Originally built in 1887 as the third post office in Queensland, the iconic Sandgate Post Office has a new lease on life. Stylish and quintessentially Sandgate, it is a destination venue with an elegant gastro-pub restaurant, a vibrant main bar, a whiskey vault and sun-soaked alfresco dining.

Waited an hour for our food. Some of the order had been plated in the warmer for at least 10 minutes before it was served and subsequently was dried out. Service staff were attentive but Kitchen wasn’t up to par.

Food is lovely, lovely venue and staff. For some reason it is SUPER LOUD in there everyone in the party thought that, to the point you can’t hear people on your own table. We would all definitely go back though they have done such a good job with the refurb.

We went to have dinner. Dining room didn't seem all that busy, but there was a few people. We ordered at 6:15, then enquired about our meals at 6:50 as we had to leave for an event. At 6:55 we were told that our meals were still a while down the list (people next to us order at 6 and received food at 6:55) We then suggested we wouldn't worry about the food as it wasn't even started. Waiter was very apologetic and quite nice. We were disappointed because the menu looked so good :(

Thank you for the feedback. We actually had a big group on the other side of the building that were off to the same event. They had ordered platters in advance to ensure they received the food on time before leaving and another group told staff they were on a time limit so ordered the Show Special which is the rotisserie meals. These can be rushed through the kitchen with the knowledge that there is a time limit. We apologise that the wait times for you were longer than our usual 20-25 minutes.

Service was far from average with our meals taking quite a while to be served 1hr after ordering and it was a quiet Monday night. The table beside us ended up leaving early as their main were taking longer. We had oysters Kilpatrick for entre and they were small shrivelled up and no flavour and totally overpriced. Mains were ok, my stead was good, my friends lamb was dry and unedible. Nice venue, but will never go back or recommend to anyone EVER!

I booked to take a friend for high tea. And whilst I alerted and paid extra to have my dairy allergy catered for I was so sad to see what I received. I had a very sad 'trifle' with no cream/custard alternative. I had 4 ribbon sandwiches with no Nuttelex, 2 identical brownies and 1 cupcake. There was nothing else on the offerings I could eat. I feel like I was overlooked and not valued. I was told the scones were dairy free but was not convinced so I quizzed again to be told they were not. I was offered more sandwiches and received 4 more dry ham and tomato ribbon sandwiches with no butter alternative or mayo to make them palatable. This did not represent value for money and did not show any care for someone with a fairly common food allergy, who paid extra to have it catered for. That said the tea was free flowing and the team were delightful. I was offered many alternative flavours. I wanted to enjoy the day and to recommend it but could not hand on heart if anyone needed a special diet.

We are sorry you didnt like the lactose free trifle that we handmade especially for you. The ribbon sandwiches were freshly made from gluten free bread so they hold their shape. We dont use Nuttelex nor butter in our ribbon sandwiches. Our chefs had them made up especially for your dietary requirements. The meal also included prosecco and was good value. The scones were handmade and dairy free as was the vegan banana caramel cupcake and brownies, shortbread, rumballs and gingerfread also were dairy free.

The reception and customer service was really exceptional specially from Chriscelle. From the time we arrived, she made sure that we were comfortable where we were seated, and that we're looked after from taking our orders, our drinks and food were served till we finished. For sure, we will be going back to the Sandgate Post Office Hotel restaurant soon!

Had a lovely meal with friends visiting from the UK, was our first time but had heard great things and wanted to try it for a special occasion. Did not disappoint and we'll be back for all occasions now, not just the special ones. We all had a lovely time.

Came for the crab lasagna and you had ran out, this was the only reason I made the booking, so very disappointed.

Lovely staff. My friend and I had the rotisserie beef and lamb with the maple glaze pumpkin and veg - it was spectacular - the beef so tender and the lamb juicy and soft. The pumpkin was PERFECT and so tasty. Going back next week and bringing another friend. Only issue was chair not good for back problems, but staff jumped in to that fixed for me. Wonderful dining experience.

Great table service. Meals were delicious, and many options on the menu. We loved the decor and setting of the restaurant. Lovely views of streetscape. Will definitely go again. So special to dine in a true restaurant.

We arrived at 7pm and made our order soon afterwards. Five minutes later we were told that 2/4 choices were not available and made new orders. We asked if our meals were ready at 8pm and were told they were being plated now. three meals arrived about 10 minutes later and the 4th five minutes after that. The staff were very apologetic but gave us no reason for the delays. We sat in a booth and had trouble hearing our friends on the other side of the table. We all enjoyed our meals when they eventually were served.

We do take on your comments and feedback - thank you. Have discussed with the kitchen team. We have been very busy this month with large table bookings which does run some items on the menu temporarily. Unfortunately when people order on different dockets, the times will vary however we do try to organise them at the same time for a table or large groups. Sometimes we do send plates separately for meals like steaks so they dont overcook and to try to reduce your wait times. Am glad you enjoyed the meals though and hope to see you again soon :)

Everything started of wonderfully however as the night went on the food quality and the service dropped of a little which made the finish a little frustrating. The food was good and as expected but the sides were a little bland and not as exiting as the menu indicated as well as them not having the first choice desert when the time came. The service was also excellent but it seemed they didn’t have enough staff on to meet the demand. They were however very apologetic and provided 1 drink free when it took a long time to come. Overall a very good restaurant and i would definitely go back

Great meal with amazing friendly service. Does get a bit noisy in the restaurant though so if you are looking for a quiet place to eat then its not the place. We were in a group and had a fabulous experience

Calling the offerings 'pub grub' would definitely be underselling it! Fine dining it is not, but the food was good, the staff friendly and attentive, and the menus (drinks included) had the usual suspects. I would go again for a casual, afternoon lunch and a drink.

Food was great and the staff very helpful and friendly. The downside was the long wait for our meals and we had ordered coffee with dessert and the coffees just never arrived 🤷🏽‍♀️ We advised the staff member upon paying that we had not gotten our coffees and there was no apology or any explanation. It was a shame because that was what let the experience down on otherwise a beautiful place for dinner ❤️

Mussels were great.. Crab cakes blan. Lobster and avocado tostadas were a joke..two bits of sourdough with some avocado slapped on top and the smallest lobster tails, which looked like small shriveled up shrimp put on top..no seasoning whatsoever and a drizzle of balsamic on the plate..

Very noisy and hard to hold conversation. Waited over an hour for 4 of the meals… 20mins after meal #1 was served. Had to ask staff 4 times to check on meals after 2 tables who sat and ordered after us received their meals. Food however was very good, but would not return due to the wait and noise level.

We had a booking for 6pm. Table of 6. Arrived at 5.55pm. Ordered food at 610pm approx and was told there was a 50mim wait for meals. ( all main meals no entrees) First meals received meals at 7.25pm and the final meal at 7.31pm. The restaurant was busy but not full. Waiting longer than 1hr is unacceptable. Food was good when it arrived but not outstanding.

Some friends had previously visited with a great review. We had the Seafood Tower, Spanish vegetable lasagne and some other tasty treats. The staff, food and service were exceptional. Well done to all involved. We will return!

Booked and arrived for dinner at 5:45, we were told we had to be finished at our table by 7:30pm. Waited 15-20 minutes for someone to take our order. Then waited an hour and our main meal still had not arrived. We were then told it would be another 15 minutes. We had to leave as we had another engagement. Disappointed.

We enjoyed our visit to Sandgate Hotel - overall the meals were delicious - that is the meats from the rotisserie menu were generous and tasty. However the sides of vegetables were overcooked - the beans were grey - don't know when they had been cooked - and the sweet potato fries were dry and dark from reheating. Veggies could be better - especially at the prices. But overall a very pleasant visit and great service. Would eat here again.

As usual the Sandgate Post Office Hotel provided a great venue for my Birthday Dinner, they even provided a glass of sparkling on arrival. I recommend the half chicken and popcorn cauliflower. Very filling. It's a great venue right in the middle of Sandgate.

The food was very average the salad was old no dressing, the chips almost cold & soggy. I was very disappointed with most of our meals. I certainly won't be returning.

Personally had a great meal with the steak. My wife had linguine and the sauce was not good neither was the amount of chilli in in way to overpowering. The staff did the right thing and refunded the meal as my wife just couldn’t eat it. Our young teenagers loved their meals as well overall was good. Little bit hot though.

Great ambience but the two high tables our group were seated at were too close together and made it very difficult for anyone to get up. It would have been very uncomfortable if we were only occupying one high table and didn’t know the people on the adjacent high table as it was almost impossible for someone to get up without bothering the person behind them. The food was fabulous and served hot but both the entrees and the mains were VERY slow to come out. It was very busy though. The service was great. We will be back, we’ll just be mindful that food may take sometime to come out.
