We have dined at Riva many times and had always had both amazing service and food. Last night was not the case. We were a party of 7 celebrating our anniversary and not only was the air condition not working when we asked the waiter if the A/C was an issue he was clueless. It was obvious it was warm in the restaurant and to be honest when we checked in the host should have told us there were issues upfront. The waiter was totally ignoring our table and it was not busy at all so there was no excuse for that. It took awhile before they even brought the bread try to our table. We finally ordered and got our food and it was delicious as always. At one point we thought our waiter left for the night since we didn’t see him anymore and a waitress started helping out. We were so confused who was taking care of us. Later on during dinner we saw our waiter helping another table. When the waitress asked if we wanted any after dinner drinks we ordered them and 10 minutes later another waiter asked us if we wanted to order after dinner drinks. Communication was definitely an issue last night between the staff. We will definitely be back regardless of the horrible service we got last night but thought you should be aware of what happened last night.
Perfect setting and location for dinner prior to a Shakespeare Theater show. Wonderful view of the lake. We will go again. I
When I submitted our reservation on open table i noted it was a special occasion (wedding anniversary). Absolutely nothing was done, not even verbally saying happy anniversary. I am disappointed with the service we received. Upon sitting down our server did not introduce himself, did not give any of the normal pleasantries. Eventually I had to ask him why his name was. When we received our appetizer he said “enjoy your meal” as if we were only having an appetizer. We had to tell him we wanted to order our entrees as he never went over the menu, ask if we had any questions, nor point out the chefs specials. When it came to paying our bill, he simply gave us our check. Did not say “have a great night” “thank you for dining”. Our service was absolutely terrible. Not only was this our wedding anniversary dinner, but our first date since having our son (7wks). It was a much needed date night. Unfortunately I feel like we just should of stayed home given the poor service.
From the time we were seated until service of our appetizer and then the main course it took a grand total of 30 minutes...this is not a restaurant but a fast food operation. In summary : a waste of money and an overall most disappointing experience!
Fast attentive service and wonderful food.
Excellent food and service. The ambience was fantastic as well. Beautiful scenery and place.
Taste of food was average and price high. Not a good value in my opinion.
Only if you want the view... Excelente service, but regular food for the price you pay.
Great place to watch the fireworks
It was very good overall, although my halibut tasted more like a swordfish. It was over cooked at first, so I was given a second one, which was much better.
You can’t beat the ambiance for a nicer dinner on Navy Pier.
Loved the restaurant but didn’t enjoy the struggle of walking through thousands of people to get to it at the end of the pier.
Enjoyable lunch. My husband I split our meal because it was large portions. The crab/shrimp gazpacho was meaty and delicious. The fish and chips were not heavy. Service was good and nice views of the water.
Ordered a seafood combo and the food was over cooked so much it was horrible. Lobster was like shoe leather and shrimp were hard as a rock. We returned the combo and ordered crab legs and they were good.
We’re seated by the window. What a treat! The food was excellent, as were the drinks. Wait staff was also good, attentive without being intrusive.
Everything was except except one soft shell crab was over cooked. The other crab was perfect.
Fine food, good service and great views on a perfect summer evening. We can always count on Riva!
I ordered the seafood salad as a main course, with no appetizer, and felt it should have been larger.
The ambiance overlooking the Harbor and Chicago skyline is great. The food and service are excellent. Always a treat.
Great food and great scenery!
Dinner for two - one prix fixe, one regular menu. Both of our caesar salads were great. Filet was “excellent, the best I’ve ever had,” said my husband. He enjoyed the asparagus and fingerling potatoes as well. LOVED the white chocolate creme brûlée. My crab cakes (two jumbo) were tepid, as were the mashed potatoes. Tasted good, but not hot enough. Lemon sorbet was delicious. Coffee, too.
Service was excellent, they take pride in making sure your pleased
What a great location and terrific restaurant!! I love this place. Pricey, but worth it.
Took advantage of the outing to see The amazing Six show at the Shakespeare Theatre and enjoy the theatre discount at Rivas. The crab cake was the best I have ever had and I have had more than my share. The Dover Sole was outstanding. The Ciopino was not only delicious but an amazing presentation highlighted with the lobster. Truly a great meal.
Great service, beautiful view, and everything I ate from the clam chowder soup to the soft shell crab and even the Brussels sprouts was great! I will definitely be back!
A special place for a delicious meal and a great view of Navy Pier.
Everything great. So fresh.
We had reservations for 5 two adults and three kids a month in advance for 9pm on July 4th and were promised a window table to watch the fireworks at Navy Pier the day before our reservation by the restaurant who called to reconfirm our reservation. We arrived at 8:30 to check in and did not get seated until 10pm, which is totally unacceptable. We did not drive 10 hours to Chicago make reservations a month in advance at a high end restaurant to be lied to and mislead in to thinking they would take care of us. We watched them seat 2,3,4 tops throughout this time and they continued to ignore our requests to sit us at a 4 top because we had 3 kids so not much room was needed. We felt discriminated against and had no other dining option since the pier was packed and locked down until after the fireworks ended around 9:50. Needless to say the ridiculously long wait, lies and overpriced seafood made for a miserable July 4th experience for our family. Thanks for the crappy memories RIVA.
Great time as always. Riva knows how to throw a party!!!!
Wonderful evening to spend with someone you care deeply about!
We had dinner at Rivas to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had a wonderful dinner!
Great views, clean and open. Great selection of food have been here several times. Request window table for views of Lake Michigan and Chicago skyline
Beautiful location, wonderful service, delightful food
Being from Chicago, I really didn't want to try such a "tourist" destination as Riva. But, my wife and I wanted to watch the fireworks at Navy Pier so we took a chance on it. I was a little disappointed in the quality of the food and the service. As for the quality, my wife had a skirt steak that was very good. It was done exactly as you should have skirt steak done and with the blue cheese topping it was close to being perfect. My King Salmon however, was uninspiring. It needed some additional flavor as it was rather boring and a tad dry.
The service started out ok, but a group of 8 came in after we had our salads and sat at the table next to ours. That's when the wait staff forgot that we existed. The group of 8 took up a lot of her time and we were neglected for about 10-15 minutes, waiting for the dessert menu. All in all, not a great evening out and based on our experience, I could not recommend Riva.
The room was very warm. So that had An immediate negative feel. Dinner salad $14. And a fish entrees $40+. I think it was over priced! The crab was flavorless. My kale and apple salad tasted like it was over refrigerated! The $18 shrimp cocktail had 3 shrimp that looked like they were anorexic! I would choose a fast food restaurant choice on the pier over Riva! I maybe should have ordered the $18 burger? What is their specialty?
We had a fabulous dinner at Riva on a Sunday evening in late June. Our server, Blanca, was attentive and gave great recommendations. My husband truly savored the Ciopinno saying it had an “explosion of flavor”. I enjoyed the Chilean Seabass cooked to my request - which was more on the well done side. All-around a fabulous meal and excellent service and you can’t beat the view of Chicago!
We decided to sit outside because it was a beautiful evening . But the menu was limited & we couldn’t get the grilled fish that we wanted . But our waiter was excellent!
And the fireworks were awesome .
The hostess was very rude and are server did not seems to really care about our table. The food and drinks were outstanding and very reasonably priced.
The server was not at her best. She left us sitting for a long time and then was very terse when she finally took our order. We actually had to ask another server to go and get her for us.
Great food and very ample portions! My only small complaint is the bustle of the place. Everything seemed a little rushed.
