We have embarked on a journey to promote ethical eating by using the freshest in local sustainable and organic produce. It is our dream to leave as light an environmental footprint as possible.
Our family’s secret recipes, skills and techniques have been passed down to us. We have learned that above all, the sourcing of good produce, simplicity in presentation and preparation with the slowness of good omen should always be the core of our approach.
Set within a designer space reminiscent of French Colonial Vietnam, Red Lantern on Riley offers all the favourites of the original Red Lantern, with a greater focus on shared dishes. Mixed with the nostalgia of Indochine and the personal quirkiness of the Nguyen family, Red Lantern on Riley is an experience to share with your friends and family.
Dinner: Tuesday to Sunday 6:00pm - late
There is a Wilson Parking garage located less than 50 metres from the restaurant at 70 Riley Street, Darlinghurst.
Food portion is very great for this kind of restaurant. We didn't walk out hungry. Service is absolutely amazing.
The service was fast and efficient and quite friendly. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful when deciding what to order.
The food and drinks were of an exceptional quality and taste.
Wheelchair access into the restaurant is via a very steep portable ramp only, however staff are willing to assist.
Restaurant atmosphere was too dark and "broody" for my liking. I would have rather had much more light!
Overall it was a great experience, other than several loud groups of diners that surrounded me and spoiled my evening with their rowdy laughter and highly unnecessary disturbance of other diners!
Fabulous tasting menu with wines to match
Always a fabulous dining experience
Beautiful food and excellent staff.
I know I’m going to have a great time right from the moment I arrived. I dined with a work colleague (on my recommendation) and the experience and food did not disappoint. The attention to detail and service level is exceptional and the food is absolutley divine. Thank you for making me feel like I was valued and welcomed in your lovely restaurant.
Well it could’ve been exceptionally special but sadly it wasn’t. All I can say is luckily the food was nice but not worth the dollar u pay for it..
Absolutely love bringing friends and family here for their first time. We've been here quite a few times and always leave very happy, stuffed fill with beautifully tasting food and very happy company as everyone always loves it. Never disappointed and woyld always highly recommend to everyone.
The service was exceptional from start to finish. All the food was exceptional and could be faulted. We will definitely be back as there are so many other things on the menu we have to try. We will recommend it to all our family and friends
It was a wonderful experience food great staff welcoming and helpful with menu. Value for money.... try the crispy pork amazing 😉
Excellent flavourful food. Light and delicious
I love dinner at The Red Lantern, the food is exceptional, fresh, vibrant, simple yet full of complex flavours. The restaurant is perfect for the solo diner, couples or groups. The atmosphere is relaxed and the wait staff professional and dedicated.
The food at Red Lantern was delicious as always. The staff are so welcoming and friendly.Still my favourite restaurant in Sydney.Thank you to the team.
Great food, friendly staff, definitely will be back!
Food is always first class as are the staff. Lorraine always welcomes us beautifully and so the evening continues .
Outstanding service, ambience and food make this a regular restaurant choice for us. We travel up from Wollongong to enjoy the outstanding experience that never falters.
Wonderful service and food was sensational. Thank you for making our wedding anniversary such a memorable occasion.
We had the tasting menu which provided a fantastic variety of food selections and we tried food that we would normally wouldn't order.
The service was fantastic even though it was a busy Saturday night.
Thank you again to the team at Red Lantern for a wonderful evening. You definitely impressed our guest.
Wonderful experience for my husband's birthday.
The service at Red Lantern is second to non, exceptional food quality that takes you back to Vietnam. For those who want to try a bit of everything I recommend the set menus on offer accompanied with wine. Will be back!
Excellent as usual and you can park 50 m away for $8 all night.
Food was amazing except 1 dish . A bit salty.
Visited on a recent trip to Sydney. Very conveniently located, an easy walk from Darling Harbour with lots of bars with Happy Hour along the way. We had a lovely meal with the best rice paper rolls we have ever eaten. The menu had many options. The incorrect main meal was delivered to our table, which was quickly rectified. They took away most of the incorrect meal and probably threw it in the bin (I hate waste) rather than leave it to be eaten. Enjoyable but nothing to rave about.
Delicious night out
Celebrating my wedding anniversary there,we had a great dinner.we did a $89 dollars degustation. The food was very good n worth for the value. In fact there are other dishes in their al Carter menu we would like to try so we will definitely return to this restaurant.
Only comment is the pickled octopus was a bit too sour that took away the flavour of the octopus.
Always a great experience and never disappointed
Red Lantern serves great Vietnamese cuisine and Chef Mark Jensen goes out of his way to engage with guests.
I took my wife and we sat outside, this was our request and the staff were helpful. The wait staff were very good. we had the dearer of the banquets. A lot of food , some dishes very good and some that did not grab us. The deserts were excellent. Our anniversary was acknowledged with some sparkling wine . Probably should of gone al a carte. Would be good to see a revamp with better value price points and a new opening. its up to red lantern if they want to move ahead or change at all.
Food good but not that great had better elsewhere. Overpriced for what it was. Too loud and aircon not working sufficiently.
Great food, drinks and atmosphere. I had been to Red Lantern a few times before and took 2 colleagues and they loved it!
Exceptional food and service.
We travelled from Melbourne to go to this restaurant for my wife's birthday. We had the Saigon tasting menu with matching wines. We were not disappointed. We have been a fan of Luke for a long time.
great food, good variety and exceptional service .
The place has a nice vibe and feel
Wonderful service, great food.
Everything about the dining experience at Red Lantern is fantastic! The staff are friendly, professional and super knowledgeable. The food is next level and great value for money. This is the third time I’ve flown to Sydney over the last couple of years just to get my Red Lantern fix!!
Very friendly and knowledgeable waitress; the dishes were not as tasty as what I experienced when I visited Red Lantern the first time on Crown Street.
We came for a birthday lunch and were delighted by the fabulous fresh tastes. As first timers the lunch tasting menu provided a star studded introduction. Favorites were the pork and green papaya salad, smoked spatchcock, duck green curry and the coconut creme caramel. The service was excellent, and we were allowed to linger as long as we liked over all the lovely flavours
I would never visit Sydney without going to Red Lantern. These folk seriously care about their food and craft. Bold interpretations of Vietnamese classics. A must for me.
We had a lovely dinner at Red Lantern to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was our fourth time there, and it was as delicious as ever! The banquet menu was a great way to sample lots of different dishes, the service was friendly without being overwhelming, and the ambience was inviting.
Again exceptional in all respects
Food never ceases to amaze
Service as always wonderful
Left feeling we had just been extremely spoilt by our family
