And that is exactly what we did, expanding our eatery to three spectacular levels, including a rooftop bar, with views across the iconic Glenferrie Road. Inspired, we built our menu on a foundation of fresh ingredients, great flavours and good company, becoming a destination for all those seeking an authentic taste of Italia.
Great food, excellent hospitality. We will definitely be doing back soon!
Always love me some Santoni. Great vibes, service and food. Can’t wait to be back after lockdown 2.0 :(
The service was so lovely and the music playlist was so fun and upbeat. I really felt I could relax and have fun while there. Food and cocktails were also so delicious. I will be back.
Great food and a lovely place. We had a great time!
We had a tasty dinner on the rooftop - perfect for social distancing and not cold outside (even on a freezing winter night)
Always great food and service, would highly recommend
Awesome food, especially the spaghetti with spanner crab!
Under the most difficult of situations, a power outage as we walked in .
We had a fun filled night.
Service was outstanding and nothing was a problem.
I was very disappointed at Santoni on the weekend. My boyfriend and I are regulars there and were excited to go back after isolation. As a manager in hospitality, I am completely aware of the restrictions and restaurant requirements/procedures due to COVID. I was shocked when we arrived that no one asked us to sign in or even direct us to a place that we could sign in (as Covid regulations require), i was then further surprised that we were sat on a tiny round table (rooftop) squished between 2 other tables where we were not socially distanced at all. We really wanted to be on the rooftop and wanted to enjoy our meal and not make a fuss so we decided to stay at the table and just move closer together/a little further away from the other tables. As I said, we are regulars at Santoni and know their usual service standard and food quality is quite good. A lady came and took our drink order (whisky sour - our usual) and walked away. After 10 minutes another man came up and told us that she didn’t understand what we asked for and asked to confirm. After another 10minutes the drink came and it was awful. It was watery and the whisky tasted cheap, not what we usually experience there! After our food came out we waited 10 minutes for someone to then bring us cutlery (we were trying to find a staff member to get us some but no one seemed to be around). After we ate my boyfriend and I agreed that the food lacked flavour compared to usual (popcorn chicken especially). I then went up to pay sneakily while my boyfriend was in the bathroom and was charged $128 for 1 whisky sour, 1 coke, Santi Greco pizza, popcorn chicken and chips. I didn’t realise until I sat back down and a man came over to tell me that He charged me for a different table and gave me $30 change in CASH. By this stage I just wanted to get out of there as the night we were so excited for did not go to plan. I realised in the car I was short changed me again $10, also, where am I suppose to spend cash now!?
Great first night out with 4 friends since COVID hit . Italian Waiter fantastic and so friendly. Santoni is strictly a no bill split restaurant....Our divine Italian waiter acknowledged that cash is not the thing at the moment and allowed us to pay separately... common sense prevailed :)
Booked a table, get to the restaurant to find we’ve been place outside on the rooftop in the middle of winter on a 10°C night. Barely any outdoor heaters. Requested several times for an available table inside, which staff always very nicely responded too saying they would get back to us, but never did. Obviously staff were under pressure, as many surrounding parties were complaining about the same thing. Had we known we were outside we would have brought a warm coat, but both me and my friend were in jumpers which did little to nothing in such cold. Let people know if they’re going to be placed outside, which you may not do as this will obviously equal less pax in attendance, or at least provide somewhat adequate outdoor heating.
Excellent food and great friendly staff. One of the best restaurants in Hawthorn!
Pizza below average. Topped with chunky prosciutto uncooked and base was uninspiring.
The ragu pasta was nice.
Lovely food and service to celebrate a team’s achievement
Really nice atmosphere and fantastic food, the funghi pizza is especially amazing!!
Tasty food for but $70 for a pizza, a salad, a glass of wine and a glass of Coke seems a bit steep. Aware of the public holiday surcharge, that wasn’t an issue. Caprese salad was delicious - mixed tomatoes with mozzarella. Capricciosa pizza with added anchovies was tasty, if a bit wet in the centre, making it difficult to eat without resorting to cutlery. Wait staff were accommodating and helpful. Probably won’t rush back, due to the perceived lack of value for money.
Quality of food was very poor, had a margarita pizza and the kilpatrick oysters. Cheese on pizza was dry, not enough sauce, hardly any basil which looked terrible anyway. Oysters were really small, too many really long strips of bacon and not enough sauce or oyster for that matter. Service was fine and ambiance/views on rooftop were great. Would only come back for a drink.. maybe.
Booked Rooftop Table Undercover (a few Umbrella tables & 1 small area undercover 2 tables. Otherwise Wind would be unpleasant. 1st Booking. Great views, service & ambience. No long wait for order. Not Moisten On pricy side although value for $ Our Order, noticed @ other tables some food overpriced. Extremely Steep Staircase & lot to Climb. Not sure if lift but if want Rooftop & no Lift not DIsabled friendly.
Lovely place to go to celebrate a couple of family Birthdays
Nice atmosphere but food did not come out as requested - we asked for the chips to come as a starter but it came at the very end. Overall very pricey for what it is
Overall very good, but my wife ordered anchovies to be added to pizza and either they were not added or there was so few my wife couldn't taste them. Asked the waiter and he said there were anchovies on the pizza. She couldn't taste them, nor could I.
Service was very good. It was wet and the waiter found a table for us at his own initiative where it was dry after we started getting a bit wet where we were sitting.
Fantastic pizzas, so nice and fresh and the Parmesan truffle chips are to die for!
- the service was excellent!
- it was a little noisier than I thought it would be but that can’t be helped
- the only order that disappointed me was the Italian mess. The pavlova/meringue tasted off and the peach wasn’t sweet.
Celebrating a birthday
The receptionist downstairs, couldn’t find our booking for 10 mins. Then, We were asked to go to the rooftop for the table. After climbing 3 floors up, we were told by the rooftop staff that they do not have a table and asked us to go down again. In the interim, another staff pitched in and asked us to sit on any table in the rooftop.
After that, when we were placing the order we specifically asked if the particular Hawaiian pizza is vegetarian. The staff said yes it is vegetarian. When the pizza came it had bacon on it. We asked the waitress to take it away. Then another waiter pitched in and was not courteous at all. Said “we can’t take this off the bill. You need to take this home”. He wanted to impose his decision on us.
This is probably the worst restaurant we have been to in a very long time. And staffs like him, are full of negative energy and ruin the beautiful atmosphere.
Very good restaurant except that disabled access to upper floors is only by a steep staircase. Not really recommended for those with arthritis!
Great spread of pizzas and great ambiance on the rooftop restaurant.
Yummy pizza, good value and come out quickly. Would recommend this restaurant!
Pizza just ok
Soggy in the middle
$26-30 for a pizza, you expect more
Aperol spritz $18 also exy
Haloumi Salad was good
Waiters on that night were helpful and there was overall great service
It was a gorgeous summer night and the staff member moved our booking from inside the restaurant to the awesome rooftop. Everything went great however the waitress told us 40 minutes after we placed an order with her that she forgot to send it through to the kitchen. You could tell she was new and she was very apologetic but we ended up waiting over an hour for our food to come. When it finally came to our table it was delicious! A little let down by the waiting time but we Would come again as the rooftop vibes were great and the food was delicious
Booked online for a group of 5; straightforward and no hassle at all.
Turned up 15 minutes earlier still welcome.
Took time to order no problems; pleasant helpful staff. Food was great 10/10 and drinks selection caters for every taste. Menu easy to read with clear choices and good variety for range of diets.
Took time to get out as we were yabbing away; never hassled. Definitely coming back.
Great food, but a little expensive. Waiter forgot to order our main meals and they made rubbish excuses as to why the food was 1 1/2 hrs late
Thanks for having us for our Xmas Dinner, it was great
Food was great and rhre service was quick. Not a cheap place to eat, but worth a visit. Long though rewarding climb to the top floor if you decide to eat alfresco.
As an Italian I miss the quality of pizza you get overseas but Santoni was like being back home. Very good quality of pizza dough, cooked to perfection. It was a bustling ambience and they staff were run off their feet but still managed to make us feel welcome and tended to our needs well. Would definitely recommend Santoni to all friends and family.
The places was nice. Very busy and noisy. Good food. Really nice pizza. Wait staff polite too
Delicous food in an amazing location. The rooftop bar is a perfect lunching spot on warm days with lots of umbrella's available for much needed shade.
Was on the island table on the rooftop. Minimal room on the far side of the table, opposite the bar which made it a bit uncomfortable sitting twisted to fit for the guys but aside from that couldn’t fault a single thing. Service incredible, patio heaters a great addition as well
Gotta be the best pizza around - very very good. Would recommend to friends...actually I did recommend to a friend today!
