Salon De Co
Anthony Hales leads the kitchen team at Salon de Co, a born-and-bred Australian with experience from all across the globe. Anthony has run several restaurants including Thomson’s Reserve and Deer Duck Bistro where he achieved several accolades and received his first chef’s hat. Once again venturing to Asia, he journeyed to Korea to learn about its traditional cuisine, before taking a three-month culinary trip around Australia to understand the country’s gastronomic culture. His final return to Brisbane saw him take on his current Salon de Co role, where he’s already won numerous accolades, including finalist in Appetite of Excellence, best fine dining restaurant 2017 from Restaurant and Caterers, and Chef of the Month from Export Fresh.
There were 3 staff on duty, but clearly they two in the front lounge did not care to assist the man running around like a one-armed paper hanger in the dining room. Again, several other diners commented on the randomness of the soft-rock music background. Otherwise, the food was fine.
Beautiful room with eclectic decor. Friendly, welcoming staff. Extensive menu using local produce. Sufficient vegetarian choices. The goat curd churros are inventive. Chive gnocchi with Spring vegetables was perfect- feathery pillows of deliciousness. Salads are delightful, especially the Caesar with pistachio and avocado. Cheese choices extensive served perfectly with all of the accompaniments. The chef clearly loves food, and is proud to tease diner’s palates with inventive creations. I found it to be a wonderful value, and the engaging servers just enhanced the product immeasurably.
Dining room is noisy, even half full. Music could be better chosen than the pop/rock Muzak, the room deserves a curated soundtrack of roaring 20s or French bistro tunes. Choose the beige upholstered chairs unless you need a hard bistro seat. One banquette under the ‘Fragile’ artwork looks very comfortable.
This is a neighbourhood gem in a city of good restaurants.
If you're after culinary flair, spectacular service and amazing value for money - don't sleep on Salon De Co. Staff were accommodating and knowledgeable, the furnishings funky, and the food fit for foodies (without skimping on the servings). Our host Ruben was incredible and could speak confidently on the food, wine, the building / hotel itself and life in general. An absolutely hidden gem in the historical Ovolo Inchcolm.
Enjoyed a mid-week dinner with two other people. Very good service and we shared the lamb shoulder. This was perfectly cooked.
Outstanding, friendly service and amazing food and beverage menu. Compliments to all the staff.
The service is great, well trained waiters. The food is on a little expensive side, but everything is amazingly tasty.
Thomson's Reserve was a foodie experience! We had a the Australian Degustation matched with wines and it was superb and memorable. We will be heading back to the restaurant for a romantic dinner rather than a business meal. Our guests were very impressed by the quality and exceptional service.
I booked this restaurant through open table for New Years Day 2016 but the restaurant was actually shut. There was a chef there taking roon service orders. So Victoria went above and beyond and checked with the chef if they could do lunch for me and they did. The food was amazing and so was the service. Am going back to try their tasting menu and can't wait. I highly recommend you try this place.
The french waitress, I forgot her name, was exceptional in both her knowledge of the food, the service and her ability to read her customers. Food was all very well thought out with impeccable plating. We used our accor membership and felt that was good value however if paying full price I'd expect slightly more generous portions.
great for a special dinner
A lovely experience in a wonderful setting. The building has such character. My only suggestion would be some appropriate music to create ambience, I don't recall hearing any and because of that our table though we had to keep the conversation level down.
My husband and I tried the 8 course tasting menu with matching wines and it was amazing. This is the best tasting menu we have had. Great service from the staff. Made our anniversary a memorable one. We will definitely be back.
This is a hidden gem! Delicious food and warm and efficient service. Don't delay in trying this out for your next special occasion.
Innovative food served in stylish, dark-toned surrounds. Food is carefully presented but portion size is moderate. Our waitress was French and charming.
Fabulous food, excellent service
Delicious food in a charming venue. Lovely old building.
The food is absolutely fantastic. A real 'materchef' experience without being over the top. Absolute value for money and an amazing foodie experience.
I've eaten in great restaurants all over the world and this food was as good as the very best of them. The pricing was also very good given the exceptional quality of the food. The only comment I would make was that the main meal portion size was too small. At the end of the night I felt I had enjoyed one of the best restaurant meals I'd ever had but was starving.
This awesome, funky space made our evening really special. Art Deco gorgeous fit out with a perfect blend of old and new, fab new music that was of a 50's upbeat jazz style, excellent cocktails (I have a new favourite now, who knew violet liqueur even existed?!), sensational food (and we are foodies, we wanted to lick the plates!!) and just generally a great night
Better than we expect - food / service were good ! Will go back for sure !
Fine food, great service. A welcome addition to Brisbane restaurant scene.
The dinner was for a special event, the ambience was very good, the front dining area very nice and intermit. We chose the 3 course option, our entree and main course were very nice. For desert I had the cheese plate, the cheese was very nice, however the biscuit/cracker was very salty and overpowering. My partners combination style desert was too sweet for his liking. Overall a very good experience and we would certainly return.
My large group of friends and I had a terrific dinner here. The staff were incredibly accommodating of our increasingly boisterous group, and were happy for us to order whatever we liked - I'm so used to having degustation being either whole table or nothing! The revived art deco interiors are gorgeous and the food was just amazing. I can't say enough nice things, and I'm sorry we broke two wine glasses.
The food is exceptional! Presentation and taste were incredible! Unfortunately the ambience is lacking and the service was terrible but these are both things that can be improved and if they are then it will be a definite hot spot! Will definitely go back for the food it really was excellent!
Food was exceptional, value for money, outstanding service with an extensive wine list.
Although a computer error had lost our reservation they moved heaven and earth to accommodate my partner and I. I will happily go back and hold no grudges as the food and beverages where complimented perfectly with excellent service. You have got to try the cocktail list. It is excellent
I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. The food was pretty as a picture and 5 star. Great value for money. Service was good.
I booked the night with another couple to celebrate my wifes 70th. Birthday. It was an ideal venue with 4 or five choices in Entree, mains and Desserts and we all had different items in all cases, all of which were considered as excellent. I had difficulty in choosing in all cases and would recommend it for quiet and romantic dining.
Really enjoyed the food!
Excellent food & good wine list (also by the glass). Best food in Brisbane & best food I've eaten since dining at Sepia in Sydney.
Thomson's Reserve Restaurant at The Inchcolm Hotel was absolutely delightful for a celebratory dinner The restaurant's ambience and charm of the premises and newly refurbished decor was classic and subtle. The Socialite's Bar (just across the corridor) was a great start to the evening - wonderful cocktails (old and new). The Reserve Restaurant provided a convenient relocation and wonderfully fresh, local, sustainable, organic meals.Great service. Great wine. Great food. A lovely evening.
It was my wife's birthday I said this when I was booking. They made no effort to acknowledge the birthday or anything else. The restaurant was so cold it was unbearable. Unfortunately on the night we had to content with two functions this made us wait for a very long time for a second course.
Amazing Food, all our guests loved it and said they would definitely bring back their loved ones.
Absolutely beautiful food and great service, gorgeous building as well.
Very frustating booking on line only, need a phone number to call if late etcFood good, room noisy and too trendy,Too expensive for the environment preferred the old restaurnt
Great service, great food, lovely whiskey menu
Food was wonderful! Small but adequate servings with beautiful flavours and fabulous presentation. For me, a little over salted but my husband thought it was perfect. A negative - it is a small restaurant where tables for two are very close together. Not suited to intimate dining.Service was polite and efficient although our initial greeting by the man behind the bar was not particularly warm or welcoming.Food is well worth the visit though!
Well presented, quiet and clean - service was good, just seamless & there when you wanted it. Food & drinks & advice about options were very good. Will be back
The dining room and bar or small but beautifully renovated. Service was excellent ( thank you Kingsley) but we were all a little disappointed in the food. Great presentation but not a lot of flavour. Perhaps we expected too much from many glowing reviews. We did have a lovely night however and would definitely recommend it for drinks or a romantic dinner alternative.
Wonderful food and atmosphere. Definitely will visit again
