And if you can drag yourself away from the Inn, there are wonderful walks from the doorstep and world class attractions within easy reach. For a spot of retail therapy or a cultural fix, Halifax is a 10-minute drive and Leeds is just 30 minutes away.
Starters too expensive and portion sizes are embarrassingly small. Choice of starters where slightly lacking. Mains ok but once again not value for money. Desert's poor. The staff excellent
Shibden Mill Inn is definitely a good place to go for a very nice meal. We visited the restaurant rather than the bar, this turned out to be a good choice as it was noticeably quieter. The staff are excellent and most helpful. And the food itself was great. Dietary issues were accommodated more easily than in many places. The location is best described as "off the beaten track", but this is a place worth taking the effort to find.
This was my first visit to Shibden Mill and I was pleasantly surprised by the informal atmosphere and surroundings. The food was superb and I felt at a reasonable price for the choice and quality. We'll definitely be back!
Beautiful place, warm and cosy and the food was fabulous
We enjoyed the atmosphere very much however the service was slow and two of the meals were over-seasoned.
The choice on the a la carte menu was limited since we didn’t not want the tasting menu.
We had a pleasant evening but were disappointed with the food overall.
Made this reservation from reviews in Good Pub Guide & not at all disappointed. We wanted to be quiet & cosy & had a table in the window by the open fire.
The food was delicious & portions generous. Cooking was creative without being « poncy » - sometimes we endure an excess of style over substance which was not the case here.
The December menu looks tempting so we are likely to return.
On the other hand the Christmas menu is excessive - it would take us three days to get through it!
Another excellent meal.
We had a lovely meal here. The food looked and tasted great (my lamb was perfectly pink as requested) but unfortunately everyone’s food was a bit on the cold side. This did spoil it a bit but we didn’t complain as it was still very tasty and we with two toddlers we didn’t want to have to wait for them to re-cook anything. Also, no-one asked if the meal was ok until we’d eaten most of it. We did mention it to the waitress who was apologetic and said she’d inform the chef. Would have been nice if they'd offered a small discount or perhaps a complimentary coffee for the 4 adults but we did still enjoy our evening.
Very good Sunday roast in a nice atmosphere. Good a little slow to arrive but overall a good experience
A lovely place, where we pre booked advising that we had a dog for Sunday lunch. We were given a table in the locals bar area which did not have the same feel as the other rooms (where there were also other dogs), and being a bit out of the way, the service was slow. The starters and wine were delicious, the roast lunch was disappointing. The meat was perfectly cooked, but the mash was like glue, the roast potatoes hard to crack(!), and the small dish of vegetables swimming in the gravy on the plate was unimpressive. We felt would like to try again some other time when they were not so busy, as there were some good points to the meal.
A warm welcome, pleasant environment, good food and efficient service from all staff
The service was so friendly, sweet and attentive. The food was gorgeous to the eyes and the taste. Everything tasted so fresh and the flavor profiles were complex, but only in the way that all the subtle flavors of the various dishes were brought out to be savored and to complement the presence of the other flavors. I had the venison special and it was perfect. The Cullen Skink was divine. This area of Yorkshire is gorgeous and we cannot wait to return. When we do, we will absolutely return to the Shibden Mill Inn.
Great food and service.
Lovely food and lovely atmosphere. Would definitely come here again
The contents of the meal was good but the 'jus' was salty and the mashed potatoes. The chef had over seasoned. Therefore would not eat at the Shibden Mill again or recommend.
We've been to Shibden Mill Inn quite a few times now and it has always been superb. The bar area dining has a great atmosphere, I'd highly recommend it. We tend to go on a Sunday as their Sunday Lunch is to die for!
Super meal in lovely, old world, charming setting.
Great food, well presented and friendly, attentive service, not too formal or stuffy, but not "matey" either. Recommended.
This place ticks all the boxes we will be back agin
Lovely food and desserts. The staff were very friendly and attentive and nothing was to much trouble for them to help you enjoy your dining experience. I would absolutely love to eat here again-big thank you to all the Shibden staff xx
Visited and stayed over for a special anniversary. Taster menu was just amazing and provided an opportunity to try different dishes. Staff were friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. Would definitely visit again and wish it was a bit closer to where we live!
We stayed at the Mill and also booked a table. We were seated in the restaurant which was small and cosy with a lovely warm atmosphere low lighting and good music playing in the background. The food was lovely. We had nibbles to start with and then a burger and a steak. The portions were generous. The deserts were unique and delicious. The serving staff regularly checked we were ok and kept our drinks topped up. The price was really good! Around £85 for three courses and two drinks each! I would definitely come back x
Good quality food with some great flavours - was a birthday celebration - it felt special.
Great place to stop at on a journey. Lunch was delicious and we thought good value. Service was attentive
Great food, friendly staff and good bar selection. Staff were knowledgable and happy to make recommendations .
A lovely traditional inn with friendly and helpful staff, varied menu and outstanding food
Lovely setting nice atmosphere and friendly and attentive staff. The food tasted good overall .
But the portions were too small
Great lunch at a beautiful quaint Yorkshire Inn. Worth the price for excellent food and great service.
Ate there as a birthday treat- and it was! From a friendly greeting to ordering our taxi home, all the staff were great. Everything we ordered, we enjoyed, interesting ingredients, but not just for novelty value, all went together. As a non- meat eater, had delicious fish, my friend enjoyed
The duck. Lots of vegan options also, and a great organic red wine- the only kind I can drink, for health reasons- and so rarely found on wine lists...
The interior seems very old and atmospheric , with real fires in the winter, the gardens look nice for a pre diner drink, in a warmer month. I would definitely go again. Was worried by some of the negative reviews, went anyway🤞🏻And have only compliments🤷🏼♀️
Excellent food, some items on the menu were not available which was a shame, bar staff had to be prompted for extra drinks but we had a fantastic meal
Lovely setting, lovely food but just a little on the expensive side. But would recommend just to try the place.
We had a table booked for 8pm and arrived in good time. At approximately 7.50pm we were shown to our table and offered another drink. A further 10 minutes elapsed before we were presented with a menu and placed our order at approximately 8.20pm. We had to wait until 9.10pm for our starter and then a further 30 mins before our main course. By the time we finished the meal, 10.30 ish we were all too tired to order dessert/coffee as it would have been much much later! We did mention it to the waiter who apologised but it really did spoil my birthday celebrations. Sorry but on this occasion we were very disappointed with the service offered at this restaurant.
I always love coming here. The food was excellent. My daughter said it had excelled her expectations.
We stayed at the Inn for 2 nights and the food is fantastic. Service is also amazing. A good experience all round.
Lovely place, obviously much liked. Upstairs dining room elegant, downstairs jolly. Food a bit hit and miss but never mind, at least the choice was adventurous and mostly well done. Attention to detail could be better.... for example, to make sure the spring vegetables were each properly cooked.... Wine list excellent. Will certainly visit again.
Just wow. Visited here for a meal with my husband and decided to have the 7 course taster menu and we were not disappointed. A real mix of treats and just enough time was left in between courses to sit back, relax and enjoy the lovely atmosphere. Portion sizes were just right and the food was delicious. Staff were very attentive and we didn’t feel rushed. We will definitely be back again in the future.
Lovely late lunch. Would recommend highly. Very cosy.
Enjoyable fish and chips, fish was huge, place was good for lunch
Very disappointing. Risotto was bland, it said it was courgettes and broad beans but was mainly butternut squash. We had a £15 cheeseboard to share for four but were given only 3 crackers and minimal pieces of cheese, very poor value.
A super setting for lunch friendly gorgeous food great place.
We normally love the Shibden Mill Inn but, on this occasion, we were disappointed. The service was very slow and the food was variable in quality making the cost seem disproportionate: the king prawn starter was bland and the chips with the fish and chips were quite soggy. Also, there was very little choice of dessert. The tables were extremely close together which meant that the noise from the table next to ours, seemed invasive.
