We did the tasting menu and the food was marvellous and just as good as we remembered from our last visit!!
This restaurant would be fantastic if it weren't so loud that you can't have a conversation with the people at your table. The food is delicious (barring a couple of bland entrees) and the service is good, but it is so loud that you have to yell to hear each other and the server speak. I've given this place a try three times on different nights, hoping it was just a fluke, but it's always insanely loud. Saw three tables complain about the noise levels while we were eating there. Will not be returning!
Really brilliant afternoon staff were so accommodating the food was really delicious great service.
Unfortunately the service was terrible, extremely slow. I sat there with no food for 30 minutes while my friends had received theirs, and all their food came staggered. We received our portions of rice without the meat and it was left on our table and was cold by the time the meat arrived 20 minutes later.
When the food did arrive, it was delicious and we enjoyed it, but sadly very difficult to enjoy the food when the entire experience was so suboptimal.
We also wanted to try the tasting menu but the option was only available to the whole table and one of our friends was vegetarian so they would not accommodate for vegetarian options and therefore none of us were allowed to have the tasting menu. It’s shocking to think in this day and age where there are so many dietary variations, Shack Fuyu does not accommodate for vegetarian tasting menu. We were all forced to chose from a la cartel where there are vegetarian options.
The service was PAINFULLY bad. The food is really delicious and the wine is uncommonly well priced for central, but Jesus the service! A 1.5hr slot is allocated for each seating: we had to flag someone down to order, then got our first dish 40mins later. We had only 15mins left of our slot when the last (of 5 small plates) arrived. We were offered dessert, then told we had to move to the bar to eat it where we waited another 25 minutes until it arrived. Such a shame because thw food is amazing and this could have been really special, but it ended up being quite disappointing. Either allow 2-hr slots like everywhere else or actually check if your customers would like some food now and again!
The food and service were fantastic. Problem was we ordered the taster menu for two and it was enough to feed four. Then they said 'they didn't do takeaway' meaning doggy bags when we said we didn't want to waste the gorgeous food. Meant we felt uncomfortably full and wasteful. Aubergines and bao to die for!
Everything we ordered was so tasty. The best chicken wings I've ever had! The service was excellent - really friendly and attentive staff . Would definitely recommend.
Very friendly staff, excellent food, great cocktails, highly recommended
Great food and service ..... tasty!
Such a shame. Was really looking forward to this meal, but after waiting 40 minutes to be served a drink (only to be told twice that both drinks id ordered sold out), while wedged in to a tiny table where we could barely hear ourselves think, we waited over an hour for food, which came out cold. Had to cancel our main meal, but the manager was very understanding and refunded our drinks as an apology.
Awful!!! The most terrible Japanese food I have ever had. Bordering on disgusting! Staff were friendly but clueless. For example my friend asked what izakaya meant in the menu and the answer was “some Japanese stuff”. Icing on the cake was when one of the staff said to google it.
Delicious! Especially the aubergine. But found the e press menu, although fast, was expensive for what was included
The food and were staff were brilliant. The staff are very attentive and never leave you with an empty glass. One thing I will say is that its very loud and the food took a while to come out initially but overall amazing - 100% recommend
Went there for the Sunday Brunch and I must say that it was very good. They did not rush us (we stayed for about 4h), our glasses were filled promptly. Our waiter was lovely and the Manager too.
Great food, the chicken wings, salmon tacos and pork buns, were especially amazing. The staff were all lovely and very friendly. Best Sunday brunch I've ever had. Would have better value if we could eat and drink more, but still very responsible.
Good pre-theatre menu - not the largest portions but tasty and better value than Flesh & Buns. Good service.
Good stuff innit.
Food was incredible as always! The atmosphere was buzzing for a Wednesday night which added to the experience.
Good quality Japanese food with a bit of fusion too. It's a noisy restaurant on a Sunday but the food is good, quite well priced and with attentive service.
Overall i have to say we had a fantastic time here. The food was absolutely fantastic, some really good Japanese food and some clever twists which you rarely see, such as the Prawn Toast/Okonomiyaki.
At first we were somewhat concerned. Our table was at 4.15, at 4.35 we had yet to receive anything including our welcome drink. However it arrived shortly afterwards and then things started rolling.
The food was simply amazing. Can't fault it.
Once going the service was really good and they continually topped up the Prosecco. They actually continued serving us until almost 7. So whilst they started a little slow, we actually got more than our allotted time.
They big drawn back is the noise level when we were there. It was all dependent on the other tables. At times we really had to shout to have a conversation due to others, but when 1 or 2 noisy tables left, it went to a moderate level and we could talk normally.
I would come again and would recommend.
Another amazing time at Shackfuyu. Food was amazing, the service was outstanding and all my guests were very impressed. If I can add a constructive feedback, would have liked the prosecco to be colder, but I appreciate that with the warm weather it was hard to keep it cool. Thanks very much
The best brunch I have ever had the pleasure of booking. Would highly recommend.
I was really looking forward to dining at Shack-Fuyu, and the restaurant on Old Compton street looked great. Although some of the food was outstanding (the mushrooms, the bao, and the softshell crab), a lot of it was quite underwhelming. The charred cauliflower was just boiled unseasoned cauliflower, a bit sold, with an ashy edge; the miso aubergines had no caramelisation and were pretty bland; the seabass cerviche had way too much chilli and the fish was thick and chewy. The service was also pushy- we were in and out within the hour, but our glasses and plates were taken away before we were finished and we had no fewer than three separate servers ask if we were finished and wanted the bill. For £30 a head it felt like a fast food place with premium prices, and unfortunately i won't be going again.
Great place, our waiter provided excellent service although there was a server who made a few mistakes but I am putting it down to the fact she may have been new. Food was amazinnnggg. If you don't know what to go for, definitely try the tasting menu!
Overall good food and service. Got quite loud once the restaurant filled up. We went for our anniversary. Only disappointment was when the restaurant called to confirm the reservation they asked if we would like a candle in our dessert which we did not get.
Best wings in town by far and great bottomless brunch
Fantastic chicken wings. Set menu was just enough for a early dinner.
Really enjoyed the experience. The food was all delicious. Standout dishes for me were: salmon sahshimi, pork belly, ox cheek bao and rabbit katsu. The only disappointing one was the duck gyoza (from the 12 or so things we tried) as it was not particularly flavoursome. Service was friendly but a bit hurried at times. Ambience was nice and buzzy
Loved the food and very good service, would happily eat there again. Loved the pork, aubergine and of course the French toast. The restaurant is very loud, my only small complaint.
The food was great and the atmosphere was fine. However, We were rushed out of restaurant which put a bit of downer on the meal.
I had the tasting menu last time and amazed how all food were very tasty so brought my friends this time before going to musical. We had pre theatre menu which is great for the value. I have Asian background and very fussy about ‘Asian fusion food’ but Shack-Fuyu’s food never disappointed me so far. You can order any dishes and I’m sure the taste would be incredible. Every dish is super well thought: the flavour of source, how they cook meat and how they put texture together are amazing. The staff are professional. Please don’t forget to order the French toast even if you are full. You cannot miss it.
We had an early reservation and ate from the pre-theatre menu. The atmosphere was nothing special but we were there early, I'm sure it comes alive later on.
The food was delicious but there was a big discrepancy in the size of the dishes from the pre-theatre menu. Most noticeably the vegetarian option of miso aubergine which was meant to be a 'large' plate, was really tiny (almost ridiculously so). Especially compared to the salmon large plate, which was very generous at more than twice the size! It was all really tasty but did leave our vegetarian friend feeling like it was very poor value for money, understandably so.
food felt not refined or fresh. Ceviche was served warm, left me with a very strong unpleasant after taste. Felt it was more of a peruvian fusion than japanese. Waitors were difficult to get ahold of and always seemed busy. Left the restaurant feeling sick.
Top notch as ever. Have lost count how many times we've been - still as good as ever and one of our favourites in London.
This place was amazing - the food was incredible, we both tried something new, something we thought we might not like and it was amazing! Prawn toast is not your ordinary dry Prawn toast it was delicious and I will be thinking about it until I go again. Tek our waitress was so helpful, explaining all dishes and recommending some of the best dishes they have - and they are the best. Go. Enjoy! You won't be disappointed.
Rock solid experience on all fronts! A no brainer, head over there for a delicious feast
The restaurant was incredibly short staffed it seemed so on several occasions we actually had to get up from our table to go and get the waiters attention. Some of our dishes were forgotten and didn’t turn up, and others the waiter had forgotten to tell us were sold out until we asked where they were
Fantastic food. Wings and aubergine highlights, piglet belly disappointing.
We asked our waiter (who asked the manager) if we could do the tasting menu but swap in an item. Manager abruptly tells us ‘no swaps in or out of the tasting menu’ and walked away. The person on the phone said they’d bring out a birthday candle with desert but this never happened. Otherwise service was very good.
Not too far off 5 stars but just missing a couple of points on food and service.
the best loved it can't wait to go back.
the rice beef was the highlight!
It was second time for a Sunday brunch and it didn’t let us down. My girlfriend booked the last slot for Sunday brunch and we had a fabulous time there! Our server Anderson who was looking after us as well was very attentive to topping up Prosecco and clearing the table, made experience much better when we don’t need to ask for anything. Would definitely come back and bring some friends along! Thanks Anderson for a good customer service. Well done!
