Rose & Crown
The 17th Century building has seen some comings and goings over the years but has been in the safe hands of Dermot and Lisa Nally since November 2013. The promise is to deliver a warm and friendly welcome to all our visitors and hope that they can relax and enjoy the experience.
We use only locally sourced produce and maintain a fresh focus on what we serve.
Really good food and friendly staff had a meal in the bar area only issue we had was that while we waited for the table to be ready there was no where to stand without being in the way
Went for the Sunday roast, managed to get booking at short notice. Food lovely and hot, roast beef delicious and tender, nice pint of ale to wash it down. 4 other tables eating at the time, although it was 2.30 so slightly late for the lunch rush. Overall, really enjoyed it, great food, welcoming hosts and excellent value for money. Many thanks!!
We traveled a long way to this pub after reading reviews on trip advisor. The table we were offered was next to a hen party so we got moved to the bar next door! No atmosphere at all. The pub said it recommended their pie of the day on tip advisor, so we ordered them to be told they only had one left. Only 45 minutes into their lunch service! I ordered macaroni cheese, it was grey and disgusting, possibly one of the worst meals I’ve ever eaten. My son said his pie ,mash and veg reminded him of bad ‘school diners’. As this meal was part of a present that included a trip to the big cat sanctuary. It really spoilt my sons day as we both felt unwell after eating at this ‘ recommended pup
We hadn't visited the Rose & Crown for very many years and always remember it being quite a special venue in years gone by. Well it certainly didn't disappoint and we will be returning with friends. The ambience and charm of the interior is everything that you could expect from a decent country pub and the garden is a good size too. We brought our well behaved dog along who was welcomed in the bar area where we had reserved a table for lunch. The food was good, between us we had the calves liver, home-made chicken curry and the duck salad, everyone was pleased with their choices and the portions were of good proportions. The staff were friendly and chatty, it was service with a smile. The food could have been just a little quicker coming out but that's probably because we were all very hungry on arrival so 40 minutes felt more like an hour. All in all this is definitely a place worth visiting.
This the best publican and staff. Always friendly and very helpful. Really good value and pretty shaded beer garden. Lovely log fires in winter. Can’t say enough good about the pub!
Nice food, pleasant surroundings, attentive and cheerful staff.
Back to form for one of our local pubs. We will be back again soon
Landlord extremley attentive and waitress couldnt fault it highly recommend lovely pub tucked away in countryside.changing menu this week keeping it fresh.
Well done rose and crown! Best ive had in ages!
Very good food & service would visit again. Excellent pie!
Very welcoming, excellent service food is amazing would definitely recommend to my family and friends. Will be returning very soon
Went there with a party of 8 for a family event. Dinner was very successful and staff worked hard to give good service. We all had the tapas menu which we thought was excellent.
Very nice pub good food and drink, felt welcomed. Atmosphere good. Large garden areas. Comfortable indoor areas. The food we ordered was very good and of good proportion.
We were very impressed by the range of the menu, the service and the standards. A fabulous little find. So good that we went for second night in a row!
Friendly greeting on arrival, promptly shown to table by our server who was pleasant and welcoming. Drinks order taken fairly quickly. Given enough time to make our selections (party of 6) and once ordered food came in a very reasonable time period. We only had mains and everyone enjoyed their choices from Sunday Roast to fish & chips through to veggie dish as well as salads (which incidentally contained lots of chicken/bacon/avocado in one and prawns/crayfish in the other). Sat in restaurant not too busy but was almost full when we were leaving. Enjoyed the meal and who return if in the area.
Unlike other PH closing down every week the R & C is a thriving friendly PH with excellent food / casks of ales staff friendly users friendly ideally located. Highly recommended 6 out of 5 stars
Lovely food as always. The manager is very smiley and happy as to are his staff. One thing I would like to see is a few more veggie meals on the menu .
What a wonderful evening we had. The food was delicious, the setting so beautiful and the staff very friendly. We were made to feel so welcome. Thank you for such a great evening.
Lovely evening meal at the Rose and Crown. Warmly welcomed by all staff. Great choice of food and all delicious. Staff attentive but not overly.
Definitely going back for more !
Warm and friendly service, good value food. Would recommend.
Lovely place, food and service. Food was lovely and the right amount
Food was excellent - the roast beef was so tender and one of the best that I have had out at a pub.
Roast potatoes were also better than usual out
Quantities were excellent.
Service from the two female waitresses was warm and helpful
Would certainly go there again when next in that area
Very disappointing to be honest, as it was recommended to us, the staff were friendly and the service was good, but our food, was poor, starters were the specials, asparagus with poached egg, far too much garlic and oil floating about, ruined the taste of the asparagus, which we were looking forward too, as we assumed it would be local asparagus, a delicious dish, if kept simple. Mains were sausage and mash, sausages overcooked to the point of totally dried out and lacking flavour, calves liver, again, overcooked to the point of looked and tasted like leather, fortunately, we had our dog with us, so she ate most of the liver, which was some consolation. A plus point is they do allow dogs in the bar and garden areas. The meal averaged out for 2 courses at £21 a head, the wine Merlot was nice at £18 a bottle, the pub is in a very nice setting. Will not be rushing back.
Always a pleasure visiting our local hostelry. Staff are always lovely and there’s a good atmosphere when we eat in the bar. Love their tapas.
Really sorry to say this because the staff are so nice, but the food is very poor. Quite simple food cooked and presented badly. I think a new chef is required. It could be a great venue. We didn’t complain but the lady who served us could clearly see we were very disappointed because we left a lot of our main course. She did deduct the cost of one and half the cost of the other and offered us desserts on the house but by that time we were not very keen. Nice place and nice people but, guys, sort the cooking out or you will lose all of your custom. Incidentally it was a Friday night and the pub/restaurant were both almost empty at 8 pm.
Lovely old characterful pub. We’d never been before, but having found it online, decided to book a table in the bar area after having been on a walk locally. We were very pleased that we did. The staff were very friendly and efficient, the food was lovely, beer excellent and the atmosphere very pleasing. Will definitely go back again sometime.
Great place my two boys loved it not even grumpy old mans could dampen our lunch
We dined here Saturday night for our 10 year anniversary - we had the restaurant area to ourselves for the first half of the meal which was lovely! (Our reservation was at 6.30pm). Food was great - my partner (a chef himself) said his burger was the best he had ever had! The stuffed peppers were delicious and our waiter was really nice and friendly as was the lady behind the bar who greeted us when we arrived. It was busy and noisy in the bar area as they had a sport event showing on the TV but the locals seemed very friendly also. The only thing negative was we were a little cold - we were seated near the radiator but it wasn't on but all in all a fab evening!
Food was delicious, friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere. Would definitely return.
As an ex restaurateur I would normally only put complimentary reviews and refrain from making negative comments but I will make an exception with this.
Wanted somewhere different for Sunday lunch. This looked good on web. Easily got table for 2pm - that should have warned us! Arrived 10 mins early apologised for this and had a drink. Shown to table. Less than third full 45 cover ish restaurant that with us had 16 people in it. Waited over 20 mins and asked to order and was told that Arran had other orders to take. Odd as they were far from busy and Arran could be seen behind the bar. Another 20 mins or so waiting and then asked for food. Told that as we came in early they had to cope with a table of 10 first ! Pate and soup - OK. Waited another 10 mins or so for mains during which time Arran wandered by, attended the fire and at every opportunity he had to look at himself in the mirror over the fire (which was often) he would run his fingers through his hair. Roast Beef and Lamb arrived. Looked great on plates and large portions BUT plates were cold. Potatoes were cold/warm and it was obvious had been left sitting for somewhile. Pots of gravy were warm. Yorkshire puddings looked good but again cold. Small ramekin of veg to share which was hot and crisp. Beef was tough and smelt/tasted heavily of cooking fat - inedible. Lamb not that great. We both left most of our meals as they were generally cold and inedible. Pushed the 2 plates of uneaten food to the end of the table. Arran eventually picked them up without a word nor asking about the food which had been left at which point we told him why it was left which he ignored. Asked for bill. It eventually came and asked for card reader. Arran dissapeared to get it but never came back. Next he was on the other side of the room chatting. Got cash and left money at bar. Having complained twice about service decided no point in complaining further about food. With only 20 covers on a Sunday between 2-3pm says it all !
Always reliable. Big varied menu.
Roasties are the only bit that could be better!
Service always great and you always get a warm welcome
Lovely Sunday roast, with quick service and friendly staff despite being very busy. Would recommend.
Staff friendly and welcoming. The day we visited was very quiet, so there was not much atmosphere, but we can imagine that on a busy winter’s day, with the log fires burning, this place would be really exciting.
Absolutely gorgeous food and would definitely recommend
Excellent food drinks and service, a thoroughly enjoyable evening
1st visit & will definitely be returning.
Food was gorgeous, service was great and we were made to feel very welcome.
Not your typical pub prices but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for, well worth paying that little extra.
Really enjoyed dinner lovely atmosphere and very polite staff was made to feel welcome food was good
Found this place last year and had a drink. Warm and friendly atmosphere. So decided to try the food on our return visit. Wonderful friendly staff and service. Definatley going back next time we visit the area again.
Really nice food and much better than the standard chain pub fare. Worth the detour for a relaxed tasty lunch.
Absolutely loved this pub
Nice roaring fire.
Lovely Sunday lunch in a convivial atmosphere. The staff were friendly and efficient and the food arrived quickly. My only complaint - and this is a personal thing - is that the beef was carved too thickly for my taste, something I'm sure could be rectified if asked for on a subsequent visit.
