連れ合いの誕生日に、2度目の来訪。期待通り、泡の茶わん蒸し等々、工夫が光る料理、また盛り付け・器も美しく、さらにはペアリングの珍しいお酒まで、本当に楽しませて頂きました。全体のボリューム、コストパフォーマンスも満点です。

Shinsen Kappo Sanoya is an incredible restaurant, tucked into a quiet neighborhood near Shibuya. My fiance and I were looking for a place for dinner while in Japan, and as fate would have it, Shinsen Kappo Sanoya had two seats left for dinner! Without hesitation, we booked it and honestly, it was the best decision ever. The chef, Masayuki-san is so talented and his passion for cooking truly shows!
1st: Dashi Soup with bonito, kelp, white radish, tuna shavings and a little salt
2nd: Shrimp with Japanese spinach, roe and yuzu
3rd: Chawanmushi with delicate foam -
4th: Hassun
5th: Sashimi course
6th: Duck shabu with japanese celery, firm tofu, and scallion
7th: Spanish mackeral cooked with radish and japanese citrus
8th: rice, buta kakuni, miso soup, and pickled veggies.
9th: Nitrogen apple sherbet made with 4 different kinds of apples with differing flavors
This was an incredible meal and I can only whole-heartedly recommend it to everyone. Masayuki-san is so kind and can converse in English, and can also serve such delicious Kaiseki! An amazing experience! Traditional Japanese coursed meal, and the chef was very welcoming and took time to introduce each course in English to us (despite being the only tourists we felt comfortable and welcomed by the other diners). The food was delicious and it was a great time.
Wonderful dinner experience - best I've had in Japan and great chat with the chef! I will be sure to come back for a truly special night of a fantastic meal!

Simply great
Wonderful experience trying and enjoying inventive dishes celebrating unique, seasonal ingredients made with love and care. Chef was thoughtful, kind and funny as he explained each of the courses in Japanese and English. Intimate and serene setting with a great selection of sake that paired well with the unforgettable multi-course meal.
After you have finished you know why everybody has to arrive by 7pm: Excellent food needs not only great ingredients (that were of course used) but also a perfect timing. Therefore the food was really excellent. A feast for the eyes and - at least for me - a sometimes surprising, but always great taste. You could really see and taste Sano-san's heart and soul put into it.
The different sake served were delicious - and each a perfect fit for the corresponding course. The atmosphere was due to only 8 guests rather relaxed thus underpinning the experience.

A must visit when you‘re in Tokyo and you want to experience Kaiseki. One of the best dinners we had so far - not only in Japan. The food itself and the way of preparing and presenting it is outstanding. Also, the chef speaks English fluently - he explained every course in detail to us and we had a very nice conversation with him after the dinner. We‘ll definitely come back when we‘ll visit Tokyo again.
Great dining experience. Chef prepares and explains a seven course meal before your eyes. Sake pairings are a plus. Locally sourced ingredients. Chef speaks great English so we were able to participate fully. Handmade grapefruit sorhet! Would highly recommend.

This place is amazing. Food is incredible, the service is outstanding, the chef is very talented, and price is extremely reasonable.
From the tangy ayu and salad starter to the refreshing ume plum and shiso dessert, the chef had put together a medley of Japanese and fusion morsels that piqued taste buds and pleased the eye. A pleasing dinner that reset the balance at the end of a long day.

Absolutely fantastic place! I came here by myself and I had a wonderful getting to know the chef and having dinner. I have been to many fine dining establishments around the US and the world, and I had one of the best times here. I tend to favor fine dining experiences that are a lot more casual, where the focus is on the quality of the ingredients separately and together, and about having a good time and enjoying others' company. Additionally, one of the great things that really made this experience for me was that the chef has spent time in the US and speaks English, and he love to converse, which is particularly useful when you're dining solo. Can't recommend this place enough! Remember to get a reservation, be respectful of Japanese dining culture (google it!), and be thankful to the chef. And share this place with others!

Stop reading this review and book this restaurant before word gets out! By far the best dining experience we’ve had in Tokyo - the chef is incredibly skilled, knowledgeable and fluent in English. He crafted a wonderful menu that had us wondering where 2.5 hours had went. Can’t recommend highly enough.
Booked for a birthday on our last night in Tokyo. Was one of the best meals we've ever had. The owner Sano-san is incredibly welcoming and passionate, watching him put together the dishes was an amazing experience.

It was a lovely way to spend a rainy evening. The courses harmonized well, and the chef gracious enough to offer explanations in English. I think I’ll be back the next time I’m in Tokyo.

It’s obvious from the moment you walk in. Be prepared to spend $300 for a couple which will include the sake.
Sano-San does an incredible job of making both foreigners and locals feel welcome. His English is good and his cooking and sake pairings are AMAZING . The menu changes monthly so we will definitely come back.
His restaurant holds at most 8 customer at once and there is only one seating per night at 7pm.
