Lovely restaurant, food was very tasty, had Sunday lunch, dropped one star as it coukd have been a little hotter, but it was still fine. Plenty of vegetables came with the mains. Staff were very nice, blonde waitress was exceptionally helpful and accommodating. Overall, a lovely afternoon.

Food was cold veg was hot. Has the makings to be fab but no thought goes into service. They bring your pre dinner drink then two seconds later your meal without any thought that you’d like to actually drink your aperitif. Could do with an older wiser supervisor to explain how eating out works. Have been several times and yesterday was the poorest.

Would have been nice to have been acknowledged when we arrived & were waiting at the bar. Think there was a wedding in another room but the person behind the bar could have said helloI’ll be with you in a minute. So service was a tab slow but the food was very well presented and very tasty. Nice to get Sunday lunch after 530pm.

Overall pretty poor/mediocre experience unfortunately Food choice availability as awful and the actual roast as only ok. We ate at 7 pm. Roast potatoes has been cooked for hours and were like bullets. Very difficult to cut Waitress got the drinks order wrong and it took ages to actually pay as they had forgotten to bring the machine after bringing the bill. Place was empty btw !!!!! Disappointed with the restaurant and will definitely not recommend

Lovely place. Decor mostly beautiful and in keeping with the rustic vibe though the obvious bare new MDF walls let it down a tiny touch.Lovely and clean through out. Service and Food were fantastic could not have asked for better. Well priced,4 Sunday lunches with 2 alcoholic drinks and 2 soft drinks about 100.

Very average food for the price. The pork in particular was tough and cold. The side of pigs in blankets was so small I didn’t even realise it was on the plate until the server pointed out I already had my side on the plate. Quite the extravagance to charge for a side that has to be pointed out by the server. Only one other table in so there was no atmosphere. I had been really looking forward to this visit and was bitterly disappointed by the whole experience.

It was rubbish and we wont be going back. The restaurant setting was lovely however thats where it ends. They inexplicably ask how you want your beef cooked on a Sunday lunch using silly terms. Ill take somewhere between rare and shoe leather thanks. Sadly it arrived like shoe leather and took full use of my molars to get it down. They think Madri is an acceptable lager which shows the place lacks class. But the biggest thing is this lovely restaurant allows dogs in. If you're paying the top end of gastropub prices for a 3rd rate roast then the sight of mangy dogs sharing your environment is an insult. Perhaps they'd enjoy the beef more than us though. Just go elsewhere, anywhere really.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. Whilst we're pleased you enjoyed the setting and surroundings, we're sorry to hear your meal did not meet expectations. "Pink or past" is a commonly used phrase in many restaurants when serving roast beef cooked to order, as guests often have different preferences. We're disappointed to hear your beef wasn't to your liking and, had our team been made aware during your visit, we would have welcomed the opportunity to replace it or put things right for you. Madri is a world lager and one of our most popular beers, although we appreciate tastes differ. We also proudly advertise ourselves as a dog-friendly venue, something many of our guests value as part of the relaxed countryside atmosphere we offer.

Warm welcome from staff and quickly acknowledged our wedding anniversary with comped drinks. Great selection of tasty starters and main courses. Staff very friendly and accommodating all evening. Very dog friendly. Would be very happy to recommend and visit again if we return to the area. Plenty of car parking but no footpath beyond the housing area for walkers from Barnard Castle.
