As always, the best place in the Midwest to eat--one of the very best in the nation. I ordered the veal, and while I thought I was going to get the veal chop I got the tenderloin. It was excellent. Our guests were thrilled with everything.

Another wonderful evening! Without question, The Club provides the best food and wine experience in Saint Louis. The staff cares deeply about maintaining this reputation, and it shows.

This was the perfect winter indoor dining experience! We started with a delicious, complimentary 3-part AMUSE BOUCHE -- a small bite of savory pastry + a "shot" of ideal-temperature soup + an two incredible bites of octopus. Then, as an appetizer, three of us shared the FONDUE SAVOYARDE -- THE best fondue any of us had every eaten (and we ALL are BIG fondue fans)!!! The chef comes from the region where they invented fondue. You can tell. Even though the fondue was, technically, a communal dish, they managed to keep our dipping completely COVID cautious. We had enough to take home leftovers. We also loved the tiny NANTUCKET BAY SCALLOPS entree, split three ways as an appetizer. Like little balls of butter ... in Lobster Sauce with tiny, tasty pearl vegetables, lemongrass and just a hint of ginger. One of my guests saw BACON-WRAPPED MONKFISH on the menu (her favorite fish), and she decided right away she had to have it, even though she wasn't sure she would love the bacon. She feared it might be soggy. Great choice, she said. The bacon was super thin and crispy -- perfect! -- and added just the right flavor to the fish. My other guest and I knew we couldn't go wrong with the DOVER SOLE with MEUNIERE SAUCE -- always incredible. We didn't hold back on dessert -- RHUBARB TARTELETTE had delicious pastry + Italian Meringue. SO good! And the GRAND MARNIER SOUFFLE looked almost too gorgeous to eat -- almost. All night, the glasses of wine the sommelier paired with our choices could not have been better. He even offered two side-by-side tastings to see whether the wines we THOUGHT were our favorites really were -- and we liked HIS suggestions better. What fun to branch out. Eventually, we just said, "Surprise us!"

Without blinking, the Club let me order their phenomenal Nantucket Bay Scallops as an appetizer instead of the featured entree-sized portion, which was PERFECT! I knew I wanted to try a soup (Caramelized Sunchoke Bisque -- vegetarian -- YUM!) AND then be more of a carnivore for my third course (Pan-Seared Prime Veal Loin with Morel Cream Sauce -- maybe the best sauce I have tasted ANYwhere!), then I hoped -- maaaybe -- to save room for dessert), so I appreciated the Club's willingness to "right-size" the scallop dish for me. It came with Lobster Thai Sauce I wasn't sure I would love, but the sauce came in a shot glass, so I could taste test, but one taste, and I ended up pouring it out onto my scallops -- every drop. One of my guests raved about his order of Pan-Seared Foie Gras with carmelized pear, aged balsamic sauce & toasted brioche. He ordered the Veal Loin, too, and felt the same way about the sauce I did. Lots of morels. Really rich flavor. The third member of our party opted for Caramelized Butternut Squash Bisque with Mascarpone Cheese, which he declared perfect for the winter night. He arrived hungry and hit the bread basket pretty hard, super happy with the assortment. He chose the Grilled Prime Ribeye Steak with Sauce Choron and couldn't have been happier. We all commented on the accompaniments -- a stuffed green cabbage prettier and tastier than anything grandma used to make, roasted cauliflower a nice light side, perfectly cooked. I took the decadent-looking Potatoes au Gratin home and still haven't worked out enough to deserve them. My table mates declared them "divine!" None of us had room for dessert, but we appreciated the dish of small sweets they delivered to our table. We didn't resort to arm wrestling over the Club-made caramels or the cutest little round, buttery cake or the fragile-looking tuile pastry/cookie or the chocolate truffle. We could have done without the gel candy, but, still, a fantastic finish. A fantastic feast, in fact!

Excellent! I hosted two guests who had not experienced the Saint Louis Room in a long time -- maybe five years. They said it was good back then -- better than good -- but their minds were blown this time, starting with the Amuse Bouche -- a mini dish of ceviche, a little shot glass of yummy soup & an incredible bite of swordfish. The menu is HUGE. We had lots of questions, but our servers were so helpful, patient and knowledgeable. They could not have steered us better. One guest had Butternut Squash Bisque with Foie Gras Sponge Bread & Mascarpone for her first course. She called it "the best fall flavors on one spoon!" I ordered the gluten-free/vegetarian Carmelized Sunchoke Bisque. Sooo creamy. How do they DO that?! Really delicious. Our friend had the Boston Bibb Lettuce with roasted root veggies, candied walnuts, dried cranberries & Champagne Vinaigrette. Another perfect choice for fall, she said. We were fairly traditional with our entrees -- Dover Sole (a BIG hit); Pan-Roasted Atlantic Cod with Sauce Meurette (a "mind blow"), and; Jumbo Sea Scallops cooked perfectly. I had hoped for Nantucket Scallops (the teeny ones), but the season hasn't started yet. "Soon!" the maître d said. I'll definitely go back. If they prepare the jumbo ones this well, I can't wait to taste what they do with my favorites. Two of us opted for after-dinner drinks instead of dessert, but one guest ordered what they said was a brand-new fall dessert: Rhubarb Tartelette with Rhubarb Crêmeux, Italian Meringue, Rhubarb Jam and "the best crust I've ever tasted," she said. I heard the same comment from a man at another table about the pastry on his French Apple Tart. They even brought a little tray of tiny French desserts to share at the end, including truffles, homemade caramels, this cool, crunchy, curved pastry thing and tiny, buttery walnut cake bites. SOOO good and unexpected!

The Swordfish with Mushroom-Artichoke Salsa hit a based-loaded home run with the two of us who ordered it. It came with a delicious side served in a shell -- an amazingly creamy base of zucchini puree + asparagus, fava beans and tender asparagus spears. We called it, "The shell of awesomeness." A Risotto Cake finished the plate. YUM! We told Sommelier Rob to surprise us with wines by the glass -- He brought perfect pairings. Dessert: Raspberry Almond Pistachio Dacquoise. Oh, my! Pretty, light and fabulous. My other guest ordered the Dover Sole -- a big hit! -- even though they can't filet it tableside due to COVID precautions. We really appreciated all of the efforts they made to be safe without being stifling or obvious about it -- gloves, masks, super-careful wine service.

I ordered one of the Vegetarian entrees -- The Moroccan Couscous. FANTASTIC! So full of flavor. So many colors of summer veggies + dates + amazing vegan "sausage," paired perfectly with our wine. One guest ordered Grilled Jumbo Sea Scallops and raved. My other guest had the Braised Halibut with Lobster-Scallop Mousse + Champagne Sauce. He declared it "outstanding!" Just the tastes & textures he had hoped for. The Grand Marnier Souffle + the Chocolate-Filled Macaron + the little tray of sweet treats at the end made us ALL roll out of the dining room smiling.

The Saint Louis Room at the Saint Louis Club has the very best food in St. Louis and arguably the best view. It has the traditional virtues of a private club, quiet, decorum, personalized service, without any of the stuffiness.

The Saint Louis Room is terrific. Bar 14 is terrific (ask for the Macchu Picchu). But there is a problem with this Open Table program. I registered for a 7:00 p.m. reservation. The first screen back indicated a 7:00 p.m. reservation, BUT the subsequent email confirmation said 6:00 p.m. I could not figure out a diagnosis for the error nor could I find a way to fix it. When I called the office the next morning they had us down for 7:00 p.m., so no problem at the operational level. But there is a glitch.
