Sherkaan - Indian Street Food
While our energetic space evokes the feel of old-world, urban India, our hope is that our modern plates and craft cocktails breathe new life into the country's diverse and flavorful cuisine. By removing some of the unfamiliarity associated with Indian food, we hope to create a fun, relaxed environment for all to enjoy!
Everything was great!
I had really hoped for the best but found the food very bland. Had 4 small plates, a salad and 3 larger sharing plates.
We had a reservation & were warmly greeted . We were escorted to our seat & within 2 minutes the waiter was asking for drink needs & telling us about the menu. We threw caution to the wind & ordered a variety of meats, sauces & flavors. The cocktails were wonderfully presented & tasted the same. Our food arrived quickly & our hands couldn’t stop dipping in sauces that were so layered & flavored.we all left full, satisfied & happy. Cannot wait to return.
Great food, great location, great decor. Very helpful wait staff. Had Samosa, Bad Spud Frankie Roll, Dum Biryani, Dahi Puri, Bhel Puri. Lovd it!
The food at Sherkaan is inventive, playful, and delicious. As someone with celiac disease, I appreciate the care they take to make my meal safe and enjoyable. I also love that they often have a dedicated fryer, so I can usually eat their delicious fried food!
Great food! We loved everything we ordered. Drinks are different and great. And the food is on another level.
Great lunch with my family thanksgiving weekend! Food was freshly prepared and wonderfully flavorful.
Terrific food! Good service, fun atmosphere. My new favorite spot!
The drinks are great and are made individually but take a long time to arrive. Food is terrific.
Great service and wonderful food!
An excellent meal in a great setting. Very accommodating staff -
Super hip vibe, trendy decor, excellent menu, awesome drinks, delicious food. But be warned: everything’s very spicy and without proper warning. I love Indian food but this is spicy plus! Also hostess, food runners have poor customer service skills.
Tasty food with unusual flavors. The menus is not just the familiar stuff.
Terrific restaurant to try delicious, creative plays on Indian dishes and inventive cocktails, in an artistic space.
Food was delicious and very affordable. The restaurant itself is beautiful. My friends and I made a reservation for a table outside on a Saturday night, we were greeted by friendly staff and sat at a table immediately upon arrival. The location is a perfect balance of open yet intimate. Our waitress was attentive and patient with our many questions about the menu, as we werent very familiar with Indian cuisine. Great prices and great portions! The craft house cocktails were just as delicious. Definitely planning on returning soon with more friends!
The food was out of this world! I just wish it was closer to where I live.
Amazing food! Already recommended it friends and family! Great service! We will be back.
Food was okay. Service was okay. Didn’t get the experience I hoped for.
I'm Indian-American and grew up eating Indian food. This is the best Indian food I've ever had in any restaurant anywhere. I've lived in six countries and had Indian food in all the major cities - London, New York, Mumbai, Hong Kong, Singapore, SF - but THIS is the best I've had (apart from mom's kitchen). The menu is innovative and the chefs are constantly experimenting. The drinks are strong and creative. The concept of reimagining Indian classics and incorporating ingredients in a non-traditional way is absolutely brilliant. I've eaten here 3 times in two weeks and I cannot wait to go back again.
This place is awesome. My wife and I know Indian food, and usually we expect to find the standard fare, hopefully done well. Sherkaan takes familiar Indian dishes and adds delicious twists that both surprise and delight.
The night we visited, there was a group of Indian men who had come to New Haven from New York. They said that this was the best Indian food they had eaten outside of India.
Excellent service, delicious food, adventurous cocktails, and a trendy setting. What else could you ask for? Bindaas!
Food was horrible tasted stale me and my son both unwell
A real Indian street food restaurant with a great bartenders.
Loved the ambience! The menu is wonderfully funky, the service is awesome and the food is adventurous. Do not miss The Chaat Dog which is the star of the show.
I've visited Sherkaan twice; once for dinner, and once for lunch. Both times the food and service were excellent. The portions are generous; I find that a dosa, salad, and chat is enough food for two people to share (if both people are drinking lassis).
As someone with celiac disease, I appreciated the fact that everything labeled "gluten free" on the menu was celiac-friendly: no cross-contamination. As someone who loves food, I also appreciated that everything I ordered was delicious!
A great place - and if it ever stops raining the outdoor dining area will be great too!
The food was good, different from the regular Indian dining experience. I really liked it, though. The Waitress was really helpful when it came to understanding the menu. She was great in fact. We will be back to enjoy the flavors of Indian Street Food!
Superb food. Great outdoor seating. Variety of food is remarkable.
Food was great. Server was friendly engaging and had great recommendations.
Some dishes were overcompensating with seasoning, including charcoal chicken. Vegetarian variant of biryani would be great.
Outdoor seating was wonderful.
It was our first time at this place. The location is great, with an outdoor option that's not on the street. Service was very good, but I don't think we made the best choice in food. On the good side, the squash dosa was terrific. The corn appetizer was very simple, but fresh. We weren't too happy with the lamb shank. The seasoning was off - too much cinnamon. We'll be back, and we hope to try more of the small dishes.
Great cocktails- recommend Law of the Jungle and Anga Ranga!! Also the vada pav sliders are amazing , so is the chaat dog ( we tried the vegetarian). The bhel puri is good too! Would try main course next time
If you have any food allergies, this is the place to go. They take great care in preparing your food and the manager clarifies any specific needs once you have placed your order. That being said, the food is amazing, can’t wait to go back.
A refreshing change to the robust South Asian food scene in New Haven with the focus on street food. The menu features some unique and tasty takes on traditional items. They were out of a few items when we went which was disappointing. The vegetarian options are plentiful on the menu and the servers were incredibly thoughtful about allergies and the specific food items we had ordered. The vada pav sliders, rose lemonade and roasted corn chat were particularly good! The decor and mural paintings inside are beautiful.
Sherkaan is delicious! I went with a friend from India who liked the food, but said it was more of an Indian-fusion food rather than traditional Indian. I LOVED the smoked sweet potato samosas. They were delicious. The drinks are also very tasty as well. I will definitely be going back!
I saw a piece in Good Morning CT about this restaurant and made a reservation with a friend. The indoor decor is gorgeous. We sat at a high-top table and although it was busy and active, we could speak comfortably to each other and felt the space between our tables and our neighbors’ was comfortable. The server, Smitty, was outstanding—attentive and friendly, but never overbearing. We loved the food and were pleased to have so many vegetarian selections to choose from. I look forward to my next visit.
We loved the food. It was fun to try dishes that were “nouveau Indian” that is, different than the standard chicken tikka masala. We did find the items we tried to be sweet, so for those who are trying to watch the sugar intake— be aware. The ambiance was fun and hip. The noise level was high, but I guess that’s standard for trendy restaurants. I will be back—I’m already Jonesing for the shepherd’ s dosa.
Cool decor, interesting dishes and reasonable prices. The Dahi Puri and Bad Spud Frankie Roll we ordered were both a bit lacking in flavor. The Palak Paneer Dosa filling was tasty but the dosa could have been crisper. The Gobi Pakora was delicious! We'll definitely go back to try some of their other dishes.
The cauliflower 65 was fairly decent, but the bhel puri tasted like cardboard, which is quite the achievement considering that bhel puri can be made with a standard chaat masala. entrees were horrendous. The chefs clearly did not know what they were doing - there is no reason for butter chicken to taste like cinnamon and be absurdly sweet. The white server also tried to correct my pronunciation of gulab jamun (as an Indian person). The gulab jamun was dry, dense, and had no syrup. Completely wrong. I get artistic interpretation but it was inedible.
I was really excited to try this restaurant especially when I saw they had lamb shank on the menu. The ambiance was nice and the front of the house seated us promptly, but we did have reservations. The server was lack luster, and didn't know much about the food. I asked if the food that I was thinking about ordering was spicy because my 4 year old son was with me, and she said no. Well pretty much everything on the table was spicy except the rice and lamb shank. The lamb was tender but had no flavor. The butter chicken was spicy, for the shrimp n grits, the shrimp was dry and its not your typical grits. At the end of the meal the server brings the chip reader and has the audacity to select the 20% tip button. I think this was the most infuriating thing of all.
The food was amazing and service was great! I can’t wait to come back and try more dishes.
