Sammy’s is a GEM! Make a reservation bc it’s a neighborhood & theatre favorite.
Family was visiting for the long holiday weekend and we made last minute reservations here. The restaurant blew is away. The food is spectacular, the staff is kind as can be, and we had the cozy basement all to ourselves. We'll be back regularly for dinner now. Love this place!!!
Loved our hostess Giselle and her sister. What a lovely pair of humans. They made our night PLUS the food was INSANE!!
We were going to see an 8pm show at The Lyric so we reserved a table for 6pm at Sammy’s (according to their website stating to book 2 hours in advance). When bread didn’t come out for 25 minutes, I knew we were in trouble. By 7:45pm our dinner was still not out. We had to leave. They completely overbooked the space and were severely understaffed. I felt bad for our server as she had 12+ tables herself and had to take on all of the complaints.
Unfortunately, most of the customers were in the same boat as us, so everyone had to leave before even getting their dinner. I had never experienced anything quite like it. It’s a shame because the appetizers were good and I know the entrees would have been too.
As always everything was great
Excellent dinner! We were having dinner before a show, prices were very reasonable, and we had the linguini with clams and penne alla vodka sauce with shrimp. Very tasty, and large portions. The Sally Salad was awesome and great to split between the two of us. It was a very busy time but service was attentive and congenial. Open floor plan, so it can be a bit noisy but a good place for large groups. It was our first visit and we will be back!!
Sammy’s never disappoints! Food was 5 star! A must go when we visit Baltimore
They had my friend Marcus Dagan at the piano - wonderful. Selection of beer and wine - marginal. Beef Carpaccio - excellent. Fried calamari - good. Seafood Diavolo - way too spicy and the calamari in it was tough, so just okay. (I guess the diavolo = diablo = devil = hot should have been a warning.)
There was too much confusion upon arrival regarding who had reservations and where diners would be seated. The food was good, as was the wait staff. The noise level is a problem as is the closeness of the tables. Masks seem superfluous when seated literally within inches of others. But, overall, we enjoyed the meal and the proximity of the restaurant to the Meyerhoff concert hall.
Took an hour to get served. Too many customers for the staffing. Not advised if going to BSO unless you want to eat at 5-30pm.
It's been a while since we've been here and we went for my daughter's birthday as her old favorite closed last year. The food was great as was the service. We will be back.
Food was excellent. The kitchen got really backed up because they were short staffed and I think our ticket got lost but the restaurant was wonderful about making accommodations and acknowledging that it was a very long wait. It wouldn’t stop me from going again because it was excellent and you can tell they stand by their product. Dining in COVID requires patience and kindness, and ultimately we ate a delicious meal, so no real complaints here. Pasta was perfectly cooked and everything we had was perfectly seasoned and hot.
I feel like a broken record but I always come away from Sammy's with a smile on my face. Great food and excellent service!
I love Sammys! This is my second time dining there, and it was just as wonderful as the first. Our food was delicious, piping hot and a large serving. We ordered the penne ala vodka with shrimp and the carbonara. Both were excellent and we were happy with our choices. The service was very attentive and pleasant. It is the perfect spot to go before a show in the area, but definitely make a reservation, every table was full on a Saturday night. Highly recommended!!
We dined before a concert. They were attentive, the food was delicious and they got us out in plenty of time for the concert.
Outstanding food and service - can’t wait until the next time!
I LOVE Sammy's, it's always a treat when I get to dine out with my family there. Delicious food and a home-y atmosphere.
This a good restaurant. Not a great or outstanding one. The food is good: neither flawed nor remarkable. The service was good. We ate in the basement (by choice) and only occasionally felt forgotten. The musician there could have used a much improved sound system. As a result he added little.
The duck ravioli was interesting. Bread was delicious! Service was sketchy but understandable. Tables are close together. All in all, a nice experience and we would come again.
I can never say enough good about Sammy's! The food, the service and the conviviality are why we keep coming back
Never disappoints! And they’ve updated their menu to offer outstanding choices for those of us staying away from carbs.
It was Delightful
The food has a Sicilian flair. The antipasti was generous. I had the Chicken Parmesian with penne and it was scrumptious. The Tortellini with Alfredo sauce, spinach and bacon, reported my wife, was spectacular. And she's Italian.
Dining at Sammys is ,always a pleasure after music at the BSO.
Second visit to Sammy's, both in connection with BSO concerts moved from Strathmore (Bethesda), several years apart. Loved it enough the first time to return without researching other places in the area. Food was excellent (we had two preparations of veal); the bread alone is worth a visit.
Only negatives: appetizer and main courses were served simultaneously (with apologies, but still....); both the menu and wines by the glass seemed more limited in choice than what we recalled from the previous visit. Perhaps this was due to pandemic issues, perhaps faulty memory.
Food was fabulous!
The sauces tasted so authentic, very impressive. The service was superb and the atmosphere was cool. Definitely tasted like the food was cooked in Italy. :)
Sammy's is a super neighborhood spot anytime but even better when you're headed for the Baltimore Symphony, close by! It was crazy busy while we were there and they could have used two more staff working that night. 'Cocktails were terrific.
Dinner, oh my Duck Ravioli was superb. My husband's Veal Parm was just the taste of comfort he was looking for on a cool damp fall evening.
We will be baaaaack!
Service was poor abd rushed
Decent, not great. Wait staff worked hard and were friendly.
There is no better place to enjoy an evening with family and friends. Great food, awesome service, and overall a great time!
We understand how understaffed so many restaurants are these days, and wish to be supportive and understanding. Arrived two full hours before our curtain time of 7:30 at nearby myerhoff hall. We were seated, as requested, on the outdoor deck. Every order we placed from wine to our final entrees was delayed to the point we had to gulp the dinners which were finally served after 7:00 and rush to the theater two blocks away. We asked for the bill before the food was finally served, but it was not presented at that time. The final offense, and the one which cannot be overlooked as a circumstance of short staffing, was that my husband, who stayed behind to pay the bill while the three others of us left, paid the bill, adding a presentable $35.00 tip, ONLY TO LEARN LATER THAT THE STAFF HAD ALREADY ADDED THE TIP TO THE BILL! Who automatically adds a tip for a party of four? We searched the website to see if we overlooked notice of this policy and found nothing. Nor was notice provided on the menus, nor was my husband told that gratuity had already been added. This event was a long delayed birthday celebratory dinner preceding performance at the myerhoff, but instead felt like a food eating race followed by an extortion. So angry to have had one of my first restaurant experiences amidst Covid to be ruined. Going back to dining at home, and certainly will not be returning to Sammy’s Trattoria. Gave considerable thought before posting this excoriating review but other diners should be warned about this hidden tip policy.
Never disappointed with Sammy’s. Great food, service and hospitality.
Excellent food. ALL wait staff need to wear masks. Many were not.
We were regulars before Covid and the restaurant and staff never disappointed. However, my two guests and I all found the food excessively salty. Two of us ordered the flounder which unfortunately was ruined by the brine from too many capers. My first glass of wine had "turned" and fortunately the server quickly replaced it with a pour from a freshly opened bottle.
Im hoping with a little more time, this favorite pre-symphony spot can refine it’s cuisine.
Great food and quick service. Sat at the bar for dinner before a show at the Lyric. Plates were quick to come out, staff was attentive, beer was cold and the food was delicious.
Another great meal! Great service and consistently delicious food.
We went for a family get together. The food was amazing, but it seemed they were down a server and maybe someone in the kitchen. It took an hour and 15 minutes to get our food, though it was delicious. They also accommodated allergies very well!
Very nice food, service, environment and will stop by again. Thanks
You can never go wrong at Sammy's -- best food, service and a great atmosphere
