Really a nice ambiance to this place. It can be hard to find though.
Waited over 25 minutes for our check. Eventually had to walk over to the bar and ask to close it out with the bartender.
Terrible service. Took quite a while to make simple drinks. Waiter disappeared for long periods of time. Restaurant was not busy.
First time visit to SALT (Monday Date Night menu), wished we'd started coming here earlier.
The Date Night menu is slightly smaller than the regular menu, but still robust and at $50 total for two people to share, a decent bargain. Also suggest showing up a little bit before 7pm for the Happy Hour Drink reductions (which can be significant) & the date night menu is ready-to-go.
Ordered the tuna tartare nachos, pork belly buns, the Wagyu burger, and Passionfruit Panna Cotta. All were perfectly prepared. We didn't leave hungry! It's a full meal for two people (average height/weight).
My only issue was with the "I'm the Captain Now" bartender creation: this week it was a Manhattan variation with a bacon smoked rye whiskey--it was too sweet for me. Of note, when I make them at home, I cut the vermouth in my own Manhattan's by half, so I suspect that was the problem. So I'm not going to fault the bartender on this one--should have told him to cut the vermouth a bit from normal. The "So Fresh and Green" & the "Barrel Aged Maple Old Fashioned" were otherwise outstanding. The bartender hit them out of the ballpark!
Ambiance was very nice, not quite a speakeasy but rather a very upscale downstairs bar & restaurant. Noise level started low, but it gets louder as the night progresses. The two nice booths at the right of the entrance (where we were seated) echo each others voices, so if you want a bit of privacy from the other booth, speak softly or opt for another table.
One point: when you walk in the building on the LYNN STREET entrance (the ONLY entrance, even though the address is Wilson Blvd) you will see a carpet with "Salt" on it and stairs to the right to a nice bar. That is not Salt, but its sister ship "Open Door." Salt is straight ahead through the heavy wooden door that looks more like a solid wall than door. Perhaps the camouflaged door is why Salt has the speakeasy reputation.
Bottom line: great place with excellent food & outstanding drinks.
Great drinks. Bartenders are very skillful, will do anything you want. Duck buns were heavenly.
Manager and staff were fantastic !!!!
Great ambiance - like one reviewer said, think speakeasy. This restaurant is located below the street (the Salt sign is close to the ground and the entrance is on Lynn St.) and if you end up at Open Road instead, the staff helpfully point you through the wood doors that looked like a wood wall to me. Go down and it's a small restaurant with a modern, loungy vibe. We were told by the host that they ask diners to keep to a two hour max dining experience. We were okay with that (it's a small place) but it might be helpful for other diners to know ahead of making a reservation. Service was excellent and staff was attentive. I attributed some of this to them wanting to keep you moving so that you keep to your two hour limit but not offended by that motive either. I enjoyed the Conquistador cocktail and it's better enjoyed during cocktail hour when prices are reduced. We shared the Gambas al Ajillo, Tuna Tartare Nachos and Beef Carpaccio. The shrimp was excellent the crusty bread soaked up the flavorful oil under the shrimp. Delicious! Tuna Tartare was also good but the Wonton "nachos" were too fragile and kept breaking making it hard to scoop the tuna. With the Beef Carpaccio, I wish I had noticed how thin it was. I realized later this is how it's served and I can't fairly critique the flavor due to having had two drinks already. That said, for the price, you're not getting anything very filling so just be aware that if you're ordering this and are hungry, expect to order more food. We shared all three plates tapas style which is great for trying everything. A good experience but expect $$$ for cocktails/drinks and food.
Very nice! Drinks and food was great! The wine I didn’t like, but the cocktails were very good!
Went for Monday date night. The food was excellent and came out super quickly! We were done eating our 3 course meal ~30 min after we were seated
Our party of three, ranging in age from 50s-70s, had a fantastic dinner here. We enjoyed the speakeasy-ish feel, as well as the knowledgeable and unpretentious service. Thumbs-up for the cheese plate -- so filling the three of us brought home most of our entrees -- and delicious cocktails, especially the Clover Club. The menu is not expansive, but we had no problems finding options to enjoy (cod, tuna and gambas al ajillo were delicious, and we heard rave reviews for the burger). I'd be glad to go back!
PROS: We loved the ambiance: Dimly lit, warm dark palette/decor. Our server was friendly and attentive. Menu has a little bit of everything, including seafood/fish. Serving sizes were good...not to much, and not too small. The food was flavorful, cooked just enough (for example... the brocolli was firm, but not undercooked) and the presentation was nice.
CONS: The music was almost too loud at times. Also note that the style was indie/alternative/pop/rock. Menu has no salads or soups. Although the flavors were good, everything we had was a bit on the oily side. Even my fish came battered and fried (?). I wasn't expecting that. Our server was super nice and professional, but lacked a tiny bit on knowledge of the menu (he wasn't sure exactly how many shrimp came in the appetizer, or what the flavor of the desert was). Also, our main course came out too soon after the appetizer. If you want to enjoy your appetizer before your meal, make sure you express this, and perhaps even order the appetizer first, and later order your main dish.
GOOD TO KNOW: When we arrived, we were told that there was a 2 hour limit on our dinner. This was OK with us. Parking is a little tricky. We luckily found street parking (metered until 8PM), but if you can't get that, expect to park in the garage. And make sure you know how to get into the place ahead of time. Signage is tiny from the street, and there are no signs on the entry door.
I'm not sure if we'll go back, but won't rule it out.
I love this place. The drinks are wonderful. The burger is the best I’ve ever had. It has a great vibe.
Delicious food and drinks!
I loved it but i got a pretty bad seat being right next to the bar and entrance. That said the drinks are great and they succeed in keeping the speakeasy atmosphere. food is not pricy for upscale dining but don't expect prices you would find in a chain like olive garden. A little loud but a great place i'd recommend for dates especially for younger people
Very nice and elegant atmosphere. Good food. Drink a little over priced.
Food was not at all good.. The Burrata had too much croutons in it and very salty…the Gambas aljilo was not made from olive oil and had no flavor to it.. not sure how open table rated them as one of the top 10 restaurants in the dc area… their food doesn’t even rank in top 50.. ambiance is good but food is horrible.. they need to change chef, if they have one and Open Table should not list them as a top 10 restaurant.. it is totally misleading… after this bad experience, will never trust open table’s rating any more.,
The food and drinks were delicious. We really enjoyed our time there!
I regularly dine at Salt Rosslyn. I was there for my birthday recently and had a good experience. The atmosphere was vibrant and fun. The service was attentive and respectful. I enjoy being part of the neighborhood here and respect Metropolitan Restaurant Group's management of the scene in Arlington. We all enjoy each other, the food, the cocktails, the music, the nightlife, and the sense of building a community here. I respect all of it and love being part of it. Mahalo!
We got some appetizers and could have had a wonderful family style dinner with just that! The entrée was amazing... best of all were the brilliant cocktails. The wait staff are attuned to what we might be interested in and were very congenial.
Great little find in Rosslyn. It says 'speakeasy' but Salt is clearly marked outside the restaurant. The cocktails were definitely special, with Salt engraved ice cubes and gas bubbles floating on top of the glasses. Our server was very nice. We had a lovely experience but the cocktails were a little too pricy for just being pretty good. Would go back but only on special occassions
Knowledgeable servers and impeccable food and drink menu.
A pleasant surprise awaits you once you find your way underground which opens to low-lit clubby type trendy dining space. A team of servers takes care of you with pleasure. All are congenial, knowledgeable and appear to enjoy their work. The bartender performs his craft quite well; notable was Toki'n On the Bayou, highly recommended by the lovely young couple seated near us. It did not disappoint with its smokiness and smoothness. Every dish was creative relying heavily on Asian flavors. Calamari, pork belly buns and Togarashi crusted tuna were excellent. Even my kvetchy BF savored his dining experience. Will definitely return to try more dishes that all sounded amazing.
Cocktails were amazing! Food was excellent! We will definitely be back!
Great time, knowledgeable service. Would return again.
Had two of the gin cocktails and the tuna tartare and shrimp, everything was excellent.
We did the Monday Date Night Menu. It was a good amount for 2 people.
Drinks were fantastic, servers/bartenders/hosts were all very friendly. Ambience was perfect. We all had a great time.
It was a very unexpected surprise, absolutely loved the food and the coktails. Definitely going back!
Excellent cocktails and great apps! One of the best drinks I’ve had in the DMV. Would highly recommend. Very intimate experience- great for a date night!
Great service and delicious food/drinks!
The food was amazing, the drinks were incredible, the entire night was very fun!
Nick was an excellent waiter
Amazing cocktails, great food, excellent atmosphere.
Just go! I’m already anticipating the next time I visit this place. Get the wagyu burger and truffle fries. Handsdown one of the best burgers I’ve ever had in my life. Seriously, the other reviews are proof. The tuna tartare nachos were also immaculate and fresh. The shrimp was juicy and perfectly cooked. The ambiance and dim lighting takes everything up a notch. I highly recommended dining here.
I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and it exceeded all expectations! Service, ambiance, food & beverage were all fantastic! We’ll definitely be back for date night or ladies night out!
I hate to tell anyone how fabulous this place is because I do not want them to take over our newest / fabulous restaurant!
Place is perfect for a date night! Monday’s date night menu is 👏🏻👏🏻
This was one of the coolest dining experiences we've had in a LONG time. Loved the cocktails, the food, and the ambiance. Superb.
My favorite spot for a cocktail and yummy food
My boyfriend and I have lived at central place for about a year now and we just now tried SALT. We had an amazing dinner, the food was excellent as well as the customer service.
We will definitely be coming back here often, I think we just found our new favorite spot!
