Great food and great customer service. Had the meatballs with chicken parm, was the best I’ve had. Will be returning to try other entrees!
Fabulous! Will go back as soon as possible. The food was delicious, the salad greens incredibly fresh, all combinations great!
This restaurant has been around for a very long time, but seems to have had its ups and downs. In its early days, it was very formal. On a Saturday night when we couldn't get any other reservation in this foodie town, we decided to take a chance on the Roma Cafe. Wow, were we surprised. The food was fantastic - well beyond our expectations. Apparently there is a new chef and we were impressed. I had the clams in squid ink pasta, my partner had a putanesca pasta, and we shared a chicken liver appetizer. We also shared the cronut with goat cheese for dessert. Loved every mouthful. Service was attentive and casual. We'll be back.
Portion size was extremely small. $30 pork ragu pasta was about 8 oz and nothing came with it. Bread was extra. Brussels sprout appetizer was $10.00 and had 6 Brussels sprouts cut in half. Food quality was good but not memorable and totally overpriced. Would not go back.
We had the fried Brussels sprouts and meatballs as appetizers. The Brussels sprouts were under cooked and hard, the sauce on the meatballs was old. Our entrees were chitarra carbonara, which was watery and not a true carbonara at all. The pasta in this dish was bland as if they forgot to salt the water. The second entry was the squid ink tagliatellini pasta with clams. It came with a whopping four (4) clams for $26 and the pasta was salty. They must have used the salt that was missing from the carbonara in the squid ink pasta. It was a slow night with only three tables occupied when we entered the restaurant so it should not have been difficult to get these meals right. The waiter was kind and attentive, but we will not be back and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
We had meatballs, English pea crespelle and chicken parm. The parm tasted good, the chicken was a good size on top of a small portion of pasta.
The crespelle tasted awful to me and had a terrible texture, my partner did enjoy it though. Meatballs were good not amazing.
Super nice waitstaff and delicious food in a very comfortable beautifully converted old house.
Comfortable, quiet and a beautiful place !!
The staff was very friendly and helpful, our waitress was very kind! The food was delicious - felt like I was back in Italy! The food was prepared quickly and the atmosphere of the restaurant was cozy and inviting!
Would 100% recommend it!
Our sever was Matt and he was excellent. Gave us some Roma history upon request and made great recommendations
They brought complimentary champagne for our anniversary. Intimate atmosphere, delicious food .
Great service and nice atmosphere for privacy. Food was excellent although little smaller portions.
Dining at Roma is a treat. The staff is warm and welcoming. The menu is diverse and the food is delicious. This restaurant is a gem!
Scrumptious food appetizer to dessert paired with superb service. Very safe COVID precautions.
10/10 experience. Great wine, great service. I felt very comfortable in the restaurant. Our waiter was just the right amount of attentive and friendly. I hope to go again soon!
Tho it was a birthday, there no mention of our request. Food was delicious. Had to wait 45 minutes for entrees, and we were the only party there, beside another couple.
We were so excited to try Roma - but were sadly let down. The service was impeccable, that could not have been better. Cocktails were delicious 8/10. We ordered the Brussels sprouts with whipped feta 12/10. For entrees we ordered the pork ragu which wasn’t bad not nothing exciting 6/10. The squid ink pasta with a measly 4 clams was flavorless and pitiful 2/10. We also ordered the squash agnolotti and they were just extremely underwhelming. Atmosphere was cute but unfortunately just not worth it.
I’ve been here twice now - once in August on a double date while on vacation, and again in April for a nice meal as part of a bachelorette party group. Both times the food was absolutely fantastic! Roma has an intimate vibe - it feels like you’re dining in someone’s front parlor. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice Italian meal or special occasion dinner!
Everything was fantastic but I felt the portions were a bit small.
Our first time eating at Roma, tables were spaced apart, food was flavorful and the staff was kind and attentive. We will be back soon!
Always a pleasure to dine here. Good food and excellent service.
Always exceptional food and service!
Dined there Friday night. Thought food just ok. Would not return. Portions generous but prefer higher quality and less quantity. Clam fritter appetizer barely any clam taste. Chicken parm entree heavy dish which we shared. Dessert of lemon curd and beignets very good + wine pour generous.
Our Server, Matt was great and helped us choose the best small plates and pasta dishes. The Brown butter bourbon old fashioned was so good that we're trying to make it at home. We're looking forward to returning soon.
Our meal at Roma was fabulous. Drinks were great, appetizers were great and entrees were excellent. The atmosphere was quiet and sophisticated but not stuff. Our server was professional and friendly -- attentive but not overbearing at all. It was a fantastic experience beginning to end. It is not inexpensive. Our bill for four was 240.00 with tip.
We had appetizers, drinks, and entrees. We'll definitely go again, but not for an impromptu dinner out as this was.
Great place. Never fails to please.
Great food and service was excellent
Having lived in Portland in the late 70's, we used to eat at Roma quite often. We moved away and just returned to Maine this week and decided to try it with our friends from New Hampshire. The ambiance still gracious, the menu pleasing, a nice Italian wine list and the service outstanding. We will be back.
The food was fresh and delicious. The ambience was quiet and cozy. Overall we had a great experience. We recommend the Grill Sweet Potato, Tagliatelle Bolognese and the Goat Cheese Cheesecake.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in Portland. Excellent service, great food and nice ambience.
Food was amazing, staff friendly, and the restaurant was quaint and beautiful.
My fiancé and I celebrated my birthday at Roma and had a fantastic experience and dinner! Excellent, attentive service/staff. The drinks, homemade pasta and dessert were delicious. We will definitely be back!
I was really impressed by Roma, we were sat in a lovely nook it was a very relaxed and quiet night which I enjoyed, it felt like we had to the place to ourselves. Our server was experienced, attentive and didn’t miss a beat. We were most impressed by the food!
Excellent food and service. We'll be going back again soon.
All three appetizers, three different entrees, and two different desserts were superbly crafted and delivered. The only complaint voiced by my guest is that the portions of the entrees were smaller than expected and less than they might have been given the price. It wouldn’t take much to bump up the volume by 15% to increase the value part of the equation to the established quality.
Fantastic food and time with my wife for Valentines Day
Roma was incredible! Everything tasted great and the services was excellent
We celebrated Valentine's Day at Roma. This was our first time there. The ambience was nice. We were hoping for more salad options. The Brussel sprouts were a little over done. The steak was delicious. However, the temperature of all of the food was room temp. And the Prosecco brand they have was a little flat. The Montepulciano that they serve is great. Since the back room is so small, soft music would be nice so that you don't overhear everyone's conversations. Overall, it was a good experience.
We had a lovely meal. Room was quiet, tables spaced appropriately for covid.
The waitstaff were excellent! Our meal and desserts were sublime.
