As always, a great meal at Sfoglina!!
Our dinner was absolutely delightful and delicious. Service was impeccable. The short rib tortellini was a big hit as was my cavatelli. The soup special was delicious. The host was very gracious about our birthday celebration and comped the ricotta donuts which along with the chocolate cake was delicious. Nice wine list of a wide price range so easy to find a delicious, affordable selection. It was our second visit and it will definitely be a go to restaurant.
A let down based on all the positive reviews. Food was delicious but service (if you could call it that) was awful. They gave us plenty of time to decide on menu choices and by that, I mean they ignored us for a while. When the waiter finally did come up to offer water and drinks we were ready to order food.
Ordered a meatball dish (amazing) a small salad, two sups (also delicious) and two mains (both good). Asked for them to pace app and salad first then soup and then mains. I Lao said I’d like to order a wine with the main. This was the last time we saw the waiter.
Food runner, of course, brought app, salad and soups at the same time. I ate the soup first since it was hot. The runner then dropped the mains while I was eating salad. So tacky. Never had a chance to order wine so we just ate.
Another waiter finally came to pick up dirty plates and asked if we wanted dessert but we were done by then and asked for the check. He brought it and disappeared to back of the house with my card. Will keep an eye on that.
Start to finish we were there maybe 50 minutes and never once were we asked how things were. Bad showing and as good as the food was I doubt we’d come back.
Wow, we had the 3 pastas, sooo delish. And still had room for the gelato. Lovely birthday dinner.
Wonderful, authentic Italian food. Attentive service and well-priced.
Wonderful, although Sfoglina on Connecticutt Avenue has a more relaxed vibe !
Exceptionally prepared food. Wait staff were friendly and attentive. We had a party of 6 and all raved about this restaurant. Would definitely recommend.
It was noisy in a more stressful manner then “energetic” as the app wants me to say- service was high quality but he was in a hurry at times. Food excellent on all choices, from mozzarella bar to pasta to veal.
the meatballs, salad, gnocchi, wine and ricotta doughnuts are to die for! My husband got the spare ribs and said the meat was not a great cut. everyone else at the table enjoyed it very much.
Best gluten free pasta I’ve ever had! All the food was fantastic. I was blown away.
I absolutely love Sfoglina in Van Ness, but didn't enjoy the downtown location as much.
Every dish was tried was divine but the desserts, were beyond measure, especially loved the cookies with caramel and chocolate ganache. My only complaint is that it was hard to find the restaurant, it is NOT on New York Ave, it is on 11th Street, everyone in our group had trouble finding it.
Great food and excellent service. I had the soft polenta with mushrooms for an appetizer, and have never had better polenta in my life. Unbelievable flavor. And for an entree, I had the pasta with truffles and a butter sauce, which was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever eaten. Our server was friendly and capable, and the sommelier was extremely helpful. Only drawback is that the place is NOISY. When you reserve, specify a table in the back room, which is noticeably quieter.
Our server was very nice, as well as knowledgeable about the menu, but things did not happen timely or the way we were told they would. That is why we down-rated the server. Everything elas was excellent!
Food was amazing as was the service! Not as cute as the Sfoglina on Connecticut Ave, but otherwise perfect
Delicious food and perfect portions.
Sfoglina was a great luncheon experience. The ambiance and decor are a great balance of upscale comfortable without being pretentious. I appreciated how friendly and knowledgeable our waiter was. The squid ink pasta and gnocchi dishes were flavorful, fresh, and light.
Pastas were heavy and too al dente. We’ve enjoyed meals at your other location. This meal was really disappointing
Always an excellent meal with excellent service. Only complaint is that the tables are a bit too close together for my taste but, yet, I return to eat there.
Friendly staff and delicious pasta dishes ...moderately priced.
I did not enjoy the food. The fundamentals were not met. First and foremost, the pasta was overdone. There was nothing subtle about the flavors. Each dish was heavy handed.
The server was attentive and the service was professional. The restaurant is nicely appointed.
Food was excellent, but service was slow. The waiter was very courteous and helpful, but it seemed like he had to be responsible for so many tables that resulted in long intervals by the time he got to our table. Maybe he should not have been tasked to be serving that number of tables.
We have been fans of this wonderful Trabacchi restaurant since it was Casa Luca. The food is consistently excellent, particularly (and unsurprisingly) the pastas, which are richly flavorful, and the superb small plates, like the subtle Soft Polenta Cacio e Pepe , and the always-wonderful Nonna's meatballs. But what truly sets Sfoglina downtown apart from other excellent Italian restaurants in DC is the warm service and unpretentious friendliness of the entire team, from the managers to the buspeople. I am happy to note that our waiter for that first visit to Casa Luca several years ago, Yaro, is now one of the managers at Sfoglina -- clear evidence of Chef Trabacchi's ability to recognize talent and excellent service and promote those who provide it. Yaro, our waiter (a smart and polished young Serbian) and the team made our evening -- in celebration of my wife's birthday -- a very special one. We felt like pampered members of the family. Molte, molte grazie to the Sfoglina team, and we greatly look forward to our next visit.
Great food and service! Had a great time dining here with friends.
Had a lovely time at Sfoglina. Food was very good and the service was outstanding.
Good food, decent happy hour, service was nice albeit limited due to crowds. I would go back for sure- the pasta was incredible.
Great spot! Lunch specials, atmosphere, and very attentive service!
The food and service were excellent!
We had a wonderful business meeting in Sfolgina. Staff was warm and knowledgeable. Food and wine was divine. Dessert is a must! Everyone was happy when they left.
Excellent as always. Dining here is always a top notch culinary experience and enjoyable.
Excellent food and wine selection! There were four of us, and all of us were delighted with our meals (including desserts!). I would say the highlight was the appetizer/mozzarella sampling platter. The lowlight was our otherwise pleasant waiter kept forgetting that our wine was in a chiller around the corner from us, and therefore both our wine and water glasses frequently sat empty and unnoticed until we flagged someone down. However, the food, top notch wine, and charming atmosphere kept our spirits up.
Staff was on point, very profesional and attentive and they made sure we had a great time,we recomend this restaurant to all our friends and their food was excellent and beyond our expectations. Great and wonderful restaurant
Great food. Great service. Tables are pretty close to each other so the server had to kind of stand over my shoulder and you’re basically sitting with whoever is next to you. But not a big deal.
Dinner with my children home from college
All of the staff was very attentive and top notch. The food was also impeccable, even though it was Valentine’s Day everything was fresh and delicious! Will definitely be back when I’m in town.
Food was TERRIBLY salty. Almost inedible. Will not return.
Great experience and service!
Just gorgeous food and wine, warm elegant atmosphere, nice staff — will be back ASAP
