-theatre meal with delicious food and outstanding service.
