Shiki Japanese Restaurant
For starters, the sashimi selection or the tempura soft shell mud carb are sensational selections. Some of Shiki’s popular dishes include letting us choose for you with our range of set menu selections such as the Kayki which includes lobster tails infused with truffle butter or the Hanabi which includes seared Mt Gambier beef tenderloin steak with fried garlic and green peppercorns.
Shiki's Japanese green tea ice-cream with red bean sauce is the perfect dessert with which to finish your meal.
Shiki never disappoints. The quality and service are second to none. 19 years ago my husband proposed to me at Shiki and we go back every few years (when the budget allows). We will go back next year for the 20 year anniversary of the proposal and look forward to it.
Best Tepanyaki in Adelaide, always the best quality and tasting food. Never been disappointed and amazing service.
It truly was a Special night out - one you don’t forget with friends and put anniversary dinner
Excellent/ personal opinion is decor is dark needs to be brighter
Main window needs cleaning as it is a feature
Decor is “tired” and needs a painting uplift
But food and service is outstanding both quality and presentation and value
All in all 9/10
Fantastic service and ambiance at Shiki. The seafood is super fresh and the meat so tender! Will be back again, cheers
We each had the Hanabi set menu ($120 pp), each couple is cooked for by the chef separately which is good as it gives you time to digest each course a little bit (there is plenty of food).
I never eat seafood, but at the Sashimi, Prawns, Lobster; all amazing (except my wife and I were not particularly fond of the King Fish Sashimi). Beef Tenderloin was simply mouth watering and so tender, cooked perfectly and great flavour. Udon delicious as well.
As you are eating, chef will point out which sauce is best suited to the course you are eating. Chef was really accommodating, asks how you want your meat cooked, plays it up a little bit when you want to take a video or photo. Service was non-stop, the servers were coming around, taking plates, filling wine, all without needing to be called.
Could not say anything bad about the service or food here, it is definitely somewhere to try if you are ever in Adelaide, and as a local Adelaidian I will be back for sure.
If you are after an intimate dinner setting where you get to sit there and canoodle and be all mushy mushy, probably not a great idea because you share the grill with 8 other people, but if you are just there for a great dinner experience, that won't matter, that's why they have rooms in the hotel and the bar next door.
It is a bit pricey, but you certainly get what you pay for in spades. Be aware there is a surcharge on all non-cash payments (inc. Visa and MasterCard).
Great service and atmosphere, and exceptional food!
The food was amazing...really good quality fish, lobster and steak and perfectly cooked by our own teppanyaki chef! The dessert looked stunning and tasted great too. The Sake i had was nicely balanced, and my husband liked the wine list. Overall a really special dining experience...only thing that would make it better would be more of a view of the river.
This was an upmarket Japanese Teppanyaki restaurant located in the Intercontinental Hotel. The service was quite good but they did not take away all empty glasses etc. so we were left with some. Don't understand why the waitstaff cannot see everything at once. The food was delicious although I feel paying $37 for 5 prawns was too much because that was all you got just 5 prawns! They have a set menu which at the end of the day we did not get and opted for a la carte which gave us what we wanted and with a bottle of wine, one beer and a sake ended up less than the set menu that had no alcohol! The teppanyaki chef was very skilled and plated all meals well. This is definitely a one off experience and I enjoyed it but there are many upmarket Japanese restaurants in Adelaide so it would be good to try them all.
I've never been to a Japanese restaurant and we were celebrating my daughter's birthday. The service was great, atmosphere was amazing and food was excellent
The food was very good. Had Murray Cod for the very first time and it was amazing. Good friendly service provided by the staff.
Beautiful food, very friendly staff and the chef was awesome.
WOW. what a great experience my wife and I had, food was great, staff were great, socialism with other diners is apparently the done thing which was also great to boost the mood at the table.
The fire and flames are a fantastic experience that's for sure, very entertaining.
we both thoroughly enjoyed our night.
Thank you Shiki restaurant, and staff for a great experience.
I common beer ( Boags )from the list was not available. The first Red wine i selected was not available and the second was a later vintage than described on the list. The table we moved to for dessert was in a very tired area and the table surface was sticky. Despite advising, at the time of booking, that the dinner was to celebrate a birthday there was zero acknowledgement. the night was somewhat disappointing and not in line with the Shiki we frequented six or seven years ago.
Worth the experience as well as price. Great staff, food and environment
It’s a great show. The food is of very good quality. The service was impeccable. It is a little expensive and it is not really the place to have a nice bottle of wine as there are so many different courses to match. We really enjoyed it and will be back.
It was a great dining experience watching the Teppanyaki chef prepare the food in front of you. Unfortunately we missed out on our orders of fried rice even though the chef was reminded twice.
Overall, we had a wonderful time. There were some mistakes with my order as I wanted to try the meals with the matching soju instead we were given the matching wine! Also, we ordered a different meal to the one which was served. We were not too fussed but in my perspective, this should not have happened especially to a restaurant of this caliber! In addition, I found plastic in my entree which surprised me.
Shiki is one of our favorite restaurants in Adelaide, as we love the friendly service and attention to detail in the cooking, which makes the high quality ingredients shine. Despite Shiki being quite pricey, the consistency of the food and service means my husband and I are frequent customers. Having said this, our recent experience was rather disappointing. The ingredients were still high quality and the service was as fantastic as ever, but the cooking of the food left a bit to be desired. We have become used to the dishes being cooked to perfection, but this time the food was either under cooked or over cooked. We understand that restaurants can have bad days, so we will not let this experience deter us and we will return to Shiki to hopefully make up for this meal. Perhaps the chef being new played a part, and further training using the griddle is required.
Beautiful fresh food. So healthy and tasty, our kids ate up a storm!
As always, the food at Shiki was outstanding, I actually really enjoyed the sashimi this time (I'm not normally a fan of raw fish but found that for some reason this time, I really took to it).
My wife and I haven't been here year for two years, so the place has changed a bit. Our only real criticism was that the chefs weren't as entertaining as they were the last couple of time were were there, where they really showed off their knife skills and they were almost acrobatic with the utensils. This time, it was just routine to them and nothing really out of the ordinary.
That said, it was fantastic food, great service from the staff, great atmosphere and we will definitely be going back.
Awesome food and service highly recommend this restaurant never disappoints
Fantastic food, service, wine list and ambience. well worth the money. thank you for a very enjoyable evening.
Amazing. Second time we have been- our chef was Nass both times. He is friendly and an extremely talented chef. We will be visiting again for our next special occasion.
Had a wonderful time, excellent experience and wonderful staff.
Friendly and attentive staff. The experience of cooking in front of you with the quality of the chef and food is a must.
Absolutely amazing one of the best dining experiences I’ve had
Excellent food and service. A great time had by our whole group.
Stayed at the InterContinental for 3 night sna dined in Shiki on one of the nights over the 2018 - 2019 New Years Eve.... One of the best Japanese restaurants I HAVE BEEN TO so far! ☺ Was happy with their excellent service delivery and food was immaculate in taste and presentation
Beautiful meal, great experience. Would highly recommend.
The service was great and food was really tasty with a good variety.
Very delicious food. Food is prepared in front of you in the Tempanaki. Very impressing and yammi.
We ate here as a Christmas celebration. The food was amazing and so was the service. Our teppanyaki chef was very funny and entertaining to watch and all the staff made us feel very special.
This is one of a number of times we have visited the Shiki restaurant. We love it! There are a good amount of options to choose from. The food was to die for! We chose the Hanabi banquet - more than enough and a great variety of both seafood and meat. The Wagyu steak was one of the best I have eaten and the tempura prawns were a delight.
The chef cooking in front of us was engaging and fun. We had a group of eight ranging from 17 years old to 51 and everyone had a great time. The waiting staff were prompt and very friendly - we were never out of a drink and the changeover of plates etc. was quick and efficient.
I would highly recommend this restaurant. Thanks for a memorable night!
We had our end of year Dinner at Shiki, was a ver enjoyable experience for us all. Our Chef for the night, Bun, was a gentleman, filled us in with all the information on the different dishes he served and we had good banter and laughs with him throughout. Highly recommend!
My whole family loves it! We go usually 2 to 3 times a year. Always go for special occasions. Service and food is amazing. 5 star!
Outstanding food and service. The best restaurant in Adelaide I have ever been too.
Always top rate
+ Very good food prepared right in front of you
+ Quiet entertaining to watch the skilled chefs
- Seated very close next to other guests, therefore lack of privacy. Ask for a separate table for important conversations, you'll miss out on the kitchen show though
- Sitting right next to where the food is prepared means your clothes smell of kitchen fumes a little after dinner
- Even though the food was good and plenty I had expected a little more creativity for the $$
Absolutely awful. 1. They couldn't find my reservation. 2. Food is below average. It is no better than an average hibachi restaurant in any suburban town in America. (I am American, so that's my vantage point). 3. The value was awful. $200 for a terrible meal. I read the reviews and they are totally off base.
