And if you can drag yourself away from the Inn, there are wonderful walks from the doorstep and world class attractions within easy reach. For a spot of retail therapy or a cultural fix, Halifax is a 10-minute drive and Leeds is just 30 minutes away.
Ate there as a birthday treat- and it was! From a friendly greeting to ordering our taxi home, all the staff were great. Everything we ordered, we enjoyed, interesting ingredients, but not just for novelty value, all went together. As a non- meat eater, had delicious fish, my friend enjoyed
The duck. Lots of vegan options also, and a great organic red wine- the only kind I can drink, for health reasons- and so rarely found on wine lists...
The interior seems very old and atmospheric , with real fires in the winter, the gardens look nice for a pre diner drink, in a warmer month. I would definitely go again. Was worried by some of the negative reviews, went anyway🤞🏻And have only compliments🤷🏼♀️
Excellent food, some items on the menu were not available which was a shame, bar staff had to be prompted for extra drinks but we had a fantastic meal
Lovely setting, lovely food but just a little on the expensive side. But would recommend just to try the place.
We had a table booked for 8pm and arrived in good time. At approximately 7.50pm we were shown to our table and offered another drink. A further 10 minutes elapsed before we were presented with a menu and placed our order at approximately 8.20pm. We had to wait until 9.10pm for our starter and then a further 30 mins before our main course. By the time we finished the meal, 10.30 ish we were all too tired to order dessert/coffee as it would have been much much later! We did mention it to the waiter who apologised but it really did spoil my birthday celebrations. Sorry but on this occasion we were very disappointed with the service offered at this restaurant.
I always love coming here. The food was excellent. My daughter said it had excelled her expectations.
We stayed at the Inn for 2 nights and the food is fantastic. Service is also amazing. A good experience all round.
Lovely place, obviously much liked. Upstairs dining room elegant, downstairs jolly. Food a bit hit and miss but never mind, at least the choice was adventurous and mostly well done. Attention to detail could be better.... for example, to make sure the spring vegetables were each properly cooked.... Wine list excellent. Will certainly visit again.
Just wow. Visited here for a meal with my husband and decided to have the 7 course taster menu and we were not disappointed. A real mix of treats and just enough time was left in between courses to sit back, relax and enjoy the lovely atmosphere. Portion sizes were just right and the food was delicious. Staff were very attentive and we didn’t feel rushed. We will definitely be back again in the future.
Lovely late lunch. Would recommend highly. Very cosy.
Enjoyable fish and chips, fish was huge, place was good for lunch
Very disappointing. Risotto was bland, it said it was courgettes and broad beans but was mainly butternut squash. We had a £15 cheeseboard to share for four but were given only 3 crackers and minimal pieces of cheese, very poor value.
A super setting for lunch friendly gorgeous food great place.
We normally love the Shibden Mill Inn but, on this occasion, we were disappointed. The service was very slow and the food was variable in quality making the cost seem disproportionate: the king prawn starter was bland and the chips with the fish and chips were quite soggy. Also, there was very little choice of dessert. The tables were extremely close together which meant that the noise from the table next to ours, seemed invasive.
Fab location! Lovely old building! Food although expensive was very nice! Would definitely visit again
The first thing that hit us was the smell from the septic tank or sewers in the beer garden, I could smell it inside which totally put me off the meal. How people could sit out there was beyond me it made us feel sick. Will not be returning.
Our first visit but not the last. A totally relaxed and enjoyable way to spend sunday lunch. The service and surroundings are cosy and discrete. Food was top notch . Everything is considered from the customers persprctive and this is so rare these days. Shibden Mill Inn needs to be on your list of places to eat.
Recently had a few poor meals out the turbot I had was excellent & my wife’s pollock was equally good. Only slight problem was my wife’s at first received pork ( sounds a bit like pollock) this was resolved in 10 mins & although we weren’t bothered got free coffee @ a glass of wine. Still a good looking pub!
Excellent young man served us who was very friendly and knowledgeable.
Wonderful evening. Excellent food with good wine list at reasonable prices.
Superb food and wine list as well as good ales and lagers in delightful 17th century inn restored beautifully , what more could one want from a dining experience ! Dont visit if you like bland frozen food and packaged yorkshire puddings
Had a great meal in March for Mother's Day but this time the meal was very disappointing. Long wait between courses meat chewy lumpy mash and roast potatoes not crispy. Starters were ok. Mother was disappointed which was a shame as it was a special birthday meal
Staff are all friendly and a very comforting atmosphere to the pub, Food is exceptional every time
Delicious food with excellent service, a little pricey but you really get what you pay for !
Beautiful location & building marred by strong smell of sewage. Staff were friendly, but food poor - elaborately described dishes fail to live up to expectations. Watery Purple Haze cocktails.
Fabulous bar and restaurant.
Delightful. Good atmosphere. Good food. Lovely surroundings
Lovely restaurant in fantastic location. The food was very well cooked and presented. Our one criticism was the amount of salt added all 3 of us felt the same way that the food was too salty.
Lovely afternoon tea. The only area for improvement would be the smell, the room smelt stale, it would benefit from some air freshner, diffusers.
We have been several times to Shibden Mill Inn and have always had great food and service. Highly recommend.
What a beautiful little place this is. In the middle of nowhere but close to Halifax. Visited on Saturday evening. Shame about the weather but still enjoyed our evening. Friendly welcoming staff. Lovely cocktails. Can’t wait to visit again on a sunny day and just how beautiful the gardens and surroundings are.
The food was lovely and the service excellent particularly in view of the fact that the hopeless open table booking arrangements gave no indication of the fact that the kitchen was closed from 2 to 5.30 and only afternoon teas were available at our booked time of 4.30. Fortunately we managed to keep our 1 year old occupied until 5.30. Shibden Mill great. Open Table poor.
Had this table booked for around 3 weeks. Was told it was alacart menue with special board. We looked at the menue online and picked what we wanted. Lamb was our choice for every one.. When we got sat down we were told the menu had changed and the lamb had been taken off. Also we then asked for the special board the answer was we don't have one. We ended up having x 2 steaks and 4 fish and chips. The fish if you can call it fish was all batter and most sent back. I am waiting for a call from the manager. Very disappointed.
Great location just outside Halifax, we had the tasting menu, absolutely delicious and unlike many tasting menus the portion sizes were excellent. Great wine, great service. We will be back
Amazing food. Lovely atmosphere, staff were abit slow but I think it was because it was quiet and they were occupying themselves elsewhere. Overall amazing as always
Very old building., with nice decor and overall feel. A really super atmosphere with excellent service from attentive staff. I just feel that at this price point, I would expect better food. I've dined here a few times over the years. I have always been happy, but never overly impressed. I had fish and chips, or as they put it "Estrella battered haddock fillet, fat chips, mushy peas, tartar sauce" which was good, but by no means the best pub fish & chips I've tasted. My girlfriend had a vegetable Risotto, which again was good, but nothing special. I would recommend this to a friend. However, all the flowery language on the menu doesn't bear out.
Had the loveliest meal at Shibden Mill Inn for my mum's birthday
Staff very attentive and polite.
Will definitely be returning.
Fabulous food in a relaxed & friendly setting, many thanks.
This is a charming restaurant that serves quality food and wine. As one of our party was vegan, often when they go out they have little or no choice, but at Shibden there are always two choices per course, which ensures everyone has a good night.
Have been to Shibden Mill Inn for lunch, dinner for two, dinner bed and breakfast for a special occasion, and, most recently, with a group of friends for a celebration meal. We've loved every occasion and have always been very impressed with everything. Plus - the location and the building are delightful.
I entertained two American friends at Shibden Mill Inn -outside in the sunshine. They and I were delighted - with the setting - the food - everything!
