Barbecue
“Great meat comes from farmers who care about their animals.
BBQ tastes better when shared with friends and family.
Loving what you do shines through.” — Red Gum BBQ's Guiding Principles
BBQ to Southerners is not simply food but a way of life. It's the food you grew up on, the food you share with friends over a beer and a warm night and the food your family heatedly debate over who does it best. In moving to Australia, we were thrilled to find Melburnians, and in turn, Peninsula folk, feel just as passionately about their food. The marrying of these two homes was the concept for Red Gum. Using traditional methods of cooking Southern BBQ at low heat over many hours, Pit Master Martin uses native woods to flavour the meat. Martin’s passion for food, creating an authentic & high quality product has translated into amazing BBQ. Come and enjoy the smoke with us!

Great food in a rustic atmosphere. In the colder weather the food doesn't stay hot for very long which was disappointing. Probably a better experience in the summer. Super busy on a Sunday.

The food was amazing the only dish I had that I was not impressed with was the Mac and cheese (that said there are many other sides to choose from which I will when I visit next) everything else was perfect, the service friendly and prompt and the food was on the table in short order.

Don’t let the fact that it’s “out the back of a servo” put you off. Red Gum BBQ has FANTASTIC food with an amazing ambience. They have made beautiful use of the old truck shop they’re based at, have been back dozens of times and will continue to return for a long time.

Loved this place. Food was awesome and we'll worth it but drinks are a little steep. Has place for the kids to run around. Recommend the brisket! We will be back!

Food was really good service was great until no one came back for our food order .. waited 40 minutes and had to go up to the bar just to be told it's table service.. if it wasn't for the food being perfect our night would have been a 0 out of 10

Great southern US bbq style food. The beef brisket & pulled pork are outstanding, as is The broccoli salad. The chicken was a tad dry & some spirits would be handy but we definitely love the food & will be back again & again.

We booked late afternoon through a booking App. So did not realise the kitchen closed at 4 pm on Sunday.
Regardless of this we arrived and told to order ‘now’ as this was the case.
Ok fair enough. But in all honesty we were treated as a great imposition. Staff were somewhat surly.
We ate and ran. The food was fine. The music LOUD.
Disappointing but we will try again...

Lovely food. Very expensive. Large open plan venue, music loud, hard to have a good conversation with the people you are dining with. Overhead heating however still very cold in there.
We would recommend it if you have money to burn - not cheap. But food was good.

We visited Red Gum with overseas guests and we all had a great time. The atmosphere is great, comfortable and relaxing. The staff super friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. We ordered a selection of meats and sides to share and all agreed each dish was worth it, all super tasty.

Everything was great! My only observation is that it was kinda cold inside, so the meat turned cold pretty quick. But it was absolutely delicious!

This is my second visit to this restaurant and unfortunately I don't think I will be returning. The parking is terrible. If there are cars parked in your way to enable a 3 point turn, you have to reverse back to the front and park over the other side of the road. In respect to the dinnerware, I feel the bar needs to be raised here. The water glasses/cups were dirty and need to be thrown in the bin. All the glasses on our table were in the same state - dirty. The food is good but very expensive. 4 slices of brisket for $40.00 is a little over the top at $10.00 per slice. The alcohol prices are just outrageous with wine between $45-$65.00 per bottle or more. We were in a large group of 12 and paying at the end was a shambles as another bottle of wine and coke was added to the overall bill which we never ordered or received. We ordered the cheaper wine and the dearer bottle was delivered to us with no explanation until we were half way through the bottle. I raised this with the waitress. We all had to calculate between ourselves as to how much we had spent with our own calculator and then pay this. May be you should follow another Mornington Peninsula eatery where you order your food at your table and they bring mobile EFTpos machines to pay individually and pay for your drinks individually at the bar.

Had a great time, Ribs were fantastic, but not much meat, but that's what ribs are about. the brisket was just so juicy & tender could have eaten it all day, we loved the sauces, but didn't brave the hot one. Staff were efficient, but still the right kind of relaxed-friendliness that this Red Gum suited. It appeared to be very kid friendly, with a big play area and lots of families with little kids all playing happily, and plenty of high chairs to go around. Only disappointment was we must have been seated under the speakers as it was very loud and had trouble hearing each other during some songs, but we will be back

The food was amazing, although size of sides could have been more generous. I felt the cost of the meats was justifiable but that the the sides either needed to be bigger or the price reduced. Our meal for 4 was over $250.
The venue was beautiful and the concept of shared food and open dining was great.

Saw this place on facebook and thought it sounded good. Booked in for Saturday lunch on our way to a week down at Mornington Peninsula. Almost drove past it as its hidden away but once we walked in it was wow. The staff were friendly and explained how it all worked and how big the meals were. We shared the pork ribs and chilli cheese fries. Both were amazing. Will definitely be back.

The food is overpriced - I spent $60 on the brisket, 2 serves of mac & cheese, 1 serve of fries and ribs. 4 ribs arrived, about 8 slices of meat. I had 4 in the party. overall, not impressed.

Unfortunately didn't lead up to the hype it's listed as $$ of 5 meaning budget friendly. Meals were like 66$ for 2 small racks (pork only) no beef and 2 sides another $20 making it $ 86 for one person who's hungry to eat.
All specials were sold out like all of them.

Inside your pretty much in a old warehouse had to share a table with others even though we booked weeks ago. Parking is almost non existent tight car spots that Utes can't fit.

Meal variety very poor and serving sizes are tiny. I saw a plate with 32$ ribs about 6 and chips costing about $40 being served next to us. That's not value it's a rip off.

We ended up leaving go elsewhere ppl you can get fine dining in the area for less and we did.
