Sake Restaurant & Bar Flinders Lane
Book your next event with us
The Sake Restaurant and Bar Flinders Lane was excellent in all respects including really good cocktails and patience with us in changing our booking three times due to our party numbers changing over 24 hours.
Had a great set menu lunch at Sake in Flinders Lane. Food was amazing and the service was excellent.
Sake Flinders Lane are so accomodating to dietary requirements. I highly recommend if you have one in your group. Always yummy and fresh and delicious. Thanks!
Was ok, service a little slow but had not as attentive or as good food wise as it’s sister place on the Yarra river
The food was great but the quantity was so small and very expensive. I wouldn’t mind paying a lot if there was enough food in one dish. Otherwise the quality of the food was great.
the lamb is not good
The food and service were outstanding! Been meaning to try this place for ages, as I really enjoyed their Sydney location.
Seated under the skylight so lovely winter light. The food was exquisite and I found it quite quiet which is something I value.
From the very first mouthful we were all commenting how amazing the food was.
The cocktails that our waitress recommended were all really nice. Everything was cooked to perfection with very moorish flavours and beautifully presented.
Great service and good food.
Disappointing - very expensive for poor food and a terrible experience sitting at the bar with constant interruption from staff.
- We asked for input on how much to order - were told to order about 3-4 dishes too many
- We ordered cocktails - we got the wrong ones
- Food was average -- nothing truly special
- We booked for a romantic dinner for our anniversary - was seated at the bar with my husband constantly being poked by a plant. The bar was loud and staff felt compelled to keep interrupting our conversation with comments like "ooh thats my favourite dish here etc"
Memorable for all the wrong reasons - glad we had booked somewhere else for dessert to end the evening on a higher note.
Bad staff experience.
The place was bustling with activity and the food was great! Staff was quick and on-the-point with orders.
Great food. Friendly and competent wait staff. Good wine list. All together makes for a very pleasant place to meet for lunch.
Absolutely loved the food there! Enjoyed every minute of it with my partner and would definitely come back with my friends next time!
All good. Food was excellent.
Really lovely place, amazing food and our waiter was fabulous. Can't wait to be back.
good food and cocktails, but the cocktails took a while to arrive and the food was served in disorderly fashion. The sashimi arrived last and the yakitori and main dishes we ordered first, which was very confusing. It made for an uncertain dining experience as we were wondering if dishes had been forgotten. Service a little haphazard. Given the price of the meal, we did expect better.
I thought the meals were very small.. And a bit too tricky for Japanese food. The music was very loud and the service was mixed. Some waiters excellent- others not as good. The pricing was very high.
Disappointing. Understanding that it was different to the SAKE near Hamer Hall, we were still expecting a spectacular dining experience. We were guided by service staff to select the $95 chef selected menu and while they took account of food preferences, the overall experience was less than satisfactory for the price. In lieu of a meat dish two diners in our party were provided a large sauted hunk of leek that you couldn't even eat with a knife and fork, never mind chop sticks. Although it was replaced by a nice alternative which happened to be the dish of the evening, it didn't make up for the ordinary dishes that made up the rest of the dinner. Beware that the wine is upmarket and seriously overpriced.
My wife and I enjoyed Sake down on Southbank last year and when we heard they were coming to Flinders Lane we were eager to give it a shot.
Opening a new restaurant must be fraught with frustration - even with the most experienced crew in the world, there will always be teething problems, and, as such, we decided to let Sake settle in to her additional location a few months before giving it a shot.
This past Sunday, we wandered in, having made a booking via OpenTable. We happened to be greeted by the manager who is simply outstanding - friendly, engaging, genuinely wants to make sure her guests are having a great time. A wonderful start!
The menu at Sake on Flinders Lane is different than the other locations - and that's probably for the best. Different environment, different options. No doubt there are seasonal variations as well.
Since this was our first visit for this location, we randomly sampled from the nigiri, sushi rolls, hot starters, yakatori and no doubt other things...oh, yes, a full bottle of sake. That may have been a tactical error, but a deliciously tasty tactical error.
The fish was superb. Fresh, flavourful, beautifully presented, seasoned (in some cases) and paired (as appropriate) with the Green Goddess of Sinus Cleansing (fresh wasabi), everything was truly delicious.
o Rainbow sushi roll. Loved it so much, we ordered a second one
o Chicken breast yakatori with wasabi salsa. WARNING: THIS WILL MAKE YOU FEEL LIKE YOU STUCK AN ICEPICK INTO YOUR EYEBALLS. If you know wasabi, you know the "heat" I'm talking about, but be warned, this is intense stuff, delicious and mind blowing. They could honestly sell the wasabi salsa on its own and I'd buy it by the litre.
o The "meatballs" are massive. Delicious, but, hugely filling. Be warned
We loved our visit so much that we've booked in again for this weekend. I suspect we'll be (broke) regulars in no time!
