At Shōbōsho we blend smoke, steam, and fire. The ancient traditions of Japanese yakitori is combined with the finesse, skill & texture of all that is raw, cured, pickled and fermented.

From a specially-commissioned cooking line consisting of a wood oven, hydraulic grill, rotisserie and customised yakitori pit, the element of fire speaks through simply seasoned, seared meats and vegetables.

The menu covers raw to cooked, with yakitori, noodles, dumplings, bao, robata grilled and spit roasted meats.

Our bar and kitchen operates all day. From lunch, to snacks with afternoon sakes, and right into the night.

Two issues with what promised so much! Firstly, not the most comfortable of seating for larger parties of over 50 year olds. Low wooden stools. And secondly, we had the larger of the fixed menus ($75/head) and found it hit or miss. A couple of excellent courses, and a couple of less so (the leek - looked great, not really for sharing). The wine list was excellent, albeit a little eclectic, and fully priced. $600 for 5 of us, including 3 bottles of average priced wine for lunch. But then, we knew that when we ordered it all! Would I go again? Probably not, which is a great shame. Young persons place, choose what you like on the menu (and it has some great choices) and you will not be disappointed.

Great food and atmosphere overall. Dessert was disappointing. $75 set menu is no cheap. So you should not get a scoop of ice cream on a plate for dessert. C’mon at least give me a nice presentation. Service was ok... anything exceptional. I guess they were busy with big tables!

Don’t expect Japanese food, expect Japanese Plus. Original small plates with a modern Japanese/Australian spin. We left it to the staff to make the selections. Excellent food - a must try.

Amazing food, amazing service. We will definitely be back ! Pot sticker dumplings were a hit & left us wanting more. The chilli sauce was phenomenal, so much so we were scraping it off the plate with a spoon!

Having been several times before and rating it 5/5 I felt this time staff were less attentive and bit rushed and we had several different waiters so not as individualised. Also the teriyaki chicken was dry but the dipping bread incredible. Rest of dishes were outstanding kingfish bowl and pork dumplings, leek and fried rice. Had a noisey group beside us but that couldn’t be helped.

Amazing staff - had such a lovely time. Food was amazing and we felt really taken care of. I usually dislike sitting at the bar but we had such a great time with everyone there, and enough privacy that we didn't even notice! We got a selection of meals so we could try everything and every meal was well considered and worked well with each other. We will be back!

Food was novel, refreshing and quite intriguing. Taste was vibrant and up-front, a little bit in your face but, ultimately, satisfying. Service was very good by Adelaide standards, perhaps just a shade off excellent. Now something must be said of the sake, which we did not try in the end. The cheapest flask (375ml) was AUD48. For a fusion/izakaya joint that is exorbitant. Diners who have been around would expect a flask of sake in such a particular establishment to start from AUD20. The sky can be the limit but it must start from twenty-ish. Ultimately, the sake combined with the small portions of food would detract 1.5 stars from a full five.

Quick late lunch Friday - As always Shobosho shone brightly with innovative and enthralling cuisine served with friendly aplomb by Harriet and crew against an entertaining display of kitchen theatre and precision from the ace team of chefs. Still one of my favourite places to eat in Adelaide whether alone at the bar, business lunch or better still with my wife on a date!

Absolutely delicious- so ridiculously fresh and unusual combinations. Barramundi in particular was melt in your mouth, as was the kingfish starter, but honestly I don't think you could order anything 'bad' in this place!

One of my favourite restaurants. My friend is a chef with a restaurant in Tokyo and had never eaten here. We decided in the lunch time tasting menu. The first four small plates were great but we were a little disappointed with the last two. Cabbage and chicken just aren’t that exciting....but that’s a personal opinion. The kingfish, edamame, bonito, is still a giant hit. Thanks for a great lunch.

Do the Gochiso menu if you go. It's a little pricey (about $75pp), but worth it. You get between 7-8 different dishes, each one as unique as the one before it. And it runs the gamut, from seafood to meat, to veggies. All delicious. We've gone everytime we've visited Adelaide!

Food is OK but pricey. But what makes me really uncomfortable is that the chef tastes every dish with the SAME spoon without clean it and he even licks the spoon sometimes.
Thanks that we ordered dumplings which he was not able to taste. Won’t be there again.

Always a great night! Staff are excellent and the menu changes enough to keep it variable but old favs remain.

It is noisy and busy and hot with the open kitchen and it is great because of it

Every time we go to Adelaide we make sure to book a dinner here
